Very interesting topic!
Most bikes with windshield felt louder thus less comfortable for me then nakeds (buffeting, turbulences).
My 2002 naked hornet feels relatively calm till 140 for me. My NC750S feels also calmer then the current NC750X.
When wearing tight motorcycle clothes the wind usually doesn't bother me, I might ride over 140 but mostly only for a short moment.
In rain or on highway there is of course a huge difference but these are usually exceptions for me when i ride.
The short windscreen you have shown looks also much much better for me.
Adjustable windscreen adapters like the one from bruudt might be interesting for some too. Some riders also tinkered with washer plates and longer screws so some air was able to flow under the windscreen which resulted in reduced buffeting.

Haven't yet the chance to ride Off-Road with the small screen, so far no issues with standard screen.

Just wondering if your Transalp makes a ticking noise on cold start. Mine does for the first 3-4 minutes. Once it gets up to 150 degrees F, it quiets down and seems to run fine.

Could be from the EURO 5 exhaust, has restricted the airflow, once you put a proper exhaust it will go away.
