Dunki might be weakest Rajkumar Hirani film, might not met the expectations but Vicky Kaushal role was very emotional and impactful! In my opinion bollywood should make more films like 12th fail, Swades and Chak De India. In Salar vs Dunki clash, Salar won by earning Rs 700 cr worldwide but what is suprising in this film being a non action film earned Rs 470cr worldwide.

Not sure why people are saw in Vicky's performance. Like the movie, that performance looked cringe as hell. Not entirely his fault that the character was written stupidly but partially his fault that he didn't took time to realize that it's cringe. Doesn't matter what type if films are made, you will know if someone has made movie just to earn money and revive someone's career or with passion. Dunki was the stupidest movie I ever saw
@@nightking-hs5hi to be honest, i also felt his role was quite cringe. I mean just compare it to the 'Yeh Dukh Kaahe Khatam nahi hota bey ' wala scene from Masaan to That drinking scene from Dunki. I mean , that's a big tonal shift. I believe Its not Vicky's fault. The director asked him to perform the role like that. Also it was quite over the top and Vicky Kaushal 's calibre was not used properly in the film. For example, just go and watch the scene of Sanju where Kamli requests Dutt sahab to save his friend. The conviction of Vicky Kaushal in that scene.
I also felt that Dunki didnt do Justice to Vicky Kaushal's role. The way they handled the su*cide scene was very poor.
Still feels Salaar was a Better watch than Dunki. Not in terms of Genre. But in terms of Quality content.

Worst movie of SRK and Hirani. This is so lackluster that Zero seems like a masterpiece. Worst thing about this film is that how illegal immigration was shown as a joke. The first 45 minutes were entertaining, IELTS classes, Vicky kaushal cameo made it bearable. After Vicky's death, the story derailed so bad, screenplay just became super slow, began testing patience. Plus, makeup looks horrible. After a time leap of 25 years, they look like 65 year olds. RIP logic 😂😂😂😂Overall, a very below average and forgettable film.

I wish Raju Hirani really used SRK's full potential. One of our old neighbors ruined their happiness when the father of that family chose Dunki way to go to Italy only to die mid way tragically. Shipwreck incident. So the concept was good in terms of spreading awareness. However I couldn't emotionally make connections. I didn't cry for once and I usually cry watching movies. I felt sad. But ❤ ko touch nehi hui. 🙁🙁

There are so many good reviews on Dunki and I kept wondering ‘ Am I the only one who couldn’t stand even the first 30 mins of the movie!’. I liked the bajrangi bhaijan wala take. Having him as a big brother rather than love interest. This is not just a rant but a good contribution. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The biggest reason this was the worst Raju Hirani film is because VIDHU VINOD CHOPRA is not the producer here.
We now see saare Raju Hirani projects mein Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai , 3 Idiots , PK, Sanju how much VIDHU VINOD CHOPRA has contributed without getting enough credit.
Aur bhai, poori movie ka theme is 'Nilkle the kabhi hum ghar se, dil ghar se magar nahi nikla'... But yeh theme ko Akhiri 15 min mein kyun bata rahe ho? Pehle se establish karo naa...

I am a die hard SRK fan but wanted to get up an leave during this disaster. By far SRK's worst. What I personally feel that this movie lacked from the other Hirani movies is Mr.Vidhu Vinod Chopra. I feel all the emotion quotient that the other Hirani movies had has a lot to do with Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

I did not like the film due to some reasons but Vicky Kausal's part made me emotional like jab wo London na jaa paane ko lekar maayus hota hai or SRK usko himmat deta hai ki koi baat nahi jab Balli, London pahuchega to tumhari premika se tumhari baat karwa dega or wo suicide scene bahut emotional tha.
In the end jab Mannu, usi PCO ke saamne jaati hai jahan Sukhi ne aatmahatya ki thi or wahan wo usko mehsoos karti hai that moment was also very emotional.🥺

Great review with eagle eye observation. Loved the trope comparisons of all Raju Hirani movies. You won my heart at the end by referencing Narayan Murthy and his nonsensical 18-hour work comment. You are truly a cut above all the other reviewers AND roasters out there.
Also, I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion that SRK should have been a big brother figure, not a romantic partner. People need to understand that you don't need to have a romantic interest in someone to help them achieve something. Well, what else can I say?

