    The simple answer for why High rank matches feel easier than low rank matches is: Bad players generally have worse game sense, worse positioning, and worse mechanical skills. You might say that should make it easier, but no. It feels harder because its way less predictable. They will be in weird places on the map you wouodnt expect, or theyll all be playing right alongside eachother so you cant find a pick. This goes for your teammates as well, so everybody winds up feeding eachother and team fights are impossible to win. As far as mechanical skill, low rank players tend to play worse heroes that rely on cheesy abilities to bail them out. Thats why we hear how much Junkrat, Ball, Sombra, Hog, Pharah etc are insanely strong in lower rank lobbies. Your average metal rank player isnt going to be able to handle them well, and for the ones who can, well 1 person csn only do so much when you consistently have to rely on 4 other people.
    To wrap this up, higher rank lobbies feel easier because you typically see the same comps and meta, and in general the games play out a lot more predictable, also your teammates are generally more competent.

      You can 100% carry but you need a mindest switch to stop trying to healbot bronze tanks and expect GM results and instead make it so that *you* are proactive and look for kills.
      If you're a DPS stop playing behind tank always cause bronze positioning ain't getting to GM. get off angles and pinch the team whether you're team is aware of it or not doesn't matter in lower ranks.
      If you're tank learn the fundamentals of using corners and ure abilities effectively to get kills and close the gap, play to ure tank strengths and the enemy's weaknesses.

    The first question is very real. Games are easier in lower ranks, but harder to win. The higher you go, games get more difficult, but easier to win if that makes sense. You can go 40/5 in a gold lobby and lose because your team is running around like headless chickens. And the skill difference between high gold and low plat is in fact gigantic. because there are so many players in gold, skill can vary tremendously within 1 or two sub ranks. There absolutely are plat players stuck in gold. You need to play like a diamond to get out of gold playing solo, or you group up with 1 or 2 other plat players. Once you get to higher ranks, player's skill rating are more accurate. So doing your part well can guarantee the win in a lot of games. You don't have to hard carry every game to win. Hell, I even won games in diamond that I was not playing well and got carried. Maybe it was the rank reset, buy I was fighting for my life in plat 1/diamond 5. After hitting diamond 3 it has been smooth sailing. I'm in diamond 1 now and hopefully will be back in masters by the end of the season 🙌

    • @revenantcode7633
      @revenantcode7633 2 месяца назад +2

      This is so accurate, especially since the rank reset... there's such a gigantic mishmash of skills in the metal tiers that you have Silvers getting curbstomped by Diamond/Master role challengers because ultimately the game is still prioritizing matching speed over skill accuracy.
      I think Blizzard needs to add Iron/Copper tier ranks to flesh out the sub-diamond categories and spread that concentration of players out a bit better... might not fully solve the issue, but the bottom tier (Bronze) basically only having 2 ranks to climb before they hit this massive skill gap is a bad issue to run into.

      KarQ has probably never been in gold. Gold is rank where you have a doom 1 trick warlord who could easily be Diamond if he actually played other heroes. And the Moira player who uses fade to stay in the frontline.

    • @ccricers
      @ccricers 2 месяца назад +3

      The "play like a diamond to get out of gold" is a good point that needs to be mentioned more. Most people assume that simply playing like one adjacent rank higher is enough to carry your team and win consistently to get out of your current rank, but that doesn't work well in the low metal ranks. Playing like sliver will definitely NOT be sufficient to solo carry in bronze most of the time. You need to play like gold 3 or higher. Or get lucky enough to be grouped into another player who also has a gold mindset. Also related and probably also a hot take here- there is some skill in smurfing. A smurf in a team can absolutely lose if they can't adapt to how games are played in low ranks. But if they accept that their own team will probably play erratically and have potato aim, they will know better when to make their team carry plays.

    I play a lot of QP with my friends who rank from low silver to low masters, and I concur that it feels better to play in higher ranking lobbies.
    It's not that it's any less intense - quite the contrary, the games are much faster paced and any mistakes are punished faster. The mechanical skill of the players is also higher.
    However, the teamfights actually feel organized most of the time, the players are more cooperative, the flankers or snipers are pinged immediately, the players actually wait for the respawns instead of feeding on cooldown (there are always exceptions, of course ). Even if my team loses, it feels less frustrating, because it's easier to pin-point the things that went wrong, and they are usually a honest mistake or mechanical skills diff, and you can't be mad at that.
    In the lower ELOs it's chaos. I love my silver friends, but playing with them is like herding cats. Even if they technically know the basic rules, Re: grouping up, high ground importance and target priority, they still get lost in the actual game, have a tendency to tunnel-vision and struggle to follow basic pleas, like "wait for me, you'll die without support", or "leave! teleport to Zarya behind you". Hardly anybody calls out targets, despite talking in team chat I can turn around to find half the team dead, because they picked a fight with flankers without calling them out. Plus, they get frustrated easily and can even ragequit - even if I see the game as perfectly winnable.
    It doesn't help that some of them play on... uh... questionable setups. Crappy business membrane keyboards, cheap "gaming" mice with no mousepad, "playing on a trackpad / laptop feels perfectly comfortable to me"... I get the financial problems, but it certainly does influence the reaction speed, and I remember how frustrating it was to play when I too was playing on a potato with a terrible internet connection.

