- Join TITANIC: PROJECT 401 developers James Penca and Derek Verveer for a stroll around the new DEMO 401 update.
Join us April 9th for another Demo401 adventure, this time with James and special guest Mike Brady of Oceanliner Designs!
It's your project, you can do with it as you please, but if you don't relase a sinking mode we will be very disappointed. That's the whole reason people became financially and emotionally invested in the project to begin with, that's how the project was sold to us right from the start - to experience the sinking in real time. What you've done so far looks absolutely amazing, but please don't cheat everyone on a sinking mode.
And an ocen bottom exploration model.
They said previously either last year or the year before, that it is impossible to sink the Demo401/Project401 model. So when he said earlier around the one hour mark that "there are no plans for sinking Demo/Project 401", he is not saying anything new. Trying to shoehorn a sinking into 401, would either take an ungodly amount of effort and/or would come at the expense of the new THG model being built from the ground up and with which they said "they can do anything with".
I first discovered THG in 2016 and I wanted more than anything to be able to explore the sinking ship, so trust me, I get it. However, they got way too far ahead of themselves in the 2010s with promises they couldn't keep and now in a world where it is all volunteer work and there is no "two years from the date of investment that never materializes approach", building a ship model that is accurate and they can do more with is the priority first and foremost. 401 and especially Demo 401, is basically the consolation to us for the original THG plan failing.
I disagree. Until they get the lighting down on the sinking, I'm much more interested in exploring the ship. That's just me personally though
Been a Titanic historian and lover my whole life always felt connected with the ship since she sailed on April 10th and my birthday is April 10th. Love playing this demo and can't wait for more and more to come out!
Same haha my birthday is April 10th too, been following this project since about 2013 cant wait for the next update
We all Titanic historian.
I’ve a background in Interior Design and 3D Visualisation (SketchUp & VRay). And I have to admit, the lighting in this newer version is superb. It’s so tricky to get the right balance, especially when combining artificial with natural daylight. And you’ve completely smashed this. I absolutely love the pockets of natural lighting throughout this demo. Natural daylight is always my preference when it comes to photoreal rendering and the lighting in the 1st class saloon with the juxtaposition between the stained glass and industrial elements of the visible rivets is glorious! A heartfelt congratulations!! 🎉
🥲
This being an accurate Titanic simulator is the whole appeal, it doesn't need to be your typical interactive, objective based game. For those that get it, the whole thrill is to enjoy a 3D accurate replica of the Titanic from bow to stern - nothing like that exists so in a way you're breaking new ground here. Keep up the good work team!
I don't see why major news organizations don't license some of this material from you for their annual Titanic coverage. If you don't already have one, you should consider a publicist around this time of year to help push awareness of your work and expertise. I could see CNN, BBC, etc, having your team on-air for interviews and news updates.
The likes of NatGeo have licensed this as a matter of fact.
Because they’re butthurt that it’s not „their’s”.. and god forbid.. there would be a logo of TitanicHG somewhere.
I'm just glad, SUPER GLAD, that the younger generation has an AWESOME interest in the schematics and story of this ship and her story. SUPER HUGE! Bring us back to the Titanic, one-hundred more times than Telly Savalas ever could, even though that "made live" show in 1987 fascinated and sparked the whole interest in myself. I could go on and on, great job guys! LUV you! Keep going!
Couldn't agree more, I used to think we were going to lose a lot when the current Titanic historians pass away (many are quite old!) but it seems there is such an enthusiastic new couple of generations taking on the legacy of Titanic in ways only recently possible thanks to such advancements with computers.
Stream starts at 20:21.
Thank you. These guys are masters of delivering no news.
..When he first appears on the screen ! 😄😄😄
Its not a game per-ce, its a history lesson!..and a really good one!
Cannot wait for someone to mod Adventure Out of Time into this beauty.
I wish I had been able to watch this live. However the comment I would have mentioned was if the lightbulb is clear you would see the filament, however if the bulb was opaque you whould not see the filament.
I've said this a few times.... but if this ever could get a release on current consoles and whatnot.... I would so buy this just to walk around the ship and Belfast as she was being built during different stages of construction and walk around the ship after it was completed as you guys are doing now.
A survival game should be made once you complete everything. It's low-hanging fruit. I've been following this project from the start so I can't wait for it to be completed.
Egads, I was really pulling for night and sunset mode. VR looks great though! UEVR is a godsend
Yayyyy I can't wait for HDR support!
