Picked it up on friday morning, loved every minute of it and completed the game fully this morning. Downside is that there are (again) no online lobbies aside from ‘play with friends’ which kind of kills the game after you finished it.
My little girl and I have been playing this for the past couple days and we are having a blast. She’s only 5 and it’s amazing to see how much fun she’s having playing her first Mario game.
As an "old" Super Mario Bros gamer who started playing Super Mario Bros games since on Nintendo Ds New Super Mario Bros Ds it's so nice to hear new generation's kids likes Super Mario Bros Wonder. Aww you guys are adorable playing games with your childs. 😊
My daughter just finds it frustrating because she cannot do the jumps. She is 6. But she likes sonic superstars because the platforming isn't as challenging.
Love this message...I'm going to get my 4year old to start her 1st mario game after we finish her 1st game together...kirby and the forgotten land. I would totally advise kirby as a co-op game for you and your children
I'm not even a big mario fan but this game looks like so much fun that the aaa price feels acceptable. This definitely doesn't happen with all big name games (Looking at you pokemon).
Wonder is so NOT repetitive that you almost wish for more of some of the more fun levels. I laughed out loud at points and I am loving every minute of it. Helping strangers with online play just adds a little bit more fun to the whole game. Please Nintendo, more of this!
At first it seems to me quite of normal but after experiencing so much kind of wonder seeds you can truly see the love, the passion and the fun that the Wonder team put in this game. Its my first Mario 2d game since New super mario bros ds. And its really something special, fantastic level desing, great visuals, WONDERFUL OST. At times its easy however when you engage those 5 stars levels omg that special world its so difficult JAJA 10/10
I’d love to know what visual alternative would be preferred! I feel it looks pretty different from the New series and not quite sure how they could do anything else without vastly changing the look. (Which admittedly could be cool!) I’ve been playing my solo campaign online just for the feeling of being part of the world- love the minor player interactions and support ranking.
I would say that people already have a perferred look of mario at this point in time, they just dont like the NSMB series interpretation of it, the wonder one looks way more clean and if they change it too much idk if people will love it as much as they are currently
It might be the blocky aesthetic of the environment? Looking at other games like Rayman Legends, Ori or even DKC Tropical Freeze, Those feel more organic I'd day. I personally love the Flower kingdom, but I guess some people were expecting a "smoother" look.
This is easily in my top three Mario games. Never really excited for 2D Mario but I knew this would be different. Just amazing. I would love to see this world in a 3D game now. And can we give it up for those flower guys? Perfect voice acting and I actually loled a few times at them!
I'm 45. I remember the first time I fired up OG SMB on my R.O.B. NES I got for my birthday, in April 1987. When I started this game, it took me back to that moment. 10/10
I greatly appreciate how this game doesn't have a timer... I think some people would like to have a toggle (along with many other features, like a lot of the player characters not taking damage/etc) but that one in particular is awesome to me! I can focus on collecting! :)
I was very skeptical about this game but picked it up today and I’m in love the graphics as beautiful and you can really see the care they put into this game
I'm loving this game. Re: online multiplayer, I think they nailed it. The fact that other players appear as slightly transparent helps lessen the confusion, as there were times when - even with this - I found myself briefly confused about which character I was on screen, jumping at the wrong time, etc. I think if everyone were equally solid, that would have happened far more often. Overall, the way online multiplayer is integrated in this game is pure perfection imo, and adds a lot to the experience. I'm someone who's often nervous about playing online with randoms, but the way Mario Wonder handled it made me eager to jump in. I felt like I could actually help others, and never felt bad about getting help in return. I've even had the occasional experience where another random player and myself wordlessly collaborate, waiting on each other, helping each other through the tougher parts of the level, and finishing on the flagpole at the same time. Those moments always feel extra cool. I also like that this online multiplayer is optional, so if I want to go it alone I can. Overall, it's a really cool system, and one I hope to see carried forward into future entries in the series.
A lovely modern take on a classic. I'm taking it slow and loving it so far. It's got that nice balance of being beatable but difficult to perfect with just the right amount of frustration at times. It has reminded me of Odyssey in a lot of ways, which is a real achievement for a 2D game. My only complaint? Bring back mini games! 😂
You don't collect the Wonder Seed in middle of the level twice... You touch the Wonder Flower and the seed is the prize. They literally went through this in the Direct before the game came out. Also, the purple coins are called Flower Coins, not Wonder Coins.
