Another perk you shouldn’t max out is the one that lets you find more caps since the explosion can just straight up crash your game
Really? Haven't seen that on either my pc or xbox

I guess it depends on your playstyle. If you like to build settlements you shouldn't take it but if you just love combat you'll probably benefit from it.
You can get it on completing quests though, which is insane. If you take the final rank you can miss out on that.
@@BigPurpleCarrotNo you don’t. It just means you have to wait 60 seconds between the proc in conbat and handing in the quest. It disables it for 60 seconds, not permanently.
@@SaltSpirits Yeah I know, which is why I said you CAN, not you definitely will.
I would say at the beginning of your play through for most of it don’t upgrade it all the way and then when you get to the point where there’s a lot of enemies and a lot of mission XP then use it because you’re also gonna be at a point where you need a shit ton and that times three is gonna be a lot more than a five at that point just with the missions and stuff like that
@@BigPurpleCarrot On the flip of that, you have no guarantee that it will proc when you turn in the quest, but if it procs on something you can spam then you can quickly turn in the quest for a guaranteed 3x instead of having to constantly save and reload trying trying to get lucky.
(EDIT: On further investigation, it turns out that even if IS procs on quest reward, you are still not guaranteed to actually get the multiplied XP. You have a max 11% chance of it proccing in the first place, but when it does proc on quest rewards you only have a 30% chance of it actually applying to the quest reward.)

Lvl 3 let's you make thousands of xp in seconds from cages. All you need is a row of cages of your choice and a chems workbench. Make jet or caltrops until idiot savant goes off open the cages with a switch spray n pray or whatever explosive weapon you got and you'll be chewing through levels and you won't ever consider shelf spamming until your next playthrough

@@kaanosphereaferin Kaan
It nerfs the individual occurrence rate, since it'll only be able to proc once per minute at most, but if you have high INT without a mod that flips Idiot Savant's rate scaling, then you're not going to be getting that multiplier very often. However if you grab that max rank then when you _do_ proc Idiot Savant while spamming XP events, _all_ XP events for the next minute are tripled. Picking up the max rank also does not change that the initial proc awards 5x XP, it just adds a period after that where all XP is tripled.
Finally someone with serious knowledge instead that a crappy idiot savant youtuber
Max intelligence all the way, gotta get gun nut and nuclear phycisist

I thought for sure this was going to be the Night person perk. Getting that night vision just makes your screen way too bright
Especially if you're using a night-vision scope for the reticle. I do not know why they let that screen effect stack.
Night and darkness in the unmodded game is pretty bright and easily manageable.

Lmao am I one of the only ones that never use vats like I literally hate it since it just makes the game easy for me
@@gizmodog3594It's basically aimbot with catch, makes sense for the distaste. I think if people are intrigued by this mechanic, they'd enjoy the XCOM series significantly more. And yes it is brokenly strong play style since maybe 1/3 of the whole SPECIAL perk tree is dedicated to VATS usage. Perception, Agility and Luck points do literally nothing if you don't use VATS. I use it every now and then for the variety in gameplay, like sneaking on 2 enemies and executing them with 1 shot each through VATS, that's pretty satisfying or just for dealing with bugs that keep dodging like pros. I do enjoy the FPS gameplay significantly more though. It's more immersive, fair for the AI as you enable ghouls etc. to sneak up on you. I think the broken part about it is you can just spam it while doing 360°s like a radar. It should have a cost or cooldown entering VATS even if it doesn't target anything.
Surprised no one said the grim reaper perk or the other one.
Whichever stores crits but also getting full stamina/AP on kill randomly is also good

It's a good day when this man uploads
Yep. Todd Howard is a good content creator
The 5x perk is still active for any intelligence action, level 3 only adds a 3x perk for kills so totally worth it. Tip- If it doesn't proc when you're completing quests with save scumming, you're probably in the 3x XP kill window so wait a minute.
getting rank 3 doesn’t disable the shelf xp glitch lol. It just means you need to wait until that effect ends to begin spamming shelves, which is literally 60 seconds. the xp you lose for the initial proc is negated with the next kill at 3x xp.
You dont exactly do the glitch for waitin' 60 seconds each shelf, dont you?
Or, and this may sound crazy, but you can also just download the mod that makes it so the 60 second xp boost doesn't stop the perk from popping from other sources while it's active.
I have leveled up 2 times at certain places with high level enemies with level 3 idiot savant going off (hub city, gunner plaza, quincy) ..agree that level 2 is better for XP glitching/grinding bear traps or whatever people use .

