  • Hello Singderellos,
In this video, I react for the first time to Pakistani singers Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Abida Parveen performing ‘Chaap Tilak’. In this video, I analyse their magnificent performances, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and tell you what I think made it so great. I loved these singers from Pakistan!

I had the same thought more than once. I know of several reactors that have accumulated a million or more subscribers. None of them have it over Lolli. Those reactors are also very good technically. But, Lolli tops them on vocal analysis. She is the funniest and most entertaining music performance reactor out there. And, the quality of her productions easily outshine those highest-performing competitors. ... Lolli has had a late start compared to the million subscriber set. Her catalog of reactions is still quite small compared to that group. The quantity issue seems to be her biggest impediment. Those high quality reactions come at a cost of time, which translates into fewer total number of reactions. If she could find a compatible spirit on whom she could off-load a good bit of the production work, that could help with getting reactions out more frequently.

been listening to Coke Studio for the last 10 years and its been such a magical musical journey. I wish we had something similar in the UK. I literally swore out loud when you demonstrated gamaks. I recognize them as imitations from a popular youtube video, but your ability to reproduce them (almost) accurately without Indian Classical Training (I assume) is unlike anything I have ever seen before. You're a weird genius.
BTW: The "gamakas" you reference are from Carnatic music, and are a bit different from those used in North India and Pakistan. The word "gamak" is still used in Hindustani (North Indian Classical) music, but less often and with a narrower meaning. Ornamentation in Hindustani music is known simply as "alankaar" (literally, decoration or ornamentation). Types of alankaar include "meend" (slides/bends), "gamak" (melismas articulated with breath), "murki" (rapid melismas without breath articulation) and so on.

Don't get me wrong - the male singer is amazing too, it is the deep soothing and warm quallity in the female voice that captivates me. Taken by your joy and enthusiasm, I recall hearing that when this sort of music is performed in traditional settings, some in the audience will swoon in ecstasy. In order not to pass out and miss anything, they press currency notes between their two flattened palms, rise and walk up to the musicians to make their offering, then return to their seats until the next passage they find taking their consciousness to the edge.

The absolute BEST “reactions” on YT can be found on this channel. I’m awed by your ability to enlighten us with the “gory details” of vocals - even us non-vocalists - an make it all so informative and interesting.
This music absolutely blew me away. My exposure to anything like this music is John McLaughlin and his Mahavishnu orchestra with L Shankar.

Your analysis is spot on and you explain it amazingly. This is the best reaction video I have seen for this song, you have demonstrated your knowledge, and passion so gracefully. I loved the way you have explained certain topics by singing parts of the song and its associated techniques. I learned a lot from your video instead of just getting an emotional reaction. Your expressions are so relatable and lovely. With genuine love and appreciation from USA.

Unfortunately, NFAK (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) videos have no lyrics translation in caption. Listening to him while understanding the lyrics is mind blowing. He had always selected very strong lyrics.

@@khursheedalam9142 Thanks Khursheed. Yes, I'm sure it is mind blowing, I don't understand most of the lyrics being English but I do understand that the sentiment behind his songs is of a devotional, religious nature and I can see that he is singing meaningfully without understanding what he's saying per se. I'm not particularly religious myself but appreciate the songs nonetheless. Allah Hoo, for example means something similar to the Truth of God.

A.m.a.z.i.n.g. You are one of the few reactors I watch if I don't know the artist and this was a real treat. I wish we had more of this style of music fusing into western songs. So good. Your ability to mimic these sounds is truly shocking. I feel you are a vocal chameleon.

what a glorious sight to behold..ur reactions never fail to amaze me. d joy and delight when u see and hear these vocal nuances is so captivating. and what is even more jawdropping is you literally do reproduce the sounds u're analyzing..and ur analyses are technically superb whilst delivering them in the friendliest way, even kids like it. but it's those sudden blasts of wit and banter that sends me reeling crazy..even days after, off screen, they linger. uv been at d top of my list for a while now and ive watched other reactors (and there are good ones too), but since I found ur videos, none comes even close to this mix of education and fun.

All the famous performers from the Fateh Ali Khan family are absolutely gorgeous. The spiritual natural of the lyrics (poems of the Sufi mystics) have always sent me over the edge and into tears. I mean, it is devotional music. I feel the same when I listen to Black gospel music from my own culture .Back when I was radio dj, I would mix Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with Mahalia Jackson or the 5 Blind Boys of Alabama and be stunned and pleased at how seamlessly they blended.

I would recommend Naina Moray from season 10 (featuring two brothers with extremely different voices) and Kangana from season 4 - a slightly deeper cut but absolutely virtuosic performance
