I really enjoy your insights. As much as I love watching reaction channels, I rarely stay for reactors' after-episode processing, but I enjoy yours. Also, your skin is skinnin, and the dimples are dimplin. Love to see it! :D
I have been a fan of the Fallout games ever since the 1st one came out in '97. I love seeing all the interest that the show has generated in the franchise. And can't wait for season 2!
I wish I knew about Fallout back then but I hopped aboard with Fallout 3, and yes I can't wait for Season 2 either! I can't believe how well they honored the games while still making their own thing and broadening the canon!
really loving the reactions. you're asking all the right questions and again, they will all be answered. can't give hints coz spoilers. safe to say tho' that the NCR (New Cailfornia Republic) features heavily in Fallout, F2 and Fallout New Vegas. the Brotherhood of Steel hail from California, having been formed at the fictional Mariposa military base soon after the great war and therefore predating the NCR. and yes - most vaults had unique societies depending on the whims of the overseer or their instructions from Vault Tec.
I think I've never felt as connected with someone reacting as I do with you. You pick things up so fast, you actively try to solve the puzzle and you seem so invested in it, this is by far the best reaction content I've seen. Really glad I found you !
Good analysis. Actually you have seen kids in the vault, in episode one Lucy is teaching a classroom of children. I doubt everyone in the vault was at lucys wedding and the children were somewhere else. Also for some reason they don't show more people in the series, each vault could have between 200 and a thousand dwellers. (a few had much less). The lab is a vault-tec building. Steph is not an overseer, she may just be in the on deck circle. IMO the brotherhood were at Shady Sands because someone dropped a nuke. Shady Sands was started by vault dwellers from vault 15.
[10:40] Left out of your edit, one of the most impactful statements of the series: Maximus - "It's the same thing that _always_ happens. Everyone wants to save the world they just...they disagree on how." Personally, I would disagree with Maximus. Everybody Wants To _RULE_ The World. (nice Tears For Fears song, btw.) But not everyone wants to save it. (See any headline right now.) On a completely different note, remember from Episode 1: The cleric asked Maximus why he joined the Brotherhood. He said he wanted to hurt the people who hurt him. Now Lucy has discovered, accompanied by Maximus, that there was a thriving city on the surface, it was nuked, and that destroyed Maximus's childhood. Someone put him in a fridge, and saved his life. When he got out of the fridge, he saw a Knight of the Brotherhood. That set him on this path. And the only people we've seen who were actually good to Maximus, are Dane, and now Lucy. A lot of reactors like to 💩 on Maximus. This is why I don't.
In the eyes of the brotherhood AND Teddy, Max IS guilty. He is alive and his Lord is dead. They ask no questions. It was his sacred duty to protect Titus with his live and he failed. They will hang him either way.Teddy know this and do not want to be a part of this. Max lied to Lucy, because he had no idea of her! He has seen her for 3 seconds. He trusted Teddy and it was wrong. Why should he trust a person who he have just seen for 3 seconds? He has no idea who she is
Shady Sands goes all the way back to the original Fallout game. The tiny primitive settlement is the first place you find after leaving Vault 13. The events of Fallout 2 happen years later, when Shady Sands has expanded into a real city with clean streets and police officers. You don't see Shady Sands in Fallout New Vegas, but they do mention it. It is the capital of the New California Republic, which is a major faction in FO 2 and New Vegas.
So much to geek out on here, but I won't drop spoilers... just game lore. The NCR is a major faction in Fallout: New Vegas. They refer to Shady Sands as if it's still exists. The TV series takes place shortly after the events of New Vegas... and as we can see, Shady Sands is now a big hole in the ground. That's really all we should say right now. Keep watching!!!
I didn't think about it before you said it but this show is centered on The Ghoul, Lucy and Maximus, but Norm does deserve his own title card. He's on his own adventure and I think is the only other character whose perspective we see.
You will learn more about "roles" of Vaults further down the season. As for Game lore (no TV show spoilers): Shady Sands as said was formed way back over 100yrs ago. Currently it is late 2296 and 2297. First bombs dropped october 23rd 2077. Brotherhood is pre first bombs (they were US Army, became BoS after). Also, the Enclave is only briefly mentioned (ON PURPOSE), while being, let's just say, way more than brief. Vault Tec, as seen in the show already is pre nukes corporation. So, let the games begin. Ad Victoriam!
