Been a fan of Maynard since early 90s and honestly I've been into Puscifer more than his other projects atm. But that being said "Eat the Elephant" is by far my favorite APC album.
I absolutely LOVE this song! I was like 20 when this came out. Im 44 now lol. I love A Perfect Circle and of course Tool. I mean who doesn't love Maynard's voice ❤
Thanks mate. Beautiful song with a seemingly darker edge…well, it is Maynard after all (not undermining the importance of Billy Howerdell to the band). Next for APC, I recommend Blue or The Outsider from The Thirteenth Step. 👍🏼
It's both about a very specific feeling but written in a way it can mean multiple things. I took care of my father as he died of brain cancer and I can definitely relate. I know the horrors Maynard experienced with his mother, and that definitely tracks. And at the same time you can see how this could apply to a person who appears beautiful and vibrant, some person you're dating or attracted to, and afterwards you realize....there's really nothing else there. There is no you there. Just....this. And unfortunately I've experienced that as well. A beautiful person seemingly content to be a stereotype and perfectly preventable tragedy.
Heard this for the first time in April, 2001. My lifelong buddy from preschool, we were 18 years old on our way to Austin, Tx for a UIL event. Look it up. Anyway, my bro asked if I had heard of this band. Nope, I said. Then, he handed me his shitty Walkman CD player with original goofy ass garbage headphones…we all had garbage shitty ass gear. Putting those busted ass headphones on…rang through 3 Libras. God damn! ❤❤❤ So great!!
It’s a deeply moving, and sad recollection of one’s love, wanting those eyes of attention. Only to find rejection🔥A wounded heart cannot love. You’re not seen. You’re reflecting
APC's a great band !!! especialy their first 2 LPs , check out "the noose" , "the outsider", "magdalena" and most of all "weak and powerless" ( love that one )
One could argue this is the title track. The album is Mer De Noms (sea of names) and the lyric “threw you the obvious and you flew with it on your back a name in your recollection down among a million same” (sea of names) Clever at least.
3 Libras is about 4 (yes 4) family members of the band who were going through trying times and were not accepting the help or advice the band members were giving them. They all happened to be Libras, and as Maynard said, "he left it up to those 4 people to figure out which 3 this song was about." If you want to stay with their first album (Mer De Noms), may I suggest going with "Orestes" next, as it has just as deep a meaning as Judith and 3 Libras.
I recommend listening to Kublai Khan TX's Theory of Mind or The Hammer, they're criminally an underrated band. I know you'll love them chops brother 🤘🏻
Oddly enough this songs makes me think of my mother. You’re the only other person I’ve heard equate it to a mother figure and not a lover. But it’s fitting in my case and knowing Maynard’s relationship with his mother it’s entirely possible.
I think a perfect song to react to next would be Tool's Rosetta Stoned. It really shows the range that Maynard has compared to this song. I wouldn't normally suggest reacting the first time with lyrics for Tool, but for this song I do because it can be hard to understand him and he's telling an amazing story
My interpretation: Maynard is talking to his relationship partner who is jaded and scared. She was hurt in the past so she puts up a wall. Maynard goes so far as to make himself *obvious*ly vulnerable for her, and she does not respond in kind. Proving he needs to move on and not be a simp.
@@Lsone350source? I thought his mother, Judith Marie, was in a partially paralyzed from an aneurysm (brain damage) since his childhood. From “Jimmy” we can see that she was a beacon for him. Wings for Marie says she believed in him. With all that being said I find it hard to believe that Maynard petulantly dismisses her lack of cognition as a personal offense. Would you get upset if you threw to obvious to someone in a coma? And to land on “apparently nothing” contradicts his devotion to her.
@@TraditionalHippie maybe I'm wrong but my thought was his mother hospitalized towards the end wasnt cognisant enough to recognize him and she's the fallen angel, a tragedy, but he still sees her as her
@sevismo I must say, my friend and brother, with your humility, your honesty and your passion you will surely inspire 15 times more subscribers. But if you listen to another song than the one I suggested to you, I'll seal your private output channel, if you know what I mean 😉😂
I'm fairly sure this is about his ex-wife, which he has another song on the same album titled by her name: 'Brena'. She was a big pill popper (as is described in a third song on this album about her called 'Sleeping Beauty'); not that I'm judging I'm a recovering addict myself and was in my depths of addiction for over 20 years, but it caused major issues in their marriage. So at least 3 songs on this album are about his ex-wife.
Maybe the 3 libras, represents 3 others (mom exs, others that held his heart ect) He is an Aries. Its opposition is Libra in astrology. But idk. Just adding subjectivity
The meaning? He was in the military 🪖 so it could be that and it could be about his mother when I went to go see Ozzy I want to say in the late 90's that he opened for ozzy and he had his mother there on the stage so it could be about both his mother or war and no one seen him.
Maynard tends to write about actual people. He's said he was having trouble with three people and they were all Libras. Hence, the song. Don't make it harder than it has to be.
Lmao tf? Apc has a ton of great songs: the hollow, magdalena, breña, thinking of you, sleeping beauty, the package, weak and powerless, the noose, blue, the outsider, pet, gravity, disillusioned, the contrarian, by and down the river, feathers... Also they are incredible live just like tool.
@Justmint939 Yeah, no. As I already stated, he's pretty much done now. I'll listen to The Outsiders, Judith, this song is ok and maybe one more (the name escapes. Must not be that impressionable, I guess). But I'm glad you enjoy it. 😉
I'm 54 and just discovered this done 3 days ago. It's fucking incredible and I have it on repeat right now. I can't get enough.
Look up 3 libras Jay Leno
And the Outsider
@@DJMAERZ yeah that... minus jay leno.
@@Beluga_Too Um, yeah ok. Not sure what your issue is but also don't really care either. Have a great day. 🤡