Absolutely loving this game. It's been a while since I've felt like a child but this game gives me all those feelings again. So much fun to be had and so many... wonderful... surprises around every corner (or should I say platform?). Thanks for the review.
Even though 2D platform games brought me into the world of videogames, I have left them behind a long time ago. But given your glowing review, that changes now! I can't wait to get my hands on this one! Brilliant!
Just finished the main story today. I think the elephant power up is fun, if a little random… I found its size a little frustrating at times and it would’ve made more sense to me if there were 2 or 3 other similarly random power ups in the game, if only used sparingly. That being said, this is one of the best games I’ve ever played and I can’t wait to play more.
I honestly agree with your review 100%. I love the graphics, but it’s the same art style we’ve seen on the Wii, Wii U, Switch and now this new one. I wouldn’t mind a change eventually. With that said, the game is absolutely super fun, and me and my 7 year old daughter are having crazy fun playing this game. And that’s all that really matters. Great review as always guys.
I'm loving the game. I have primarily enjoyed 3d mario games and am a huge fan, but I picked this one up after initially being hesitant. It's reminded me how much I love mario and now I feel like replaying 3d world and even visiting the original titles.
This is wonderful news! I was also growing quite tired of the “new mario” formula, and you comparing it to SMW (my all-time favourite game) just sealed the deal. This will be joining my collection soon!
Every review seems to get this wrong. The thing you grab to change the world is a Wonder FLOWER. The thing you grab to make it normal again is a Wonder SEED.

I just love that so much about y’all. Thank you guys for being the best video game reviewers (of any console) ever. From Texas, with love.
It's been super fun. The funnest thing has actually been (and I'm wondering if this is something reviewers won't have had) is that playing with online on but playing solo provides a dark souls-esque experience. I've found people use standees to show sometimes where there's secrets. Or even just going through a level with someone even if they're not there is quite fun. The interaction is also fun even if you aren't playing together you are, which is actually the experience I am looking for. I wanna play solo, but it's been fun to experience and see people playing alongside, or helping even.
Awesome game, brings back fond memories of Mario world on the snes, amazing looking and lots of originality! It's even got my better half playing in co-op with me (a real rarity!) This is as 2d mario should be...just plain and simple fun to the extreme!
Honestly good to see a video that doesn't have click bait titles and thumbnail that says Mario Wonder is TRASH. Low rent content right there versus high quality content on here
As someone who was there, Day 1 of Super Mario World.. and having that game be in my top 5 video games of all time… I have to say this game feels like a true sequel to (no offense Yoshi’s Island..) it that we never really got. Is the game perfect? No. I don’t think any game is. Is it a masterpiece? Yes. The boss battles could have more variety (the Koopalings should be in this game…)but the worlds are incredible. All in all at 40 years of age I’m happy to have a game so close to one of my favorite games of all time.
The controls are just a joy... some of the tightest platforming I've experienced... And I've been around the (question mark) block a few times Main complaint... Just too short for me! Let's hope for some DLC
I have been playing Wonder and Spiderman 2 and I can see so many genius decisions in both. Really top tier games that I wouldn't be surprised if they were chosen for GOTY!
I wish there were more power ups but also the badges are basically a free power up so it’s hard to complain about. I wonder how long it would take for the team to develop a Super Mario World Ultimate where every new and old power up was available.
This is like the perfect game to release right now, with all the holiday gatherings coming up you just know this will be a highlight of the night after dinner when family and friends are all in the living room, along with Mario kart of course.
Personally, I think they nailed the online multiplayer, at least with randoms. I liken it akin to racing a ghost in a mario kart game, it's interesting to see how other players go through levels and addicting to try and beat other players' times, but it doesn't allow the other player to ruin your experience by griefing you, not being skilled enough to keep up, or being too skilled and speedrunning the level leaving you behind with nothing to do like a "real" player could.
I have no idea what my switch goty is going to be, I wasn't even going to pick this up but am so glad I did. This year has been jam packed with great games and there is still more to come
9:25 Interesting. I've never heard anyone make a distinction between small mario and big mario by labeling the small as just Mario and the big version as Super Mario. Mind. Blown. 💥
the online random players are "ghosted out" because they're in their own worlds that may not be the same as yours at all times. For example, they may ride a platform that's in a different position on their screen than yours, or pick up an item that's on their screen and not yours. Due to them operating in a separate reality than you, it smooths things over by portraying them in a ghosted out form.
