- When I first started Lycoris Recoil, I had really high expectations. What I did not expect to find was what might be my new favourite anime of all time. I love Chisato and Takina so much. I no longer simp. I only ship. Ok maybe I simp a little.

The screams at the end when Takina is trying to get the artificial heart made me go wide eyed, it sounded real and desperately heart wrenching (lol did mean to do that)
Amazing video; I feel this is the first one made after the end of the season I've seen so far to really capture what makes the show so good at a deeper level. I wanted to add that, while Chisato's character remains more static, one point I feel people kinda gloss over is that Takina is the only person she's ever broken her no-kill rule for, let alone twice. We know she values her set of morals over her own life, so seeing her shoot one of the people she considered a father and then later send both herself and Majima through the glass separating a tower from the city below shows just how much Takina has also affected her. I hope to god that in whatever future material we get that they'll get a happy ending together, emphasis on the 'together'.
Thanks man! I absolutely agree with what you said, Chisato is the one that very obviously influences Takina early on, but as the episodes go on you definitely see it work the other way round too, albeit maybe a little more subtly. I love them so much together, they're made for each other.
okay, to be fair, she was kinda forced to do that, at least the first time. She did do it for her, but she was forced into it.
I love the difference in Chisato's eyes when she shoots Yoshi, they go from shiny rubies to actually looking like bloody bullet wounds.

I can only think of one single detail you missed: the English dub is SOMEHOW JUST AS GOOD as the original Japanese voices! The English voice acting isn't stale! It's freaking ALIVE!
Lycoris Recoil was a series I initially didn't have high expectations for due to how it was promoted early on, but I'm so glad that I got to watch and experience it. I consider myself an extremely jaded and easily bored old geezer nowadays, but not once did this series ever feel dull or bland or anything remotely negative. It may not have been flawless for sure, but it was one of the most consistent and fulfilling anime experiences I've had in quite a while, and easily a personal favorite (Top 20-30 on my list, at least). The voice acting, the character banter and chemistry (especially with Chisato and Takina), the fun gun-themed premise, the ridiculously entertaining antagonist in Majima, and just a really well-paced and scripted story. What I also feel is that Chisato and Takina seem far more genuine and intimate with their relationship than even most couples in shows actually centered around yuri/girls' love....which says a lot, ngl.
I would love a s2 to happen in the near future, which is becoming more and more possible given how much popularity this series has gotten since. But even if we don't, I'm still satisfied with what we got here, regardless.
Absolutely agreed man. I actually barely knew it existed until the first episode came out and I thought the key visual looked really pretty when scrolling the seasonal chart. I didn't expect to find a show I love so much nor did I expect an original anime to blow up so much, especially in Japan (it's destroying records there). I love Chisato and Takina's dynamic so much. Hopefully its success means we get more of some form of anime content (I actually think a movie to tie everything up would be perfect)

You pretty much summed up my feelings. I rated it a masterpiece too, kind of in the same league as shows like Violet Evergardan.
Some of the Lycoris Recoil's episodes, I have re-watched more than 10 times and they still put a smile on my face.
Can't agree more about the strengths of the show, such as the story telling, the script, shots choice, transitions and timing, character development, voice acting, music, etc. They would present details of the story, sometimes through various background elements, like what happening on the TV, or reaction from one of the side character. Every action, or dialogue has it's meaning. A line said in a late episode, I could track it's reason back to an early episode. The production even put efforts on some of the minor details, which make the show so "complete". The different eye-catchers are good examples.
Hell yeah I love Violet Evergarden too, definitely in that caliber of anime imo.
The entire story felt like it was planned out very early with how much foreshadowing there is, though I do sometimes wonder if Chisato was originally meant to die and they took it back when they saw how popular it got in Japan. I'm glad she lived though, fuck that last episode scared me.
Agreed about the ending music, over one week since the last episode and I cannot get it out of my head.
Also +1 for Kojima game hype.
I must have looped the ed at like hundreds of times at this point. And if Kojima makes a game I will go into more debt buying 10 copies. The man's a fanboy, he's bound to make it amazing.

