I’ve kept the original fork on my GT, I did hydraulic brakes and new chain, new pedals, new saddle, new handlebars and grips, and honestly it’s a pretty solid bike and I didn’t spend more than $1,000. I just don’t have the time for riding the trails but whenever I have a chance I have a really solid build that hasn’t failed me yet
I agree,,, the forks are budget shocks,,, the gt is a $350 Usd funds bike that is good enough for the everyday rider... Its a good enough all round thats not an aggressive down hill unit... Lets call it a part time off road'er ,,, great urban assault thrasher fun commuter good enough for the average rider who doesn't want too drop alot of coin... Fairly good hub bearings ok brakes good body ergonomics add handle bar riser Add dropper seat post Put on your favorite bike saddle The 27.5 wheels offer a soft plush ride on a variety of roads and trails... Mid quality gear set and shifters... You won't be disappointed,,, GT's hold there value and there are alot of them threw out North America... I did exactly what you mentioned on my GT. I added a Suntour Epixon air fork (w remote lock), shorter Wake stem, and converted it to a 1X8 with a 36T oval and an 11-40 cassette. It's a completely different experience now.
Change the rear wheel on the GT....... It is provided with a freewheel which can snap the axle due to the bearing race being too far from the drop out. The free hub / cassette system will not bend and break
@@titosgervacio I have a GT Aggressor Pro and currently running Schwalbe Smart Sam 2.35 tires, I don't think you can go up to 2.6 first of all the rims aren't really meant for 2.6, they will fit but you're going to get ALOT of sidewall flex when turning, which can cause the tire to come off the rim. Plus I don't think the seat stays/chain stays are wide enough, I can just barely fit the 2.35 wide tire on the back with only maybe 2 mm gap on each side between the tire and the chain stay. Probably the biggest I would go is 2.40 wide. Also if you are only using the bike for commuting on the road, you don't need wider tires, they'll just slow you down. If you reallty want wider tires then go with the 2.35 wide Smart Sam on the back (I paid $38.00 per tire) and you CAN go wider on the front, you could probably fit a 2.6 wide tire on the front, but again your going to get alot of side wall flex because the rims are so thin.

First thing I upgraded on my gt was the fork then the pedals then the grips the. Switch it to a 1x crankset

I just bought a gt aggressor. It is getting a 1x 10 drivetrain and a fork. Hydraulic brakes to follow.

The GT Avalanche or even better the GT ZASKAR would of been a better comparison vs the Roscoe. The Aggressor is more comparable to the Trek Marlin.
Love the GT but totally agree about the fork. The plastic pedals and grips had to go too!

The only bad part is the fork. Easy to upgrade. But if you’re only riding XC trails the fork will work ok.