It's a me, Mario! Yeah. I'm definitely gonna buy this someday. Last time i played a Mario game was about 25+ years ago. It looks really fun, that's why i want to play it.
I don't usually play the 2D Mario games (or any of them really), so I'm wondering if any longtime fans would say this game is harder or easier compared to past 2D games? For me some levels are fairly straightforward or a little challenging but they match their star rating. But then other levels will be hard as hell with a low star rating or quite easy with 4+ stars.
Really enjoying it. I wasn't planning on getting it but i gave in when i saw all the hype it was getting and since i like it so much i decided to get the previous game Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and oh boy the deference between both games is night and day. I'm glad they removed the timer in Wonder. Not that deluxe is a bad game or anything but i prefer to take my time going through a level and not feel rushed...Later
The opening got a little dark there, good stuff! I have beaten the main game but I still have to beat/find some of the hidden stages. Right now for me it's at a tie with my favourite 2D Mario SMB 3. Also no spoilers but best final boss in a 2D Mario game.
I don't know if a 2d platformer has ever made my jaw drop, but I was not ready for the second level in the game. My wife and I were laughing as the parade kept going and going!
The issue I think on the artstyle when it comes to a review is that if you already have a preconceived notion, it doesn't matter what the artstyle is, it already loses points just based on taste, which isn't reviewing "what is there" but rather based on "what you wanted to be there". The thing about games and artstyle is that it's completely opinion based but what isn't is the visual fidelity when that counts (pixel art games get more of a pass depending on their style of choice, some have issues with fidelity while others don't). Things like glaring issues with shadows, textures loading in with issues, bad anti-aliasing that makes things look either jaggy or too blurry so it's not very crisp. In this case we're talking about a rather fast game that is constantly moving with tons of things in the background, foreground, and inbetween, in a lot of cases this is a clusterfuck, I did not see any concerns with this in the review, so I'd wager there aren't any issues at all with that at any point in the game (like when the foreground and background blend in with enemies at particularly bad times for example, I don't know if this is or isn't in the game, because it's on my backlog, I'll be buying it when I have the time to play it). There's also the issue of "visibility" during very hectic sections which this game clearly has, it seems however that isn't much of an issue as gameplay I've seen doesn't seem to have these issues due to the FX used during these sections (there could be other sections where this could be an issue, but again, not addressed in the video). Also, there's an issue with the review: In regards to the local multiplayer you stated that the ghost mechanic was "stressful and fun in my opinion", this was in regards to the local multiplayer. You also mentioned the Yoshi's for example as being easier for some. Which is why I question, why is the single negative at the end of the review, in regards to the "local multiplayer" state "- Local multiplayer doesn't feel quite as accessible"? I don't understand this point, I didn't see any mention of an "accessibility" issue with the local multiplayer other than the "stressful and fun" part being a double-edged blade, as for some they may find this annoying, but for others enjoyable and frantic (it's a similar system found in more recent "co-optional" Mario games like 3D World and prior 2D Mario games that allowed you to "grief" other players in a myriad of ways), so unless the same point can be levied at prior titles for having the exact same "perceived issue", I am unsure what you meant by this. I can't tell you your opinion, I'm only surmising because of how little information is given and how vague the point was. Again, the artstyle issue is a matter of opinion, however technical and visibility issues are not, I don't think "oh well, this game isn't the style I wanted it to be" should count as a negative towards a game, because that isn't reviewing it on it's own merits. However, the issue with the point that was being made in the review itself is the more pressing matter.
Mario games won't offer extraordinary graphics, but will always offer something fun to its players. I always find myself wanting to play it from time to time more than any other game.
I can't wait to fire this up! It sounds absolutely delightful and a total blast to play. I chose to preorder my copy from a local mom & pop shop so haven't received it just yet. It's supposed to be here tomorrow. As my father always says, "patience is a virtue."
Nice to see everyone in the comments happy, but be honest, if one had to choose between this and Odyssey, which of the two is the greater game? Because I haven't played Odyssey yet and can pick it up for 30 bucks, twice as cheap as Wonder...
This game is so good, I’m playing it in doses. Definitely testing myself For adhd because this is how the nes super Mario looked to me. I dreamed of this game in 85, and now it’s here. Still on world 1 and can’t wait til I see a water board!
