It’s a very good game and I’ve never played the original either, but I had pre-ordered it directly from Nintendo for months and got my copy on Thursday and I’ve been playing it since it’s pretty addictive and I like the fact that I can play in short birds, and it automatically saves Each stage that I’ve done.

I hate to be that guy but why on earth would they have a classic and casual mode and then remove the score system entirely. Classic mode should have been exactly how the classic gba game was and casual mode could’ve been the baby mode, removing the score system entirely takes away any difficulty the game originally had. Oh wow I didn't even process they could've done this in Wonder's art style. To be fair the two games were probably being worked at the same time. Also, the movement is slightly limited in ways that already feels a hair off in the evergreen 3d, and would've been even more pronounced in style as animated as Wonder.
Never played the original, wasn't even aware of it's existence to be honest. Looks good, I could see myself having a nice relaxing afternoon playing this one.
I’ve had Mario versus donkey Kong for about a couple of days now and I’m very much enjoying it. I think if you don’t compare it to the GBA original and don’t have the nostalgia for it like I don’t since I never paid original then I think it’s a good game, I think people complaining about the price are a little bit harsh, it’s one of the cheaper first part Nintendo games for switch and yes it’s not AAA game but I enjoy it for what it is not every game has to be difficult and challenging to be fun.
Loved the original, and I’m loving the remake, it starts off easy, but gets way more complex later on, and I love games that do that! The only problem I have with this game, is that its price tag is a bit too steep for a remake of a 2004 game, and the game is a bit too generous with lives. The bonus stages are great, but if they kept it out of classic mode, I would’ve been fine with it. Other than that, 9/10 for me, an excellent remake!
I would love to see Final Fantasy tactics advance & golden sun yes remakes on the switch, wouldn’t mind Metroid fusion or zero mission as well if Nintendo wants to throw us those as well
I was very hyped about this one. Really like those platforming puzzles game mechanics. The art style is beautiful and the sound (Mario from N64, awesome) just adds to the whole package. One question though, about the difficulty: is not that I want boss fights like a souls game, or hundred of hours like and RPG but, is it that easy and fast to finish the base game? Thanks!
I had no intention of playing this game but someone bought it for me as a gift . Having just played 64,Sunshine,Galaxy, Odyssey and Wonder in that order this is by far the worst of the bunch for sure . Playing in classic mode for an hour or so a day i was done in around a week and that includes playing back through the whole game in expert mode . Very simple game with next to nothing that caught my attention. Usually every mario game has a cool little quirk or cut scene but I've just seen this all before , i wouldn't recommend it if im being honest
The original is a childhood favorite of mine and this remake is…. definitely that game, but with pretty visuals. I dunno, this felt like kind of a weird one for them remake. It’s still good, but if you have no nostalgia for it then hold off until you can find it cheaper
If you've played the original, you'll know that they removed ALL the charm from the cutscenes. They removed a few elements of the original story, they removed Mario talking full sentences and having various emotions... And even in game, some enemies used to have some pretty cool and unique sound effects. I often use Bob-Ombs as an example, but now in the remake, the Bob-Ombs are silent outside of beeping before exploding. And it's only one example. The original had a cut level editor feature. A good remake would have added that back in. That would have been so cool. But all the personality and soul have been sucked out of this game (and out of Mario who just became a bland woohoo man who repeats "Hey, wait !" constantly) with this remake. Play the original instead. It's better.
Since this is a remake from 2004 and it's a 2D game that looks pretty similar to the original version, there's no reason why it's so expensive on the digital store ... it should be priced 10-15$ max.
I had donkey Kong 94- must have been about 7. I liked it but it was too hard for 7 year old me to complete. I seem to remember being stuck on a pirate ship
Great review as usual! I tried the demo on the Eshop but found the game didn't quite interest me as much as I thought it would. So it'll be a pass for me. Especially at that price. Maybe if the demo had been a little longer (with at least one boss fight for instance!) it would have attracted me more...
