The worst part is that Edda was the one who warned them about rushing in. EDDA WARNED THEM! She tried so hard to keep them safe, bit they just didnt pay attention.
As a tank main, this story is why i hate it when healers and dps try to do big pulls. Like seriously, if you want to do big pulls just let me know. And provided the healer is ok with it and can keep up.
@@liquidgoose9730Unlike in universe, Dying isn’t that bad, often times some of the mobs will die so you have less next time. Also, if healers and dps are pulling ahead of you in the first place, it almost always means you are not doing a good job as tank, especially in the case of healers, if they are pulling ahead of you, it usually means they are desperate to do something besides spamming glare. Wall to wall pulls are generally considered the default by the community with a few exceptions, if you want less, you should be the one to ask.
Its always the healer. Jokes aside, after doing alot of potd, Edda has a special place in my heart. A sad and dark story of how verbal abuse and loss can lead to a road of depression, anxiety and fear and the psychological effect it has on the mind.
They say the tragedy of many early adventurers, similar to Edda’s party, is a common sight. Dead party members, fractured relationships. Sad to see it was but the first stepping stone to the path of her tragedy. That’s not common. That’s what makes it even worse. It could have happened to anyone, but it was her.
It's something that fascinates me. During the quest that takes you to Sastasha you meet three novice adventuring groups. I definitely want to make videos about the other two. ~ReiRei
The answer to Edda's fall is obvious enough if you pay attention in Tam Tara Hard. There's a pseudo midboss creating a barrier early on in the dungeon: Dantalion. It's a voidsent based on an actual demon in the Book of Solomon, able to assume the face of any person and teach the arts of any craft, for it knows the hearts of people and can change them to fit his needs. It's clear a voidsent possessed Avere's head while they were still in the Deepcroft and whispered to Edda while she was vulnerable and alone.
Always felt bad for Edda, cause it was clear from the start that Avere was pretty verbally abusive towards her. Paiyo Reiyo was never exactly nice but he was definitely the only one who wasn't entirely against her. I figured it was supposed to be a reference to typical MMO behavior where mistakes are blamed on the healer (after all, that's a common meme even in FF14's community) but every time I saw them it was just worse and worse for her. I don't feel bad about Avere's death because he kinda deserved it for his arrogance, but it was pretty weird that Edda kept his head in a bag like that. I wish we could've shown her how bad he was and convinced her to move on, but she was obviously blindly in love with him. It would've been nice to even temporarily recruit her into the Scions, even if she did end up dying like most of the NPCs in the Waking Sands, because at least then she wouldn't have gone down such a dark path
Edda's story is one of the saddest tales in FFXIV imo. On my first playthrough I didn't actually connect all the dots until much later, but going back and seeing it play out again on an alt with actual knowledge of what was to come, I wished that our WoL had the chance to properly comfort or encourage her down a better path or something when she approaches us to tell us how much she admires us. Instead we just smile and nod like a dummy (as usual lol) and she walks away... and we all know how that ends. :(
Such a sad tragic tale. A girl with all the hope and dreams one could have shattered multiple times in the most brutal fashion. All she wanted to do was find love (even though it was an abusive relationship he basically bullied and manipulated her the entire time) and help people and she had it ripped away from her and it drove her into madness. In a way it reminds of Anakin Skywalker that was willing to do anything to ensure the love of his life stayed alive only to have the exact opposite to happen. She dedicated her life to trying to bring back the man she loved but all it got her was more despair until the WoL freed her of her maddening prison
Edda's Story is honestly heartbreaking, and the fact that so few people actually know about it is really sad. It is one of the stories that got me hooked into FFXIV in the first place, how even while the WoL is going through all the world ending things, there are also other stories going on in the background. This is a great video and a very good Retelling~!
Edda's tale is still one of the most messed up stories in FFXIV. There have been several takes on it but I definitely love your presentation. Keep it up guys!
I regret not paying more attention to this side story several years back. I was selectively skipping non-MSQ cutscenes back then and I missed such a great and dark storyline. This video really helped fill in the blanks to see the big picture. Thanks!
This story is also why as a tank main, i hate it when DPS tries to do big pulls without asking. Seriously, if you want to do big pulls, at least let the party know and check if both the tank and healer are cool with it.
I know there is like a bizzaro group that you can find after completing sastasha hard, and HONESTLY I always wanted to have some type of interaction with them after i completed POTD.
The weird mirror group can be found on the way to Sastasha during the Sastasha Hard unlock quest It's Probably Pirates in the same spot as you first enounter Edda. You can see them here: ruclips.net/video/GqptJai1Gck/видео.html ~ReiRei
hee hee, I love how this was just like a Twilight Zone episode!!! You do a good Rod Serling cadence! Edda and this quest is probably one of my favorites in ARR - I happened to do Good King Moggle Mog on Halloween, and then a friend of mine told me to do Tam-Tara Deepcroft Hard. It was a really strong early memory. Thank you for laying it all out again!
Honestly one of my favorite blue sidequests and it's from ARR, it also helps that the entire Tam Tara dungeon evokes a similar feeling to the Scourge from Warcraft with the various horror stories like Scholomance. I didn't get to finish PotD so I didn't know about a whole plot with a master Necromancer lurking beneath, but at least the pieces make sense now.
That was part of the motivation for making this. I know there are certain aspects that it's incredibly easy to miss so I wanted to have the whole story in one place. For an entirely complete version with no narration there's ruclips.net/video/GqptJai1Gck/видео.html over on our other channel FFXIV Archived. ~ReiRei
When I first ran into this group I was like 'oh it'd be so cool if they were our NPC buddies, I guess they're not though cos there's four of them. I wonder if they'll join us later-oh.'
I remember this side story. The part where Avare dies in the MSQ was the moment I realized FF14 was going to be darker than I expected. And even then I was shocked at Tam Tara Hard shifting straight into horror territory. I never did Palace of the Dead though, so I was unaware that the story continues there. I wonder if it has any armor worth running for glamours then so it'd be worth running through
I discovered your channel and I'm hooked on your videos, keep them going! One small issue I have is that the girl interpreting Edda talks really fast so I don't have that much time to process what she says xD Other than that, perfect from beginning to end!
I will say this... Edda (actually pronounced "ED-dah") was abused by the entire party except the Paiyo Reiyo. Avere (pronounced "AH-veer") I believe was 21 ala a bit older than Edda. Liavinne DID, however, found attraction in that idiot. For what reason is up for everyone to decide because that goof is a nutcase. Edda is , perhaps, one of the most intriguing NPC stories in the game. Her backstory beckons to be explored upon, I say. Sweet job on the project!
Thanks, that's very interesting. Names are often pronounced differently in different places, so it's an easy mistake to make. Can you let me know the source for this so I can add it to my Edda research? Also, according to Eorzea Encyclopaedia Avere "had seen but 19 winters", which I take as authoritative. ~ReiRei
I can't say where coeffxiv got their info but her name in Japanese is written エッダ which does indeed have a pronunciation more akin to ed-da or eh-da perhaps. The pronunciation in the video would most likely be written エイダ for comparison.