Some day I wanna do the same lmao
7 years later and I'm still finding new stuff god I love Bethesda games

This guy sounds like Todd Howard after huffing helium
this is slightly misleading, while it is better to have just rank 2 if youre just spamming settlement objects for xp, if youre using something like the gunner cages (or just randomly killing enemies everywhere) to grind xp its much more efficient to get the final level, then use a crafting bench to make something cheap to trigger the 5x bonus so that you can kill all the gunners for 3x xp, plus you can pop some other xp bonuses like intelligence boosts to further increase the leveling speed, i find that for the later levels this method is much faster than spamming settlement object at rank 2
Absolutely faster. You can make a floating minecraft base with some concrete and the cage farm you can get several levels per cage clearing. This is how I got a level 250 character and it wasn't even a pain just fast travel a few times and the cages are filled. Make some jet or caltrops until you get idiot savant and boom killing a row of gunners was like 20k xp for me. I also mixed in Radstags Yau Guai and Deathclaws for some renewable meat and you've got minimum of 3 levels every time with just a little work. I'd much rather set that up than spam a button for 3xp and then have to drop and store legendaries.
Even with the settlement objects and other crafting spam, level 3 IS is still an overall gain over level 2. 3x XP on _every_ action works out to significantly more XP than the occasional 5x boost that might only come every 100 or so actions.
@@GremlinSciences the 3x xp from the third level is only for kills
@@emmettdraz212 exactly, even at the lowest possible 1% chance to activate spamming a chem station or whatever to force that 1% then killing 50 guys is a much more enjoyable way of leveling up and is way faster especially if you use food alcohol and drugs to max out your intelligence and xp gain, you get like 60% bonus xp off max intelligence and then 3x xp on top of that
That random boost always scared the crap out of me. Bcuz it was that surprise goofy face and noise, and it always caught me off guard
5x still on due, but also adding 3x a few second only for killing enemies...you still can get 5x for any experience for the first touch then 3x for any killing latter...

Theres always a chance to make XP in these games
In previous Fallout games, it was a waste to take a peek to get xp faster because you would usually hit the level cap before finishing the game, but Fallout 4 has no level cap. You can eventually get all the perks available, and xp boosts will help get the ones you want faster.
I just never take this perk because I think it’s annoying

Yeah, sometimes we have to take a break from powerbuilding to remember that the game is meant to be enjoyed, and that noise is seriously not enjoyable, build be damned.

Hearing of perks that’s *shouldn’t* be levelled up now has me curious. Is there a console command to remove a perk from your player?
I know there's a mod that lets you create an item to reset your points. Problem is, it also resets your SPECIAL stats.
i'm pretty sure there is cause it's one of the 'fixes' for pain train on PC when it stops working. you remove the perk, then re-add it if it's maxed out.
By the time I would use xp methods like this I would’ve already broken out the level up commands.