Truth be told im more excited to explore the Harland and Wolff yard while she's being built. Id say that's the one thing i always wanted more of than anything else to do with Titanic. See the ship being built and exploring the empty hulk to really appreciate how ahe worked as if I was there building the ship in 1909-1911
Bring a sonar to the wreck and scan the stern for the propellers. That would end the debatte for 3 or 4 blade.
Words can not convey how phenomenal this whole project is. The praise I would feel appropriate is beyond my ability to express. I plan on buyiong it the day it is released (and you all should, too).
This should be used as required media in schools to teach about TITANIC.
Where are the fans in the 1st Class Dining saloon? They were installed for ventilation, and there must have been quite a few because Olympics saloon is said to have had 31.
Don’t expect actual history to be high on the priority list.
@@WhatALoadOfToscapretty sure that IS their priority
@@metroid767 Taking money seems to be the top priority.

..You're an impatient idiot...Be happy with playing TAOoT only... .
When the game is finalized, is it going to be similar to demo 3 with a storyline and the character talking while getting off the train and boarding the ship? A more lively and Immensive Titanic experience?
It's unfortunate, but I think they said a while back that this entire aspect of the game was scrapped. I think this is basically just going to be a virtual museum. But I totally get what you mean, having the complete passenger experience in one single package is my dream.
If you ask me, I’m betting they’re prioritizing the basics first and foremost, and if they can they’ll do that later
At one point they said you would be able to navigate (steer) the ship. That would have been fantastic. But it seems like that would never happen too.
Please enable HDR mode with brightness calibration
100% going to bring that to Project401. Stay tuned.
Can't wait to see the New Titanic video on April 14th.
I'm looking forward to the one on the 10th.
@@puterboy2 me to cause that's when titanic Departed from Southampton England on April 10th 1912.
Love all the work you do! It would be cool if there was an additional option to make the music more ambient-like, I.e have it sound like it's coming from a specific room rather than following you everywhere.
Or have the cinematic music throughout, but for the ship's string octet just in certain public rooms where Mr Hartley and his bandmates were known to have played.
For y’all who need it, 20:21 is when it starts.
I didn't follow for some time... so we are near to a new downloadable version? Like 2.1 or something like that? Thanks.
Keep it up folks!
For the VR comment yes I've used Meta Quest 3 with the UEVR mod and it works and works well. I'm looking forward to the new update especially for things like glass. I am using a 3080 but a 4000 series card on the higher end would be ideal.
So setting contrast to high and exposure offset slightly low can kind of "approximate" HDR a little bit in the meantime? With genuine HDR you won't lose any detail in bright or dark areas though.
Such great work!
Correct for both points. It's just a postprocessing effect. True HDR support will be added to Project401. I've done some initial testing with it and it is superb.

..You guyz are literally giving all your attention to every single aspect to make the ship look & feel the best & that's definitely extra ordinary...Can't thank you enough for what you passionate people are doing for us & the next generations to relive the history ! ! 💙🙏🏼
#nevergiveup
Great idea! I can't wait to try this out
This is an amazing job! I would love if you associate with a big video game company and make a sinking mode and add people and life to this beautiful ship.
If someone made a mod of THG that created a survival mode for it, would the team be okay with that? So for clarification, from my understanding THG is a pay to own product, unlike P401 which is a free to own product. A mod would be some form of software that would require the original product in order for it to work. So users would need to purchase THG in order to enjoy the mod. Now by "okay with it" I'm not talking about a moral judgement on rather or not the team might be against having a survival mode, but more so legally speaking. However on this topic, I wouldn't mind hearing if the team would be personally (not legally) okay with mods in general.
THG is the reason I've upgraded my Patreon subscription to the Officers tier!! A full authentic Titanic recreation. A museum quality research over fun game to spend some time with friends. Keep up the good work gentlemen...🙏
I'm confused. How is this newest version (2.1) different from version 3 that I downloaded several years ago?
Will this game ever be finished?
yall ever gonna have people walking around in it to make it feel alive?
We aren’t ever going to see it actually released, so people walking the decks is a luxury.
I feel like they’d rather actually have something fully released then spend months modeling voice acting programming ai and all that sorts of stuff
As a newbie, what exactly is the difference between 401 and THG? I know 401 is essentially something to offer fans who have been waiting, but I assumed it’s just a preview version of what will become the historically-accurate and full version of the ship within THG. I’m also assuming THG will be either paid for to access or existing solely in titanic museums. What else am I missing?
