This song is inner conversation with self when you are away from your mother land. Your own mind is telling you that you now have everything, so why not to come back to your mother land? It echos the pain as if you are away from your own mother and gives you enough wordless feelings of how lucky you are to have that special bond with the soil where you were born. I am here in the US get this feeling all the time however it's been just one year since I have moved here😂

The word 'Swadesh' is made of two words actually. 'Swadesh' = 'Swa' + 'Desh'. 'Swa' means 'own'. Whereas 'Desh' means 'country' or in this case mother land. So, there's a inherent vibe of patriotism in the word 'Swadesh'. Similarly the name of this song 'Yeh jo desh hai tera' means 'This country is your own homeland'. 🙂 PS: If you want to get the vibe, you must watch the movie. You won't be disappointed.
One of Rahman's best composition. And the fact that it's about going back to your roots, your people your nation...the appeal is universal. Anyone away from home must gather some tissues before listening or watching the song doesn't matter where on earth
15:10 that's actually something a lot of film composers, and just music producers in general these days, seem to struggle with. ARR's decisions are "forward", yes, but as you said - it still takes a trained ear to appreciate and glean details SOLELY from the music itself without even knowing the lyrics. For an audience that isn't as trained, as Waleska said, it's a very accurate translation of emotions into music and it makes you feel without understanding why you feel that way. But because it's ARR, you trust that whatever you're feeling is what he WANTED you to feel. It takes a great deal of trust between the composer and the general public for that dynamic to not fall apart - and it's also why Hans Zimmer is so sought after.
Swades was a great movie by Ashutosh Gowariker, it is kind of called Parallel Indian cinema, underrated, perhaps ahead of its time, it did not perform well at the box office, one on my favorite performances of SRK and great other leads the whole cast were excellent. You should definitely review it in your movie channel. Phenomenal music composed by AR Rahman, wonderful soundtrack album lyrics written by legend Javed Akhtar. The Shehnai is a long tubular wooden musical instrument with one end made of metal. It is used in temples, played at weddings, it is said to be an auspicious instrument.
