  • In this video, I show you one method of canning pinto beans which is to waterbath them for 3 hours with some salt pork and salt.
    So that the canning Karens stay off my back, here is the disclaimer.
    It is not recommended that you waterbath anything except pickles and jellies in America. The rest of the world knows better. Do what you want in your kitchen.

    Very interesting. My Grammy did her beans that way too. Her parents were from Europe , that's how they did them . Thank you.

    Is it possible to blend up the beans into a Mexican refried bean paste and then waterbath for 3 hrs or would that not work?

    • @TexasHomesteaders
      @TexasHomesteaders  5 месяцев назад +1

      Because of the density, I find it to be better to just make my refried beans with these when we decide to have refried beans for the night. Only takes a minute to mash them.

    Can you water bath beans and rice together? If not, could you make rice and bean soup and then water bath the soup?

    • @TexasHomesteaders
      @TexasHomesteaders  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yes you can but rice tends to disintegrate when canned. Brown rice holds up better.

      @@TexasHomesteaders Good advice. I did beans and brown rice with some garlic and sun-dried tomato. They sealed just fine in WB.

      If you feel they didn't seal, reprocess them. Wipe your rims well with water or vinegar.