And I guess Project 401 being available as a full walkthrough versus THG being the immersive museum?
..The upcoming 'Project401' is gonna be a more refined & detailed version of the current Demo401. .with a few new explorable spaces aboard Titanic. .but not 100% of the ship...It'll be added some features like return of the Night Mode & the Sunset Mode for the very first time, the ambient sounds [ ocean, engines, wind/breeze etc. ] + bg music, Voice over+closed captions, History briefings & a few more features...P401 will have the VR headset & HDR support & be available on Steam...
..Whereas, the 'Titanic: Honor & Glory' is gonna be the full version of the game/project in future... .
@@A.Netizen.Since.2010 Well, I know some of the cabins would be repetitive but I would like to explore more to get a better sense of them - and more of the first class suites. I hope they will be adding more.
@@ilovetati91 most of the unique first class accommodations are accessible now, plus several basic cabins in different areas that give a sense for how the other ones around them were set up. It's mainly just the ones on A-deck forward that are still sealed off.
@@DistractedGlobeGuy actually many of the unique B deck suites are still missing. And they've specifically said 100% of the ship will be made available
Terra Titanic.
I'd love to know if someone could tell me when the last lookouts were ordered down from the crows nest! Been looking for this information in a lot of sources. No luck!
Hey, I've been reading On a Sea of Glass. Apparently the final lookouts were never ordered down. They noticed some time after the ship had struck the iceberg that people were congregating and wearing life vests out on the decks and went down on their own. It seems the other boat personell were busy and never called up there.
..Frederick Fleet even had started giving his hands to the officers helping in unloading the lifeboats immediately they came down from the lookout platform... .
@@A.Netizen.Since.2010 thank you for the information. Someone a while ago told me that lookouts did change around midnight, if I remembered correctly, but never followed up on what happened to their replacements. One would think that before the water would reach the access door to the crows nest, they would have left.
@@A.Netizen.Since.2010Fleet and Lee were actually relieved by Hogg and Evans around midnight, before the official order to evactuate had been given. Hogg said it was about 12:20AM when he and Evans noticed the sailors getting the boats ready and called the bridge to ask if they needed to come down and help, to which the answer was yes.
@@dramamajor1985 correct on both counts. George Hogg and Alfred Evans were ordered to come down and hekp with the boats around 12:20AM, and they both survived.
i have quastion about the subtitels
in what languges the subtittles is going to be english only? or other subtitles? i would like if you will kind to add hebrew subtitle..
thank you for the understanding
So what was updated in the 2.1 update and when will it be available for download?
..You can take a couple of screenshots from 38:40 to 38:45 where they've mentioned about all the changes & corrections in v2.1 update...But the "officers" at their Patrons going to have the early access of this new version. .& then the others...Tune in for the next DevStream on the 9th for more infos... .
Is there going to be a Mac version? Demo and final product?
Will we be able to explore the entire ship when honor and Glory is released?
Will there at least be a full sinking mode across the ship, if not a survival mode?
With all the effort they put into their real time sinking videos, it would be a shame not to. But I think they said.... here (1:12:49) that its "not our goal."
@@elizabethlestrad5282thanks for the timestamp. Can’t deny that hearing that is a BIG let down for me as they show off many parts of it sinking. Would rather they focus that element than remodeling minor parts.
I mean that’s what honor and glory is for.
@@the25thdoctor How is the sinking of the ship not also a vital part of it though?
There are two games we can say... Titanic Honor And Glory will have that full experience... Project 401 is a separated experience...
Is there also a Sink version to play later?
..Yes. .of course !
..James Penca once during a live broadcast talked about it especially...And he was saying this project is pointless without the Sinking Mode... Eventually they're gonna add it in the full T:HG game. .BUT..... It's going to happen far in the future...They won't add it even when the full game will be finally released...The work on the Sinking Mode will begin in sometime after the release & the players get used. to it....He said, the Sinking Mode will have a nightmarish effects. .just as close to the actual night & morning of 14 & 15 April, 1912. .in the calm but scary north Atlantic open water. . perfectly synced with an almost pitch dark night , starry sky with visible arm of the Milky Way above the sinking ocean liner, screaming of the slowly dying passengers trading in icy cold arctic water, growling sound of the steels grinding on eachother, sound of steam & dying engine, the distress signal rockets, sound of the whistles every now & then coming from the lifeboats floating around, haunting sounds of her splitting up in half towards the final moments & many other stuff.....The players will primarily have two different perspectives...One from the floating away lifeboats & the other one will be from aboard the sinking ship...And since they'll be able to go a full 360° around the disaster scene, they'll be adding much more to their perspectives in the process...In the Sinking Mode, there gonna be a few 'tasks' for the players or the virtual passengers aboard...one of them being. .helping the women & children to get on the boats...There'll also be a areal view of the sinking vessel from where the players can witness her final plunge into the Atlantic...Now imagine the entire thing you're experiencing through the VR goggles ! !
