    Ladies and gentlemen, in this video I restored an antique Saw Blade Tooth Setter.
    It´s around 50 years old (depending on the screws) and has a lot of options for adjustment:
    - setting the height of your saw blade
    - setting how far the teeht will be pushed into the setter heads
    - setting how far the single tooth should be set
    - setting if the clamps lock theirselves while setting, or not
    - You can set the way the setting heads move
    I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!
    If you want to support my channel hit the like, leave a comment, subscribe and share my work. It helps a lot! :-)
    Thanks for watching!

    Ich kann mich noch erinnern, vor fünfzig Jahren ganz fasziniert zugesehen zu haben, wie in der Werkstatt einer Eisenwarenhandlung in unserer Nähe die Sägeblätter von privat und Gewerbekunden bearbeitet wurden. Da gab es den Schleifaumtomaten und dann diese Maschine. Es freut mich immer, wenn ich mal wieder etwas seltenes sehen kann. Das Video ist auch toll gefilmt und geschnitten. 👍👍👍👍👍

    the more I watch your channel the more convinced I become that a system is REQUIRED when it comes to restoring something. it doesn't matter what the system is but you need to put things in an order that you can pick them back up and reassemble them. I don't plan on restoring anything anytime soon, but I do so love to tinker with things and now you have me thinking about my system

    • @misterpatina
      @misterpatina  11 месяцев назад +3

      Haha, yeah there’s a system. But there’s a huge difference between a system in restoring and a system in restoring and filming.
      But in any case it isn’t magic. Make yourself a good plan and pictures BEFORE restoring, and don’t rip a finger off 😉

    • @LelianWeatherwax
      @LelianWeatherwax 11 месяцев назад

      I sometimes thought filming started as a mean to document before the restoration, to know what goes where during the deassembling… Is it the case or did you have a totally separate system for both filming and restoring ?

    All tools addicts out there, please, correct me if I am wrong. Spanners used by Mister Patina are the SlimLine series from Proxxon. Ratchet made by -Proxxon as well- Vigor (red dot model). Slotted screwdrivers shown through the video are from PB Swiss, with 22:58 illustrating why those are the best flat screwdrivers in the world: their blade profile is not a triangular shape, as generally expected with cheaper brands, but a true square wedge that slots perfectly into the screw head while avoiding damaging it during high torque fastening.

    • @misterpatina
      @misterpatina  10 месяцев назад +2

      Let me add: some spanners from KS tools, the ratchet is Vigor 🙂

    I've seen one at a flea market. I'm fairly certain that they're for enormous bandsaw blades, mostly for sawmills and re-sawing. The one that I have seen was navy surplus.
    I'm more certain that these didn't come from the factory looking nearly so nice! A real museum piece!

    I remember watching my grandfather set the teeth on his handsaws after sharpening them using a much smaller handheld setting tool. With it you did every other tooth from one side then did the other teeth from the other side. This is a much easier machine but not for the average carpenter with only 3 or 4 handsaws. Beautiful restoration as usual. The end result is art as well as a tool.

      I have a saw tooth setting device from the 1800's that works fine on smaller teeth, I made a massive 3 point rip saw and needed something to set those teeth, made it out of a sheet metal clamp and some scrap steel. BTW, you bend those hardened teeth, the tips will snap off, just like his did.

    • @mred8002
      @mred8002 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@SunnnyDay I don’t remember folks normalizing the blades before setting them, but might work. Retemper after setting? Maybe it’s worse with high carbon steel, or steel alloys. Well, if you have to weld a new tooth on, that will temper it for sure.

    Just FYI. Coldblueing doesn't give that much rust protection on its own, as much as it creates porous surface which allows for oil retainment, hence oil bath is recommended. If you don't believe random comment warrior, here's a snippet from wiki: "Black oxide provides minimal protection against corrosion, unless also treated with a water-displacing oil to reduce wetting and galvanic action"