I was thinking of recreating Takina and Chisato guns in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 because the game has similar weapons, but seriously Chisato noises make me smile the whole time and Takina with a ponytail is just too much for me

Great video! Just binged this show as well and man. Your description of “fun” is so accurate, I’ve been quite burned out on anime, but this show made me really feel happy while watching it. Granted I’ve always had a weak spot for wholesome and adorable shit but my point stands. I personally really dislike wholesome shows with bad endings so the way my jaw dropped to the floor when I first heard about her limited time… anyways glad to see a video simping for this show so I don’t feel like I’m simping alone, ciao! o/

I really love this anime. I started it 2 weeks ago and finished it last week. I really loved Chisatos and Takinas relationship simply because I can relate to it. I myself was like Takina. I didn't really smile much and I was more of an introvert. I had a friend like Chisato that brought out joy and laughter in my life. They were my opposite and we were friends since middle school. He would make it easier to let out a genuine laugh and easier to talk to people. We fell off after HS cause he moved cities, but I still hope he's doing well. I really love characters like Chisato, that bring sparks of joy. Love love love the ending. It really hit whenever an episode was near ending and it started playing too.
Watched this a few weeks ago because I was seeing people saying how good this was from clips I was watching and got to say was not disappointed. Probably one of my favorite shows I have watched. Also, the mock battle sequence was my favorite part hands down!
You made some very good points. While it's not my all time favorite anime, I think it's easily the best way I've ever used 6 hours of my life. I've seen plenty of good action shows, plenty of comedies, plenty of romantic stories, plenty of anime with great world-building and so on, but this really is the first time I see everything done to near perfection in the same compact and perfectly packaged product. It's just about all I could have asked for and more. I knew I was gonna like Chisato from the very first preview, but each and every character grew on me in some way through those fantastic interactions. And I feel like this is what it really did best. There were no characters without purpose and no moments without purpose. Nothing felt wasted or stretched out needlessly. It really managed its runtime that well. Not to mention how just as you said, everything evoked strong emotions in one way or another. From that childlike joy of seeing them have fun, to that warm affection of seeing Chisato and Takina's relationship bloom, to the nail-biting excitement of the action scenes, it really was a great ride. I think it's too easy to dismiss this as just another good show when you don't pay attention to the sheer quality of the production, but I'm glad to see it does get all the appreciation it deserves.

Shoutout to A-1 Pictures for the amazing dialogues!! It's the same studio that makes Kaguya Sama - Love is war, and if you've ever watched that show, you know that they're amazing at creating dynamic and fluent dialogues with a great tempo that feels very natural.

The self-explanation i end up with about chisato's bullet dodging skills, is that she focuses in the finger, so she moves right before the finger triggers the gun. This only explains the sincronicity she gets with semiauto guns, but no full auto. Anyways, great anime, i liked it a lot too.

i feel that if there is another season, they cant possible top this season, which will make it pale in comparison and end up "disappointing". this season did everything perfectly, especially the end. it utilises so much setup from previous episodes, personal and external stakes for both chisato and takina, a great villain that looks like fucking webtorre

RWBY Ice Queendom have a similar theme and characteristics vibe as a example, but has more emphasis on action than slice of life in a school. Or there is assassins in a slice of life anime in a high school/academy theme, take your pick. I enjoy opposite themes mix together in order to expand the world/mood.

to be honest I never really thought the story was anything special but was fun. Everything else other than that was absolutely great (I also agree it's some of the best voice acting I've seen.) I guess I wish the ending was a bit... better as it didn't really make me feel anything and I do wish that the villain had a bit more character than "I strive for equality and am a crazy guy with strong morals." Though I don't think they were a couple at all... they are simply very close friends
I do agree on the story part that it's not anything special (it's good enough) but I thought that all the aspects like character chemistry and voice acting carry the show so hard tha. Though I disagree with the ending part. I thought a happy light hearted ending with their usual bantering was a nice way to ending it and I was smiling the entire time. I guess perhaps some people wanted a more dramatic ending with crying or something, which I do kinda understand, but I thought the cute ending fitted the theme of the whole show more. I do agree that Majima isn't exactly a deep villain though he was fun af lol

Fun video and I completely agree. While my anime circle is all up on Bocchi as anime of the year, I'm like "Recoil though" (Bocchi is really good too, don't get me wrong).
I really hope the industry doesn't take away the lesson of "gay girls with guns" though, because that sounds like a great way to get a shallow carbon copy that misses the entire soul of the work