I never liked Odyssey. It just felt boring to me. Collecting moons got stale fast. Wonder brought back the fun and for me, it's the best game since SMW.
One of the few times i bought a game on launch day and honestly i don't regret it at all it's wonderful charming pretty and the best mario game since world to me
The moment I saw the teaser trailer, I was like "Wow, new art style!". Mario looks a lot like his 3D renderings in the Mario 64 cover arts, which is different than how he looks like in the New SMB games. I don't know what other art style change it needs without it looking like a spin-off game.
I'll maybe pick it up when it goes on sale, I've heard from many that it's yet another Nintendo game that's braindead easy up until the last secret levels and that kind of difficulty curve is insanely frustrating to me. Pikmin 4 did the same thing and it almost felt like the game actively wasted my time until I finally got to the interesting bits.
I'm very satisfied that I did buy a switch oled a few days ago. As much as we know the steamdeck is more powerful device, but as a gamer I prefer these type of casual and relaxing games rather than AAA steam games. Even though the steamdeck or smartphones can emulate switch games, I still prefer holding and playing with the switch
How does SMB: Wonder compare to Super Mario 3D World ? I wanted to buy 3D world next, but Wonder does not look as i tought it would be (not good for me, looks fun now).
I wish I understood why I don't vibe with Mario or mario games. They've just never appealed to me, I understand they are good. I just.. can't seem to get into them. I can enjoy Yoshi and Kirby games. I have no idea why I'm like this. Thanks for the review, I'm stoked the fans have another title to enjoy!
I’m absolutely loving this game in rotation with Valkyria Chronicles, Borderlands and Alan Wake, SMT Devil Summoner (DS) and P3P(!) Not to mention Gordian Quest is pre-ordered for Thursday and looks a banger too. Sonic has to wait until Black Friday for a sale hopefully on the cart! Next week is Star Ocean 2! The worlds gone mad Glen - we even lost 4-1 to the Villa 😱
It’s quite a bit on the easy side overall, but as far as being a Mario game and that Nintendo finally utilizing the license in all kinds of interesting ways. This is absolutely an amazing 2D entry into the new MarioVerse.
Hey yo I was telling the girl around when streets of rage very first came out and we brought it digital and was waiting on the physical copy in the mail. I was saying man it would be good/great if these companies would put all that AI learning with NPCs in the 2D formats. This is 2019 spring I believe and man am I glad the little prayers were answered!!! Ever since streets of rage 4 we've gotten Metroid dread, Ninja turtles Shredder's revenge, Sonic Superstars and now Mario Wonder!!! This is specifically good if you have any Nintendo switches especially the lite. It's fun to be back into portable gaming while I'm at work or anywhere I go.
Glad they got rid of the countdown timer. Never cared for them in Mario because you could never really slow down or stop to take in the graphics. Games like Mario 3 and Super Mario World(SNES) had grapgics that aged very well but again it was impossible to slow down to enjoy them.

One of my fav 2D Mario games I’ve played in a long time. Beat it at 100% in 3 days and was an absolute joy to play.
I have been playing Wonder and Spiderman 2 and I can see so many genius decisions in both. Really top tier games that I wouldn't be surprised if they were chosen for GOTY!
It's so fun. Been playing with my wife and we're loving it! Definitely the most unique Mario game in a while!
Platformers give me anxiety but I' m happy for those who like the genre to get another great game!
Same! 😂
The Yoshi's are invincible and there is no time limit just fyi which would make it much more enjoyable for anyone with anxiety
@@71Chevelle1989 Oh wow that's really cool, thank you!
Just picked it up this morning. Waiting (kind of) patiently for the kiddos to get home from school to start our playthrough.
The singing piranha plants blew my mind. Was not expecting that. Loved it! 😂❤
This year has been jam packed with great games and there is still more to come
The wife and I are very excited to play this (she struggles with the 3d entries) so super pumped that it's reviewing well on the channel!
Who needs switch 2 with visuals as beautiful as this.
I do
Bought it for my kids. Playing it together.
Dare I say it: A worthy successor to Mario 3 and Super Mario World.
It's thàt good!

Interesting.
I've never heard anyone make a distinction between small mario and big mario by labeling the small as just Mario and the big version as Super Mario.