Destroying Shady Sands was the most controversial decision the showrunners made, it cause some fans to become vocally upset since the show shares the same continuity and canon as the games. Shady Sands is typically the first settlement you encounter in the original P.C Game, for some background it was founded by the residents of vault 15 using construction equipment and blue prints left by vault-Tec. The town grew and formed a trade network with other settlements, the need for mutual protection and cooperation with other communities is what lead the first mayor and former overseer Aradesh to call a summit of delegates to form what became the New California Republic. Aradesh’s daughter Tandi became the 2nd and longest serving president of the NCR, her administration expanded the republic to encompass most of pre-war California and parts of northern Nevada. The NCR even had its own gold backed currency for decades until switching to fiat, the merchants in the hub were reluctant to abandon their resource backed bottle caps and disparagingly called the New California Dollar toilet paper due to high inflation.
They never specifically hang a lamp on how 32 was cleaned up so quickly, but after the finale you'll think back like, "Ooooh..." And regarding game lore, yes - some Vaults having special focus is certainly a thing. This series does a really excellent job of dropping us in a location that the games have never explored, with characters we've never met, but still managing to absolutely nail the game tones and themes while pulling in a number of the many factions we've interacted with. There are still many that don't get folded in here, and you've seen all the name dropping and reveal they give for instance on the Enclave already, but that faction was pretty sparse in the games. They're kind of like an R&D branch of the old US government that spun off and kept going. How the brotherhood of Steel is depicted is a little different than game history, but still in keeping with their messy foolishness.
Shady Sands was in the first two Fallout games (2161 and 2241). The NCR was founded in 2189. Shady Sands became the capital of the NCR in 2198. We knew from a small lore drop in Fallout: New Vegas (2281) that the NCR had changed its capital city from Shady Sands to somewhere else, prior to that game. This show happens in 2296. I imagine that the bomb that destroyed the city dropped somewhere between 15 to 25 years prior (judging by Maximus's apparent age then and now). So I guess we now know why they changed their capital... 😅
The people that populated Shady Sands were just regular survivors of the initial blasts living on the surface. People in the vaults were just in the vault still....waiting until they felt things were safe enough to go out to the surface to repopulate. Or a random few that came out sporadically for some reason, like with Lucy. That's how the video games go...something happens in the vault and one soul vault dweller escapes into the wasteland.
Still enjoying your reactions to this series, Miss Aisha Simone. You're still asking really good questions, and noticing small things (like the vault logo).
You've collected lots of pieces of the puzzle, but not the pieces you need just yet. It's sort of like you're attempting to solve it without some really key pieces, so you're placing two pieces together that LOOK like they fit but don't actually fit together. I must say, 😅 It's fun watching you "gather" the pieces, though. Keep sleuthing, Detective Simone! You'll get there!
I need more back story from the Ghoul! I feel his wife working for/with Vault Tech and whatever falling out they had has something to do with it. We’ve got 3 more episodes left and I feel there’s SO much I’m missing 😅
Hey! Started watching your stuff with the Atla vs Arcane video, loved your voice. Regarding fallout, AFTER you're done with this series,I recommend watching "Every Vault in the Fallout Series Explained", it's a fun ride into the game lore. NOT now!!! ...as may spoil your experience of this show.

The way Maximus did Thaddeus makes me have a very hard time liking him, regardless of where his arc takes him. If he were going to tell him, he should have told him before burning a big ass T in his back and then immediately going for the kill.
Yeah, when it comes to Maximus having to defend himself/plead his case, he’s TERRIBLE with words. If I were Thaddeus I would’ve thought something fishy went down too, just by how he said it 😅

I heard they got a lot of flack for decimating it in the series. Is it canonically still intact in the games?

People who were in Shady Sands were not exactly regular survivors. They are descents of Vault 15 who left their vault nearly a hundred years ago.

It did a hell of a lot more than decimate Shady Sands. It was straight up obliterated.