Refused to use idiot savant for every play-through because i fucking hate that noise
Settlement shelf glitch?
Shelves both wood and steel can be placed within each other. This is mostly useful at the very beginning of the game you can scrap everything in sanctuary and with idiot savant as your first perk and low to mid int you'll be getting to level 10ish without much work. You can do this at any settlement but it does fill up space for building. You can also scrap the shelves for 1 resource and it only costs 2 to build.
just max intelligence, grind for caps, go to nuka world, and go through the hubolpgy treatments for permanent intelligence boosts
Those aren't permanent
@FS-Flame not the maximum boosts no. But max level with the hubologists gives you a temporary +18 Int and a permanent +1 Int
I always miss the experience boosters since I’m going to get that experience anyway so the park should probably be spent on more useful things.
I think it would work well in somewhere like Gunners Plaza or Nuka-World where you're getting multiple kills in a short space of time, if you were getting 3-5 x XP for killing 15 high level enemies it would soon stack up. And besides, the shelf spamming only really works at low levels coz you only get a tiny bit of XP for that.
I started playing this game like 2 days ago and I’ve been absolutely loving it so I’m enjoying all the new stuff I’m learning about it lol.
Cannibal is also kind of annoying especially on survival making it so only eating people put your hunger meter up
I thought for sure you were going to say nuclear physicist, nothing like running out of throwables and accidentally deciding to end it all like a child of atom would.
Not to mention that stupid immersion breaking celebration every time it activates
Unrelated but i got to the Institute mission "Pinned" 2 hours after leaving the vault
With the title being “Don’t level this perk!” I was expecting it to be about Fortune Finder.
Yea bump that perk that laugh everyone would definitely start to get on my nerves 😂😂😂
I saw the thumbnail and thought you were gonna talk about nuclear physicist. I have ejected so many near-full fusion cores by accident
i love rank 3 of this perk. its like having rank one popping up for every enemy for 1 minute straight
For me i really dont like the last level perk that makes your Fusion Core last longer now makes it an ejectable grenade. Sure i could map my bash button under a different key but its beyond annoying to eject a small nuke when you alt-tab getting a discord notification for instance.
Best thing that happened to me with this perk was getting a 5x xp proc for the final mission after standing on the rooftop with maxson haha.
It also gives you a heart attack when you’re playing on Hardcore and trying to be sneaky…
I made a mod that made the rank 3 perk not cancel the rank 1 and 2 version... and it turns out they stack multiplicatively. Bet that's why they made them cancel each other out. Earning 500+ XP from a random raider seems slightly op.
Sometimes my shit goes off like 5 times in a row
I expected this to be about the Nuclear Physicist perk. The final rank allows you to eject a fusion core from your power armour and detonate it like a nuke. That might sound useful, but the problem is it triggers when you try to throw a grenade without any grenades equipped. If you aren't expecting it, you'll likely blow yourself up.
I found a way to make it reasonably handy:
Gunner cages. Having 50 gunnercages in a circle or square, 3 or 4 boxes high and releasing all at the same time, could give you a ton of exp when nuking in the middle. Just build a few shelves first
I would recommend the vampire thing perk that gives you night vision. Kind of annoying when you are playing stealth build for killing, as the side of the screen blurred out like your in some drugs while the center of the screen brigthens out.
Honestly I like playing survival with Intelligence level 1 and no damage or resistance perks. Makes it much more challenging and so that I level up slower. Imo leveling up too fast and becoming OP too soon is one of Fallout 4s biggest flaws.
I guess he didn't consider diving out of the way lol
Codenames and splendor got me into board games
And this is why I mod so I can build my character truly how I want and be a menace.
I never level I.S., I don't want to interrupt my son during his dying moment as his empire crumbles with "G'NNNNNNYEEEEEUUURRR"
I love this perk for my gunner cages: build shelves until idiot savant triggers, then immediately hit the switch to open up the cages and get all the extra xp
I wish they’d stop the bloody noise it makes when the perk activates
You can do the shelf spam as much as you want. Just scrap some guns in your settlement to cheese the settlement size down. I suggest doing something like almost clearing out a raider hold or camp and then taking the guns. Or doing a radiant quest.
It's good if you build a bunch of Gunner cage farms. Combine it with any sharp armor you have, lovers embrace perk, and berry mentats and you get crazy ammounts of XP.
The fact that there's a "meta" for this game is insane to Me. Like, I jist kinda do whatever and still end up winning.
The final nuclear physicist perk basically turns your power armor into a portable suicide booth since it ejector your fusion core and causes it to blow up right behind you instead of you just throwing a grenade.
Crafting my own shelter.
Laying everything down perfectly.
Placing a shelf at just the right angle, lining it up with the wall at the exact middle section.
Slowly press X.
GOOD-BA-WA-WA! Double XP.
I piss my pants, not expecting that damn laugh…
I restarted my run when it came out, learned that the hard way, lol
Counter point: if you have a gunner xp farm and pop the perk you triple all xp gains from killing the gunners. I went from level 57 to 64 in one gunner farm run doing this it’s quite nice. You just build shelves until the perk pops, quick save and then BIG BOY. Watch the xp roll in
I wasn't aware of this final rank thanks for the tip
You ever think…. Damn, I really should be practicing a useful life skill…. Damn
Kinda love how an “idiot” would just take the next rank without reading
Honestly speaking, I never took idiot savant. The sound of it triggering was just way too goofy for me and took me out of the game.
Most of my fights end within 60 seconds with the knife in the hole in the basement of the one place and the perk that allows you to jump from enemy to enemy is awesome
For those XP grinders using mats/carpets are actually a bit better.
Normal rugs will give you 6 XP and the full black mats will give you 11 XP instead of the usual 3 when using shelves. They'll stack on top to a certain Hight before pretty much capping out and stacking inside of eachother, if you look up or place them from a Hight They'll go higher. Alternatively you can slowly walk forward and build a fine ramp to heaven that would otherwise be a slide.
I did this in my recent playthrough and it got me from level 2 to level 20 in like 3 maybe 5 minutes and when I needed to get from 36 to 48 managed that in like 5 maybe 10 minutes and even got myself to level 50 for shits and giggles.
one perk that should always get maxed is lead belly-tier 3 completely removes rads from eating and drinking
Me getting threatened by a man with a gun (I laugh at him because it’s only airsoft)
This is the first time I'm hearing about the shelf glitch lmaaao.
There is an idiot savant mod that works with outrageously low, and outrageously high intelligence. And it removes the goofy laugh too.
Depends on how you use it. If you make a gunner farm then you can quickly level up to 100+ using this perk (legit way).
Make a tower of gunner cages, rig it to open all at once, they fall down into pit, trigger the perk, drop bottlecap mine in pit, rearm traps and wait, repeat.
If you're using power armor, don't max out the stim heal perk. With the medic chest it'll never proc.
Another perk you shouldn't level all the way up (if you're doing a specific build ofc) is Ghoulish (Nuka-World allows this perk to get all the way to lv4, where it'll gradually remove your rads). Rad healing and occasional friendship with ghouls is nice, but don'tcha freaking dare take away my sweet rads when the entirety of my build is DESIGNATED to benefit from shining brighter than the Glowing One that ate a shit ton of nuclear material
Im on playstation and i never knew of the shelf glitch and this is my 4th playthrough. Its more fun having more perks during the game
I've got a mod that flips the Idiot Savant perk. Instead of it working more often the lower your Intelligence, it now works more the higher it is
I wish with perks in the game they rolled over instead of getting negated when you level them up. Some do like strong back, gun nut, etc but not all perks do that
Instructions unclear: I've now gotten perseption 10
I just replayed through after not touching the game for like 4 years and I just realized that was a perk