    Reason why higher-ranked lobbies feel easier.. KarQ nailed it about it being a combination of everything. But yes, in Plat I noticed that's when people finally knew how to actually group up. Tanks and DPS actually don't retreat for a health pack the moment they lose 10 HP. People actually use cover for a change. In the metal ranks you have a huge combination of leavers, throwers, feeders, people who hold their ult until the next game, people who only try to ult when they think they can kill the whole team, etc. All that is such a mess that there's no coordination for the most part. So yes, that's why higher ranked lobbies will feel easier. It actually feels like a team game.

    Way back in the day I upgraded from 40fps all settings to lowest possible (no AA) to 144fps 1440p and went from mid plat to mid masters in one season, and to GM the next season so I've been across a wide range of ranks and this is my observation: once you reach mid diamond(ish) games start becoming reasonably consistent and you can actually assume you'll play as a team the large majority of games. Once you reach masters, this becomes very consistent and you can pretty much assume people 95% of the time play as a team and track ult usage/combos/economy and coordinate it. At GM this becomes MECHANICAL and you can pretty much rely on muscle memory that people will push for kills/staggers or fall back as a team immediately according to the level of pressure and picks made on each side. Random BS happening is a super rare anomaly. Mid-masters is also around where people stop being total bastards and will force a draw if there's a cheater. People sometimes do this at lower ranks down until mid-diamond, but there's so much fatherless behavior that it's 50/50 if a team will yoink a win at the last minute rather than continue the draw.

    It's probably partially psychological, but I also wonder if high ranks have more consistent players too. Base rank will have smurfs, new players, tryhards, casuals. The higher rank you get, the more consistently average the players should get, as people who overpower overs will move on further and people who get overpowered will get filtered out. So it may be that the consistency is also why it feels easier.

    Match quality does have a tendency to go down the lower the rank, sometimes making it harder than being in a higher rank where people at least coordinate better.
    Most people don't pay attention to comps, don't coordinate well, get a bit careless at times, and generally aren't too adaptive of the situations.
    When I returned this season and placed gold I had to do significantly more to win compared to what I've ever done in diamond. yea I can relate to higher ranks feeling easier to play. back when I played on console in OW1, I was SIlver for like...2 years and then rapidly climbed to a point where I hovered in the low Diamond/mid to high Plat range (career peak was like...100ish SR away from Masters). climbing out of high Silver low Gold took forever because (and I know GM/top 500 players think this is fake) teammate quality was inconsistent. once I broke the Gold barrier I climbed out of Plat and hit that high Diamond peak within the span of a month whereas before I was hardstuck high Silver/low Gold for 2ish years beforehand. when I switched to PC for OW2, I'm back in the Silver/Gold struggle bus on tank (my dps and support inherited the Plat/Diamond ELO from my console days but I rarely play those roles on PC because I'm very unfamiliar with mouse and keyboard)

    Based on my experiences getting farmed by gm players in qp as diamond 5 trash, being a higher rank leads to games that feel easier because the game has a nasty habit of putting substantially lower ranked people on teams to make queues faster. Usually the game after getting destroyed by GM's I will get matched against gold/plat players as "compensation".
    It's awful, I've been consistently leaving 3 matches every 20 just to avoid playing against gm ximmers. I've already played out hundreds of matches vs gms this way and it's just feels awful to see the crosshair do that weird jerky motion it does when they lift and move their mouse to the middle of the pad.

    It could be psychological a little bit but I think it's most likely just that because you are in a higher rank the other people on your team play Better. As somebody who has since overwatch one climbed from gold all the way up to masters I can definitely say that every single time I reach a new rank it was easier to play in those games than it was the previous wreck and the only thing that's different is the fact that the people I'm playing with were smarter or better at the game. I'd main DPS and second support when I played ranked support the game put me in silver and I had a hard time getting out of it I had a friend help me and once I got out of silver and into gold, I was able to climb up to diamond and stay there on my own. I think the reason that your games feel much easier when you get into higher ranks it's because everyone is more often properly doing their job.

    2:58 -- no I'm not with you on that one. If people are gonna get mad at competitive players for wanting to try and win in quick play, casual players cant get mad when people want to try and win in comp as well. With the amount of times I've had someone tell me "If you want to win that bad, go play comp" its bull to sit here and act like its okay for casual players to just queue up comp and treat it like its any other game mode because they want a shiny gun.

    The answer to the 1st question is very simple. As you climb higher in the ranks you're less likely to have garbage teammates. There are A LOT of bad players out there and a lot 5 stacks because people don't want to deal with those bad players. Have a nice day everyone.

