Fun story: I went to this show (it was amazing) and sat up in the balcony. When Meshuggah came on, the guy next to me yawned, crossed his arms, closed his eyes, and slunk back into his seat. He remained in this state of repose for the entirety of the show. Only afterwards did he open his eyes and look around. He looked like he'd been hit by a freight train and his pupils were the size of saucers.
He improvises a lot though, just like Fredrik. His improv are just more conventional. He admitted himself that the only solo he tries to get close to the album version is Born In Dissonance! Amazing video. It's not about sound quality, it's all about the vibe. This is a great show, the band are really into it, the venue is not too big, and the crowd is not too packed in so they have lots of room to jump around - all adds up to great atmosphere. So many Meshuggah gigs look like motionless sardines staring at them while they play some maths, this one is what it's really about, slamming as hell.