Mind. Blown. 💥
How is the framerate considering old system cpu
the online random players are "ghosted out" because they're in their own worlds that may not be the same as yours at all times.
I haven't played a Mario game in years. So happy I got this.
I’ve been playing it for three days and I’m loving it. It’s fantastic!!
For a masterpiece it's way too short 🙏🏽
The opening got a little dark there, good stuff! I have beaten the main game but I still have to beat/find some of the hidden stages. Right now for me it's at a tie with my favourite 2D Mario SMB 3. Also no spoilers but best final boss in a 2D Mario game.
Any interest in adding Canadian eShop cards to your store? I was going to buy some cards over the weekend but saw you don’t have Canadian cards.
One of the few times i bought a game on launch day and honestly i don't regret it at all it's wonderful charming pretty and the best mario game since world to me
Mario game period? or 2d Mario?
4:00 ...aren't the Wonder coins purple and not pink?
They may well be - you might not know but Glen does suffer from colourblindness - some of those shades can be real tricky! Mark
I didnt know Glen is colorblind. They look more purple to me than the Switch Up logo which is between purple and pink.@@SwitchUpYt
The times that I smiled early on and was just blown away by the innovation…so good.
The moment I saw the teaser trailer, I was like "Wow, new art style!".
Mario looks a lot like his 3D renderings in the Mario 64 cover arts, which is different than how he looks like in the New SMB games.
I don't know what other art style change it needs without it looking like a spin-off game.
this game finally got me to take out my switch again. very fun, classic nintendo experience.
The music, the SFX, the levels - so much character! The game is an easy 10/10 for me :)
I love the way Mario is more animated than ever, I wish this more detailed approach was consistent across the whole game though.
Can't wait to play this with my daughter. She absolutely LOVED Mario Odyssey.
TLDR: IT’S INCREDIBLE! I’ve been having a blast with this.
Mario has the most perfect run animation i've ever seen
I'm very satisfied that I did buy a switch oled a few days ago. As much as we know the steamdeck is more powerful device, but as a gamer I prefer these type of casual and relaxing games rather than AAA steam games. Even though the steamdeck or smartphones can emulate switch games, I still prefer holding and playing with the switch
Guys as alway u did a WONDERful job! The pinnacle of the 2D Mario since World.
Looking forward to the mgs collection review
How does SMB: Wonder compare to Super Mario 3D World ? I wanted to buy 3D world next, but Wonder does not look as i tought it would be (not good for me, looks fun now).
From what I remember on an interview, Nintendo gave the team plenty of time to craft this game so crunch free.
WHat game is better these or deluxe
I’m absolutely loving this game in rotation with Valkyria Chronicles, Borderlands and Alan Wake, SMT Devil Summoner (DS) and P3P(!)
Not to mention Gordian Quest is pre-ordered for Thursday and looks a banger too. Sonic has to wait until Black Friday for a sale hopefully on the cart! Next week is Star Ocean 2! The worlds gone mad Glen - we even lost 4-1 to the Villa 😱
Yeah, Villa are looking worryingly good. Still, 2-0 tonight for us. That'll do! Glen
@@SwitchUpYt don’t you go getting a nosebleed up there in the heady heights of top spot! ⚒️
I really wish nintendo would add a trophy system to there games, all of there recent games it seems like are already set up for a trophy system.
I'm on World 4. So far, it's easily my favorite 2D Mario game
It’s quite a bit on the easy side overall, but as far as being a Mario game and that Nintendo finally utilizing the license in all kinds of interesting ways. This is absolutely an amazing 2D entry into the new MarioVerse.
Idk, those rhythm levels are crazy difficult!
Always a pleasure watchin your videos SwitchUp! Im hooked on SMBW n im lovin every bit of it.
Great game, my kids love it. You get to play as different colored Yoshi's 4 out 5 from me.
I’m actually not much of a Mario fan tbh (I know that’s sacrilegious) however, I think I’ll pick this up - looks really fun. Great review.
This game is great! Playing it on my phone already 🔥 🤳
Glad they got rid of the countdown timer. Never cared for them in Mario because you could never really slow down or stop to take in the graphics. Games like Mario 3 and Super Mario World(SNES) had grapgics that aged very well but again it was impossible to slow down to enjoy them.
I was always really awful at the original sm platformers having an option like a yoshi to try it out might make it more of an appealing choice.
I got it for £41 from Amazon UK