..I hope everything goes just as their original plans. .which also include the full digital reconstruction of the Southampton dock & Titanic's berth terminal#44 from where a player will be able to board the ship as a passenger in April 10, 1912 to start the main game. .or say. .the 'voyage'... . 🙂
Why limit your games project. You have all the ability’s to easily throw in a survival mode to a sinking mode.
If it’s so easy and quick to do, maybe you should volunteer and do it for them.
Let's listen to James drone on and on and on again while the game we contributed real money to STILL isn't finished (and probably never will be).
Do the engines have their sound effect?
..In P401
i played the demo,a nd it ran smoothly even on the higher settings, but now, even on low and mis settings, it lags like crazy even though i updated the graphics cards to the newest
with all the many chairs on the ship will it be possible to sit in any of them?
..Yes. .a 'sitting view' feature is already available in Demo401v2.0. .but it's gonna be more refined & perfected in P401... .
can you walk onto the deck well and forecastle in this version?
..No. .but in P401
You should allow mods so everyone can get what they want.
So will finished Project 401 have the entire ship? He mentioned a new space or two compared to the demo, but I understood it as being a walkthrough for the entire ship. Sorry, new here
all relevant spaces are done, for example when you have 200 cabins that look exactly the same there's no point in making them all accessible and would just be a waste of dev time
@@YourSweatyUncle right but didn't they say the plan was for the final product to allow for 100% exploration
@@ilovetati91the ENTIRE ship will be coming on Titanic Honour & Glory. They're rebuilding her from scratch, so it'll take quite a long time.
In the meanwhile they'll release Project 401, which will be 50% of the ship with some cool features.
Where is update??? Sound only????
I live in Southampton and would love to do a line of voiceover for a background voice or something
..I think I've seen you writing this even before...Are you a voice-over artist over there ? 🙂
When will we be able to play as the iceberg
..Never 😄 . .no luck in that... .
What is "survival mode"?
I think they mean making it into a "game" where the ship is sinking and you have to run around, lower lifeboats, close doors and things like that. That's not what they plan on doing, it will be more like a virtual museum of the Titanic.
The sinking.
Has anyone tried playing project 401 on the Steam Deck
Appreciate the super thanks! I've not tested it personally, but I've heard reports from others being able to succesfully run it on the stream deck. The newer version has lower RAM and VRAM requirements so it should theoretically run even better.
Anyone got a summary of this? Two and a half hours every year for countless years gets a bit boring for little to no progress. Is there a real update? If so how far forward in the video do I need to fast forward?
So no VR for 401?
For Project 401 (which will be paid) yes
Votre jeu met plus de temps a sortir que le Titanic a être construit ..
..Dumb comment...That was a physical ship...This one's going to be a digital version. .so it will take time...And if you're that much impatient, then you're probably not for this project... .

Let's play anything but the game everyone has been waiting how long for?😂😂😂
Will there be any Ice Berge encounters in ship sinking
Hi my name is Matthew. The ship won't be sinking, it would be an impossible task to take a hit at with our current silicon based technology. It would be an even level plane of water with a generic water effect on it that slowly moved up and they'd have to custom animate it for every room every step of the way for any realism and the Titanic had over a million and a half rooms on it and that would just be an impossible task to undertake unless you just want a carpet of water magically appearing out of the floors. God bless you and take care, I love you.

@A.Netizen.Since.2010 it's been over 12 year's they've been working on this, considering we're no longer getting a story oriented game with NpC yes this Is a awfully long time for a full virtual titanic model.. it would be quicker to rebuild the real ship 😅
@@bojack99with a team the size of theirs? No, it would absolutely NOT be quicker to rebuild the ship.

Rebuilding the Titanic with 100% accuracy takes time. I'm amazed with what they've already created.
It will. Be patient
..Then what's your current age. .120 years ? 😀
The original team left a couple years ago after the larger investors pulled out due to lack of effective organisation.
The current team have since had to effectively redo the whole project from the ground up without any commercial backing, and the first part of the new three-pronged release is set to be finished around Christmas.
