Great info, I had always been of the impression that the change to V8 had been a desperation move, so it is interesting to hear that it was already in the planning stages and ran into unfortunate times. Enjoying the channel!
I watched a TR8 run in the SCCA back in the 1980's. Mountjoy's Speed & Autobody shop @ Summit Point Raceway. It was fast, handled well, blew away the competition until they outlawed it- cause he always won with it.
SORRY, but THIS Triumph WASN'T designed by Michelotti, who designed all the successful Triumphs of the 60's and 70's. THIS car was designed by Harris Mann, who designed the decidedly more attractive wedge, the PRINCESS of the 70's
Around the time I was first getting my drivers license, I wanted to buy something with a little flair. A friends mother had a beautiful TR6. She still has it in immaculate condition. Seeing ads for TR7's was intriguing but it's reputation for reliability was concerning and I've never been a wrencher. So much potential though.
NEVER EVER called the English Corvette. PLUS TVR? never heard of them have you ? I had a TVR Tasmin. V8 wedge shape. much much better than a Triumph TR8. plus Jaguar Aston Martin Bentley Mcclaren …..what you mean by the LAST GREAT 🇬🇧sport car !
From the UK - I am of a certain age and well remember this car, tragically another imperfect product from British Leyland, poorly designed, crudely manufactured and thankfully quickly self destructed and disappeared from UK roads. As usual with BL cars of that period, most TR7's plagued dealerships with warranty claims and became unpopular with their built in unreliability. One of the worst cars ever made in the UK.
I've never heard any Brit say 'drophead'. We call convertibles convertibles. You might find a fossil calling them a cabriolet, doncha know, but I've never actually witnessed it happening.
I hated its looks the last of the TR sports car for me was the TR6 I prefer even the TR3 to the TR7-8 but TR4 with without IRS Independent Real suspension to the TR6 I Loved them
Gordon Murray will be happy to read neither the F1 McLaren nor his GMA sports cars are NO "Great British Sports Car !" Some youtube uploaders seem to have developped a new competition among themselves: who can come up with the most frivolous and misleading title.
NObody called it the British Corvette. I worked for a BL store and drove dozens of these, I loved them.
I am neither a TR7, nor a TR8 fan. However, your video was excellent and enjoyable to watch. Thank you.

I rebuilt a TR7 with a v8 for rallying it was the best car I enjoyed. All sideways
would've been nice with a ford 302 in it

Though he did come up with an optional design but they went with Mann's.
And the Allegro, though that changed a lot before production/
My dad had one and I got to drive it quite a bit, lovely little sports car. I own a TR6, but I still

Ah... easy done. Here's the moment our narrator confuses a TR8 with an elephant. 3:21
The TR7 V8 is a really fun car to drive.

Britain didnt get any but they ran a FACTORY RALLY TEAM in the WRC...
Back at that time most Brits didn’t care much about American cars. They were more interested in sports cars from Japan…
0:21 Is that a Triumph Stag in Magenta going through the traffic?
No.
The Stag has a distinctive chrome B pillar.
I think it's a Fiat 124 Spider.

🏅
The best thing about the car was the engine. The awful bumpers made what could have been a pretty car an ugly one.
I hate AI voiceover
GREAT sports car? 😂🤣😂🤣😂😂
TR7 was a dog, so put a v8 in!
Pertamax
TR7 ugly then ugly now 😂
Leyland BMC Jaguar range rover all unreliable CRAP
Waste of time you don't know what your talking about