Both Swades and Dunki are based on the theme of leaving your nation for some better opportunities and they finding yourself being home-sick as hell.
Both had Srk in it.
Both had a love angle in it.
But why did Swades worked and Dunki didnt ?
I believe its because Swades mein they were establishing all the points from the very beginning ki Mohan is such kinda person and He is perceiving the nation like this. He is changing himself while being in the nation... And character change is happening while he is In India..
In dunki they did everything like a Jalebi.. they get to the very theme of the movie at the last 15 mins. Woh character change last 20 min mein batate hai. And they didnt handle it well. They illegally went to England. They illegally returned to India. Toh tum 20-25 saal England mein rehke Kuch nahi Seekhe? Where is the Morality side of the movie trying to tell us?
Thats why it didnt click with audience.

I went to watch a film called "Footprints On Water" only a few days before watching "Dunki." Both of the films kind of explore the same ideas but the execution and presentation along with the story set both of these apart. Yet many aren't aware of the the first film while the latter is a big commercial success. I couldn't foresee me criticizing a Raju Hirani film but here I am, wishing it was a better fim.

Agree with everything you've said in this review...dishonest nhi, fully honest tha ye review tera! Trust me, I'm as big of a SRK fan as you are, but I couldn't have felt more disappointment watching this movie, not only cuz it was supposed to be a masterpiece of a collab between 2 giants of the film industry, but even just as a simple movie. The humor didn't hit, the romance definitely didn't, the emotions didn't hit and neither did the premise. And this movie was one that Raju himself touted to be his best..sheesh! Kuch tha hi nhi movie mein. I was literally at a loss for words when my friends and family asked me my views on whether they should watch this on in a theater. All I could muster was - movie pe opinion banane ke liye hi dekh lo, only if you want to though

In a year where SRK ruled the box office, this movie was really disappointing. The role did not suit him at all and plot/tone of the movie was all over the place.
I watched The Great Indian Family and 12th Fail around the same week as Dunki and was dumbfounded by how uninspiring it was. There is a lot that could have been explored about the immigrant experience and Dunki missed the mark on every one of them.

What I think is Vidhu VC factor is affecting Rajkumar Hirani direction. (what kind of stories can be shown under the banner of VVC is evident from recent 12th Fail success critically)
Some people highlighted that in Sanju as well but RK's brilliance compensated for that.
Dunki would've been a disaster if it wasn't for SRK's success run last year and some reputation of RKH due to his past directorial like PK and Munna Bhai etc.
Uhhh...people (including us Pakistanis watching Indian movies on Netflix, Amazon etc.) were truly excited for this collaboration.
Hoping RKH do some good movie next.
Hoping SRK doesn't make himself stereotypical for massy roles like Pathaan and Jawan.

Absolutely agree! I'm also a big-time SRK simp, but this movie was so disappointing. I kept waiting for something good to happen, something fun to happen. I mean all of Rajkumar Hirani's movies have an amazing fun element to them, be it Munna Bhai MBBS, 3 Idiots or PK. This one was just mediocre at best. So lackluster, it makes me sad.

I have not watched DUNKI cz the trailer itself looked so bad. again too many looks like in jawan, and unconvincing.
too many spices will ruin your dish, and you will not taste the best, and how it is meant to be.
sadly for me JAWAN & DUNKI are with very too much spice :( Being a big fan, Sadly Dunki is the Rajkumar Hirani film that I don't want to watch.

Oh thanks for pointing these things out. Every person i hv spoken to about this film had praised. I am a srk fan too. But this is just a bad work. Period. No chemistry no story.. they jumped from a scenario to the other without giving enough time to the audience to connect.
