1990, the year my grandad died. He was the owner of Brammer’s butchers in Mill Street. The church at the top of the 108 steps was where my mum and dad married in 1956.
Chestergate hadn't been pedestrianised for that long here, I remember when it was still road and pavement and it was a nightmare trying to shop down there especially in the rain.
I'm making a documentary about a software company that started in the Macclesfield area in the early 1990s. Would I be able to use some of your footage of the town for establishing shots?
What was this filmed on?...I've lived in macclesfield for 10 years I'm 34...I was 4 when you filmed this its looks pretty much the same aside from the shitty cars lol
WOT u mean there is no MACCY MACCY MACCY being yelled out at 4pm in the morning anymore from the boys going home after drinking stoppy backs all night?
The town has lost its character now. Over a hundred pubs gone since 1980 all useful businesses gone local services gone in favour of take always vape and betting and booze shops and homelessness. All the sense of community has disappeared since 1980s along with most of its independent businesses. Cultural enrichment is taking over.
