      Thanks Glenn. I'm just working about double the normal time for about half the normal pay trying to get our old spot back in the mill after the 3 year lay off.

    Nicely done. Interesting how some systems use ATF as the fluid, while some others (in the past) wanted 10W40 oil. Either can be used as a hydraulic fluid, they just have different properties and viscosities. But heaven help you if you try mixing the 2 together at the same time! They sure don't play nicely together. Much like the difference between the old Dexron ATF and Type-F ATF, they had different properties for friction and slippage with the clutches and bands in the different transmissions.
    As another viewer commented before me, congrats on hitting 10,000 subscribers.

    Thanks for another one. Even though I'll probably never work on a big truck, there's always useful information that applies to other things.

      I try to make them as applicable as I can. Thanks for watching.

    Twenty years on the same fluid is pretty respectable but that reservoir not rotting out before now is even more respectable )

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  6 лет назад +1

      no reason for the oil to go bad as long as it doesn't get contaminated with something. I never changed the rear end oil either.

      Usually something goes bad in that amount of time though, you owning it for that long & being the only driver & mechanic greatly extends it's life!

    Good video Gordon. I find that zip ties come in handy to temporarily retain and organize things, and are low profile so they stay out of your way when you're working, or turning bolts/ nuts. It sure beats struggling or losing items.

      Anytime Gordon. I’ve been driving 8 years now and the last 3 years as a owner operator. I haul LTL and deliver guns safes with a liftgate trailer. I try to do all of my own work in my shop and thankfully I’m home every 7-10 days. I was a auto mechanic in my fathers shop until he retired. You my friend provide invaluable information and insight to some of us guys that don’t have the experience with big rigs like you do.

    Great video, glad you had another small project to do, to help the rest of US out with a how to. Is there a filter inside the reservoir?

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  6 лет назад

      I don't know if it has a filter, I doubt it. I could open it up some day if I could afford the time.

    • @lonnieblackwell9215
      @lonnieblackwell9215 6 лет назад +1

      yes they do have a filter inside
      I always use yhe same oil as what I have in my engine that way if a seal goes out of ur power steering pump it wont matter.

    I swear our trucks are synced up. When something needs replaced you've done a video on it in the last month or two. Got a 95 w900 with a 12.7 in it

      It's getting old and needs regular repairs, it's good to know the videos are helping people fix their old trucks. I also do videos on small engine machines, cars, house or anything I need to fix. Thanks for watching.

    Hello sir. My pump I guess is making noise when turning left slowly. It happened after I added 1 ounce of additive to the reservoir. Do you think I could change oil and it would be ok?

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  3 года назад +1

      I doubt 1 ounce would hurt anything but you can try changing the oil.

    What’s the best oil for that power steering reservoir

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  2 года назад

      When in doubt call your dealer for your model of truck. You should be able to use regular power steering fluid or ATF ( automatic transmission fluid) if you live on a farm, regular hydraulic fluid should be good. Whatever you use it might be a good idea to drain and flush the system with whatever oil you decide to use.

      @@57bagre thank you very much it’s a 12.7 2002 freightliner century been using regular power steering oil but I noticed it’s been kind of hard turning the wheel
