Greatest APC song ever. Gives me chills every time I hear it. Just like the very first time in HS in 2000. Just a beautifully put together song.
What I love about this song is it’s not a typical Rejection song where they say “screw you I’m better than you I’m out of here”. And there’s no hate in his tone.
The way he saying “oh well… Oh well” has this tone That says that he excepts this isn’t going to happen but he’s not saying goodbye, there’s something that will always be there but it will never turned into what he wants. That’s a phenomenal story to tell

Lead singer Maynard, of Tool, hooked up with Adam Jones’ guitar tech, Billy Howerdel and a couple others from well known projects to form APC. I bought their first album Mer de Noms on cassette back in '00. I still bump that album to this day (no longer on cassette tho lol). Total masterpiece, and a way different musical turn for Maynard from Tool (a very welcome one at that). Mer de Noms is their first, and imo, best album. It features this single, and their hit single "Judith". Highly recommend their catalog. The lineup has changed a little bit over the years, but Maynard and Billy are mainstays.

@James C I remember hearing he wanted a female singer, but later found out he specifically wanted Liz Fraser. Had she been available to do it and Maynard was also knocking at the door... man that's a hard choice. Luckily she was busy with Massive Attack stuff and that choice didn't need to be made. But I often wonder what she might of done with Billy's music.
Liz Fraser on an APC album would have been fucking nuts. A Perfect Circle was the best band of that era, followed after by The Mars Volta

Liz Fraser would be very interesting to hear on some of their tracks for sure. I know they (Billy) wanted to get a female singer at first, so who knows--mighta just happened if not for MJK.

He's singing about his Mother Maria, she was disabled for the last years of her life. She also had dementia. A lot of Maynard's Lyrics are about his Mother
its about being overlooked, unrequited love, admiration without reciprocation, and just the sad realisation that sometimes people are just broken people and arent capable of seeing it or you, or alternatively, they see you - but not in that way. i think just about everyone has been there - probably on both sides of the equation - it definitely always stirs up some emotions within me.
Yep, been happily with the sane great woman for more than 15 years now but when I hear this song I can mentally be transferred right back to my young self dealing with unrequited love.

They did Judith a few months back, and as soon as Maynard started singing, she recognized his voice.
You guys already did "Judith" from APC and you had high praise for it so i'm not sure how you don't remember APC. Great song though. MJK one of the greats
To be fair, they do many many many other artists and bands they're just getting introduced to. And they don't do the same artists/bands back to back most of the time so it's understandable on their part. Their appreciation and open mindedness is amazingly appreciated though, as are their reactions they share with us.

Everything turns to gold period that first album Mer de Noms, is great. I think you guys already did Judith. But there's a track on there called Magdalena that's fantastic. Also can I just say I think you really need to do queen Elton John and Axl Rose Freddie Mercury benefit doing Bohemian Rhapsody. The crowd is insane and the performance is out of this world. MAYNARD (TOOL/PUSCIFER) is a gift. What a song writer/singer. Amazing.
I love this song. In my opinion he's feeling alone and trying to get something out of someone, not even romantically. Like you're surrounded by superficiality and just need something real. I'm thinking "threw you the obvious" could be something as small as casual conversation sort of testing the waters for any sort of depth. But he's sad and disappointed that the everyone else has already lost their wonder and has been molded to fall in line with standard thoughts and responses.
Exactly... even in the video, he is surrounded by the Three Libras, screwing around in bed and he gets up and walks out leaving them to each other. They don't even seem to notice. Oh well
Maynard James Keenan (lead singer) is the master mind of Tool, A Perfect Circle and the band Puscifer. He is an absolute musical and lyrical genius. Danny Carry is considered one of the best drummers ever. Please, dig into Tool and A Perfect Circle...their music is mind bending and mind altering! This is not a normal sound for these guys, a little soft. This Band and Tool are the most polished and precise sounding bands ever!

Each song on this album is about a different person. I’m sure many comments have talked about Maynards lyrics being deep. If you check out Tool, they do something very special. There are many songs with moments that put more emphasis on the music, even when he is singing. It comes out as perfection and Tool is truly a once in a lifetime talent.

In my OPINION: I believe he is (on this song and "Magdalena) he is singing about a stripper.. he threw her the obvious (dollar bills?) While she stands naked and oblivious.. the song Magdalena ties in to this as well... A Perfect Circle is AWESOME!!

Judith is definitely about his mother, as well as a few Tool songs (like Wings for Marie) But he once stated while performing 3 Libras that "at least 2 maybe 3 of those Libras were there at the concert (6/4/2000 Phoenix, AZ) and if it sounded bitter he said it is and he was. This is great to check out Live.
I read an article with MJK when this album came out & he described APC as a band that sorta represents his feminine side & Tool is the masculine side…..I saw APC on there 1st tour,it was on the campus of GWU in DC & it was called Bender Arena but it was a gym I mean there were bleachers ….great show btw 🖤🥶

I think is another one about his mother, Judith Marie, possibly. The last 27 yrs of her life she was immobile from a stroke by aneurysm. It happened when Maynard was 11yrs old. Devastating stuff.

The song is called 3 Libras because there are 9 of them and he wanted them to struggle with wondering whether or not he was referring to them.
