I thought I’d come on here and comment on what the problem was. There was an issue with the power at that particular venue, which caused a Legacy amp to go down during rehearsals the day before, and also caused issues for the lighting console as well. (I believe Dante’s amp went down the previous time we played this venue). Not a fun situation, and quite a jarring way to kick off a tour..but I am glad we were able to continue the show for the fans. Next day everything was back to normal, and we are smooth sailing through this fantastic G3 tour! -Doug
I remember seeing this kind of issues when we had to perform on really old venus with old wiring. It could be a venue with lots of harmonics in the power line. Those are hard to deal with in reality and i remember building a power regulator for amps that had sensitive switching . Pete cornish came out with a similar solution. its heavy though but saves you from trouble.
Steve Vai best tone was mid to late 90’s with his Bogner Ecstasy. Second was early 2000s with his Legacy 1. Now, even his tone is sweet, it doesn’t surpass the Bogner era. Listen the original G3 (1997 with Bogner) and his Live in an Ultra World (early 2000 with his Legacy 1).
What setup did you use to record this? It captures the feel of the concert exactly how I remember it. Especially the drums, most other recordings dont seem to capture the hit of the drums very well.
I'm believing this is a power fluctuation issue , like a voltage drop. We live in an electronic world , for everything , and the gear used today is much more sensitive than gear used back in the 80's and 90's. Now , a solution to this would be to have his main system on board for his normal rig. Then set up a few 200 watt stacks , with a second pedal board , an EQ , and the basics. Have that connected to a decent sized Generac generator . Have the switch over cables side by side. That way the tech could just start the generator , unplug a few input cables on one system into the other , then Vai switch to the other pedal board. Problem solved in less than a minute. Some of these venues are not prepared for the power consumption needed nor do they have STABLE power. Which is the key. You drop your voltage coming in just a few volts , and equipment starts acting really weird , till failure is reached.
I can see Steve calling Synergy amps guys right after this show. I saw Steve Vai at the Eggs in Albany NY in 2022 and something similar happened with his Synergy system. I suspect this Synergy technology won’t pass the test of time. They’re only 4 years old.
Two power amp failures on separate rigs (technically 3 in the synergy rig). Not a fault of the Legacy or the Fryette's powering it. They are well built and need to be maintained. Having two backups fail first tour date likely has to do with venue power and the lack of proper maintenance on the tech's behalf. This isn't a brand thing
wow what a nightmare. ive had dreams that pan out EXACTLY like this. Everything that can go wrong DOES. And then more shit goes wrong. And then something happens that u never expected. then that thing happens again. and ur stuck in this devolving chaos with no way out but ur grace. And Steve does really well with that part of it. The tech earned some money...then had to give a report abut what went wrong and maybe to cover his ass.
Voltage and current surges. Vacuum tube amplifiers especially hate dirty A/C Steve kept his cool though. No throwing his guitar into the drum kit. The test was: he still kept his cool even after the 2nd amp shut shop! *Still the best electric guitarist in the world*

Not a good marketing incident to Synergy amps modules. Not even for Legacy aftermarket sales at Reverb (since Carvin doesn’t exist). Synergy amps sales going down after this.

thats just a jam they came up with in the Inviolate rehersals. It's not a song its just a simple thing they came up with during the pre rehersals@@jm71681
It happens when you play live, real musicians doing real music with real equipment...not a playback rolling around like in Rock in Rio here in Brazil (when the pop artists play)
Power conditioners are good at filtering noisy AC but have no load properties to stop a voltage surge or spike in power strong enough to pop an Amp fuse or tube.
wait, doesn't one of his amps inevitably burst into flames at his show? seems to me that this instance is like the 3rd or even 4th time this has happened to him. maybe over the years it has become part of the theatrical action that is the Vai Experience. guess who's amps probably never explode? = Joe Satriani's. what
The LED lights in the neck are not earthed properly. As long as he uses that guitar, he risks this. I warned him about it a couple of years ago on his youtube channel, but he never listened, and it is still blowing up his rigs. We know his techs don't read the comments.
Yikes. The Furman should have prevented the rack from crashing, unless perhaps one of the units within the rack was also directly connected to the house. (Like protecting the front door, but leaving the backdoor wide open.)
Steve has never written anything resembling a sweet melody but at least he was fast and delivers his stuff with emotion, if that appeals to you. I suppose.
All these amps/racks/etc are electrically protected, obviously. No amp had a "blowout". Think of what happened as an electrical safety trip. Still, interesting to watch. Thanks for the upload.
@@LuukEvo you didn't see the tech rebooting it? It's a real shame the effects are just copies of the originals. Joe's rig sounds really sterile and I wish he'd go back to using pedals instead.
@@n0nyabznss The tech was in the middle of troubleshooting, and was rebooting everything. At the end of the video, Vai explains that it was in fact the amps that went down. Two blown amps in one night? Sheesh...

I absolutely agree with you. But...for one reason Steve is using Synergy now, his ears cannot be wrong!
Totally agree
The b9gner extacy was running on the clean channel, all thw drive was coming from a ds1

Killing it Steve 🔥
That OG Legacy has some bite!!
What a legend. By far one of the best
How many came here from Steve post in FB?
The faux “pants drop” after the second one went down was hilarious
What is facebook? People still use that shit?