This game is fantastic my girlfriend bought it for me on Valentine's Day Nintendo life only gave it a 7 but I'm tired of games getting lower ratings just because they are not hard who cares if it's not hard it's really fun. And besides from what they said it has some end-game content that really does get challenging
I really enjoy this game but the remaster music and lack of iconic phrases from the original did disappoint me not gonna lie. Mario vs Donkey Kong was the first Mario game I ever played. So I was hoping this remake would be the definitive version of this classic game. It is good but in some parts I can't help but feel the game has been rushed.
I think it's a great game even though it lacks for the price, it would have better value if it would have been an all stars collection starting with dk 94 & new play control for the ds games..
Great review. I didn’t know this was a remake of sorts but Nintendo didn’t do a great job of advertising and selling this game. All previews about it from them actually turned me away from this game.

Let's go! I didn't play the original so I have no expectations for this yet.
Aria of Sorrow deserves a full remake. Only the graphics and sound keep it from being the best of the Symphony style Castlevania games.
Since this is a remake from 2004 and it's a 2D game that looks pretty similar to the original version, there's no reason why it's so expensive on the digital store ... it should be priced 10-15$ max.
Played this back in the day. It was ROCK HARD!
T-that’s wha… no never mind
I'm not super into platformers so will probably wait for a sale before I pick this one up.
Wonderful review! Unravels a bit in minute 9.
Your final verdict is... GUILTY! (phighting ref)
I think it's cool that they remade this hard to access game for a new audience.
Still a Good Remake in my opinion like Mario RPG even tho you can't change the old style graphic.
This game is fantastic my girlfriend bought it for me on Valentine's Day Nintendo life only gave it a 7 but I'm tired of games getting lower ratings just because they are not hard who cares if it's not hard it's really fun. And besides from what they said it has some end-game content that really does get challenging
I played both DK94 and Mario v DK on the GBA. I want to see DK94 on the Game Boy NSO emulator.
Still got my GBA copy of this!
Sorry to be boring but Golden Sun is the remake i'd like to see.
It does look good but I'll wait for the physical to come down on price I think first
I honestly think the Demo for this game will hurt the game’s sales more than help it. I love it tho.
Its interesting that they didnt use the Mario Wonder art style.
Completed W1 and W2 today. I hope the other ‘worlds’ are more challenging because W1 and 2 are way too easy.
Golden. Sun. Slap the Link's Awakening art style on it. Put both games in the remake as an Act 1 and Act 2. Print money!
I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Love the GBA Golden Sun games!
Forgot how much I enjoyed these games
I think it's a great game even though it lacks for the price, it would have better value if it would have been an all stars collection starting with dk 94 & new play control for the ds games..
I look forward to playing this.
I think I played the minish cap on my GBA so that’d be nice.
Played the GBA original and enjoyed it.
But Nintendo is smoking something if they think this game is worth $60
Nintendo should remake Donkey Kong 94 on the Gameboy. Like Link's Awakening.
That would be great!
Should be 29.99 reminds of the same creative level of a game like Captain Toad
Great review. I didn’t know this was a remake of sorts but Nintendo didn’t do a great job of advertising and selling this game. All previews about it from them actually turned me away from this game.
Definatly not worth 50$. This should be a 20$ select.😊
Looking to buy this, but waiting on this review as heard conflicting things
Honestly I didn't know this was a remake of the first one.. I thought it was a new game .
I remember playing the original, oh so long ago. 😅
In terms of GBA, the obvious answer is Mother 3, but I’m just happy to see Golden Sun on Nintendo Switch Online.
I found Wonder extremely disappointing but this seems like my kind of game. Can't wait to try it. Amazing review, too!
I’ll wait for this to go on sale. Definitely doesn’t look like it’d be worth $50. Maybe $30. But definitely not gonna pay $50 for a puzzle game.
Weren’t there about 3 of these Mario Vs. DK games?
Yeah, this is a remake of the first.
I was upset to get nothing to finish the time attack for each level. Nonetheless, I like the game.