The mer de noms album is a masterpiece. It's so good. Apc has so many good songs
13th step is my favorite I think. I used to put the album on to fall asleep every night
Been a fan of Maynard since early 90s and honestly I've been into Puscifer more than his other projects atm. But that being said "Eat the Elephant" is by far my favorite APC album.
mer de noms doesn't have a bad track on it. such a good album.
Love this Song ❤✌️😎

The violins on this are beautiful. Amazing song
I love this whole album. The first one outside of TOOL, Maynard showed everyone what he’s capable of. Try THE HOLLOW or MAGDALENA off the same album.
Mer De Noms is one of my all time favorite albums…I’ve been listening to it since the day it came out and it never gets old 🙌🏻
13th step is a good album from these guys to listen to in it’s entirety.
YEP, in order, as it's a concept album!
Amazing album... Definitely a must LISTEN thru... Chop and beautiful melody's through out...

It is about being overlooked and unnoticed.
I really resonated with this song in college. It's one of the first songs to make me cry. Powerful stuff!

I love Maynard's vocals. ❤
I forgot how much I like this song.
this song gives me feels.
if you want a real treat and hear one of best live recordings ever (IMO) then check out the APC live at Red Rocks. And there are video performances..

This song is how you see it relating. Most say love song. I see it as an be in society.

Great song!!!! Great reaction!!! Keep em coming!!!
This is such a beautiful, sad testament to love and pain from it.
That whole album is fire.
It’s the story of every relationship in my life..
Great song
If you like air drums then you will love Josh Freese. He plays drums for APC up to 2012 and he smashes
Only discovered ur reactions only yesterday and they're truly genuine, thoroughly enjoying them🤘🤘🤘
Amazing 🎉🎉
6:33 " What I got out of it?...
There's a deep meaning behind this song, man".
I’ve always thought of APC as “Fisher Price’s My First Tool Album,” but in a totally good way.
Bruh I can’t stop laughing at this comment 😂
A perfect circle - the noose 🙏
Great Reaction…… ❤️
Finally!!!! I watched your reaction to jinjer and posted to check manyard out.
For the love of choppy drops from A Perfect Circle give Pet a listen
I waited all day patiently to watch this so I could be uninterrupted by my kids! 😁🤘❤️🎼
Great song and great reaction
Dynamite song from a dynamite band! Love everything Maynard touches!!
One of my favorite APC songs! Have you listened to the band ASHES DIVIDE?

Classic, great track off a real good album.
He’s speaking to someone that doesn’t return the same amount of love.
You keep doing you my friend! Get back on some Tool. Bless this immunity 🌀
Maynard could count to 10 and make it sound Amazing !

It's a great album bro!!
APC has a softer side than Tool, yet still rocks the hell out!!! 😁🤘❤️🎼

If John Cena is a Libra I think we have our hidden song meaning /sarcasm seriously though, I love this song.

Same with Cold and Ugly. Though the lyrics are more blunt there

Could be wrong but I think he put himself out there for a girl who pretty much ignored him completely.
