  • By the time Lawrence (b. 1944) and Lawrencine Collins (b. 1942) were 11 and 13, respectively, they were already tearing it up on country package shows, recording for Columbia Records, and performing on national TV almost weekly. Older sister Lorrie held up the cowgirl fringe-rustling-against-nylons teenage sensuality department; kid brother Larry was a bundle of hyperkinetic energy, bopping all over the place while laying down exciting, twangy guitar breaks learned firsthand from the King of the Doublenecked Mosrite, Joe Maphis. As time went on, the Collins' recordings veered from mawkish brother/sister country-style duets to white-hot rockabilly, and they were just reaching their peak when Lorrie eloped, effectively breaking up the act. Revered by rockabilly collectors the world over, their filmed television appearances and recordings are testimony to the fact that the Collins Kids weren't just "good for their age," they were just plain good, period. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide

That kid has more energy than Angus Young! He's quite the showman and plays well and his sister's good too. Hard to believe they didn't go on to become one of the top acts of the 1950's.

What a showman and prolific guitar player Larry was. His sister was lovely as the day is long and a beautiful voice. Both were so charismatic and I am amazed that I was not aware of them until about a year ago. They were great icons of Rockabilly.

Joe Sparacio they were signed to Columbia, but unfortunately in the Mitch Miller era, who hated rock and really didn't know what to do with a rockabilly act. Larry did go on to write "Delta Dawn" years later.

This is NOT Town Hall Party, it's Western Ranch Party. But it's still the Collins Kids. The man who introduced him was Tex Ritter, John Ritter's (Three's Company and 8 Simple Rules) dad.

After watching Volumes 1,2 & 3 of "The Collins Kids At Town Hall Party" (Bear Family Records), I have to say that Lorrie is one of the genuinely prettiest girls I have ever seen. She had that authentic "girl next door" sweet personality that enhanced her physical beauty well beyond any "Beauty Queen".