  • @rikorv
    @rikorv Месяц назад

    higher ranked lobbies are easier because the difference in skill between 2 extremes of 2 different diamond players is a lot less than it is between the low and high for silver-gold players.
    the rank system is a bell curve so majority of people regardless of actual skill will end up in the average ranks, making the losing games feel harder and the winning games feel easier.
    once you break out of the curve/ema your losses will be less challenging and more close, your wins will be less easy as well, but generally the experience will be better because you have a much lower chance of getting people in your match that are being 'boosted' by the curve.
    The curve is the same reason that ranked is so frustrating for many players below high plat/diamond, your rank would eventually be corrected over the course of hours and hours of matches, but most of the people that are complaining about this curve do not play enough matches to climb to their real rank, either that or they have been hardstuck for so long the amount of time for a breakout to occur is unrealistic unless a massive improvement in skill happens [which you also have to keep in mind that the average skill level of OW players is constantly increasing as well, so the improvement needs to be faster than that of the average player, 2016 diamond is 2024 silver]
    The main issue with ranked is that this current system struggles to differentiate between people who play frequently and people who don't, people who play competitive casually and people who grind. it's not fun to get stomped because you ended up in a match with super casuals against a team of people that are actually giving it their all. it's not fun to stomp the enemy team when you put in so much effort only for the enemy to basically not try at all. I would rather lose 20 games in a row where my team genuinely tried and it was an objectively fun match, than play 20 games that are incredibly boring where we just sit on cart the whole time for hours while the enemies feed over and over again. Low ranks experience these extremes way too frequently.
    In the last year I've ranked up way more so these problems have become almost invisible to me, and people like you KarQ who are at the highest level of play, it doesn't matter if you open a fresh account, you skill diff so hard that you will blast past every rank before you get the opportunity to see the massive team diffs despite them being roughly the same elo.
    Of course everything I say could be invalid and my entire experience is just coincidence but this is what the system currently looks like to me.

    question one answer i disagree
    I have played high diamond/masters most of Ow1 and Ow2. Everyone knows what to do and where to be most of the time.
    I played with friends who were gold and silver on a smurf. It is noticeably more difficult due to team mates lack of game awareness/skill.
    You cant say its a solely mindset thing why you find higher ranks easier, especially in a team based game.

Like yeah fundamental gameplay stuff is gonna be important, but the #1 tip to climb is to just get a party. At the start of the season I was in Plat 5 for a hot minute and the games still felt like the usual throwing and not taking the game seriously like lower ranks. Now I’m back to Gold 4. I think the barrier of entry for comp should be a lot more difficult. Make the requirements to get into comp much more arduous. That way you’ll (mostly) get players who truly care about winning and ranking up. Let’s face it, a lot of players in comp don’t take the game seriously, mess around, purposely play against hard counters, whatever, and no amount of “if you lose then it’s your fault and not your team’s” or “you’re not advancing because you’re where you need to be” is going to change that reality. Furthermore the aforementioned are just excuses people make because they don’t want to be held accountable for playing a competitive mode with a casual mindset. I triple dog dare someone to tell me it’s my fault when the Dva is playing against Zarya and the Reaper and Junkrat are against two fliers and refuse to switch. I triple dog dare someone to tell me I’m not ranking up because I’m exactly where I need to be when yesterday I put a Tree right in the middle of point so it could heal everyone and everyone on my team got eliminated and lost the match. Despite me healing them on top of Tree healing. If TEAM games are not your thing, that’s perfectly fine, but don’t make me and my rank suffer because of it. COD TDM and Fortnite solo are right down the hall.

    The reason the low level bots probably feel like their games are impossible to win is because they keep trying to work as a team,there is no working as a team in low ranks,use your team mates as puppets to distract the enemy while you kill everyone doesn’t matter what role you are

    1st question: it IS easier because you are having to carry turds less often.
    Karq doesn't know shit about metal ranks. there's a DRASTIC difference in performance between gold 1 and plat 4.
    person has broken through the barrier where literally MOST players in overwatch play (gold) and into the realm where people still aren't the best, but they're definitely better than most players.
    yes, plats still make mistakes, yes, plats couldn't hang in masters or higher. but they know decent coordination, timing, cover, etc, so everyone's just trying to have better mechanics, and it's better mechanics until masters, then everyone's pretty good at mechanics and it goes back to game sense. above gm3 it becomes MOSTLY game sense, as mechanics and basic strats are a given, so now it's "who can best execute this play" which is why karq thinks all the metal ranks are the same.

      nothing unsportsmanlike about where in the map you get your elims. spawncamping is a strategy with its own advantages+disadvantages just like any other
      if you keep getting killed because you're not waiting for the rest of the team to also spawn then that's on you, and wholly preventable
      if your team is already out there then like KarQ said the fight will be 4v4 -- an even opportunity for both teams
      the fact that spawn camping is rare at the pro level says more about its overall viability than anything
