    Thanks for sharing your experience with the bike. Had my Transalp 750 over 4 months now. Kept mine pretty basic with quick shifter, heated grips, hand guards, 12v socket plus the tank knee pad graphics and wheel rim graphics.
    I’m happy. Comfy. Good fuel economy. Love the dash.
    Going to opt for a centre stand due to regular cleaning from regular UK riding.
    I use it to commute and for leisure rides.
    Took my bike 1700 miles for the tyre noise to stop despite correct pressures used.
    I chose the Black colour as I just loved the stealth look. That’s subjective of course but I’m glad I did.
    It’s likely to be the bike that I will own the longest of any bike I’ve had. 👍

      Perhaps it's a stupid question, but does the tyre noise reappears every time you change them, or is it just a problem with the stock tyres?

    Another comprehensive report - thorough and easy to listen to, as ever. I largely agree with your observations, now at just over 3,000 kms on mine here in South Australia, although I did find some of the criticisms a little harsh, given the price of the thing. The vibrations, or 'tingles', I have found have 'attenuated' (gotta love a Vlogger with a vocabulary!) over this distance, and are quite tolerable to me. There IS actually some rubber isolation/insulation at the base of the handlebar risers; if you grip the base of one with your fingertips, and 'work' the end of the 'bars up and down with your other hand, you will feel some rubber swelling under your fingers. So the tingles are in spite of Honda at least making some effort there. And incidentally, to me the steering feels much better with those risers reversed, such that the 'bars are in a better alignment with the actual steering.
    That was almost a breakthrough discovery for me, and really improved its 'feel'.
    The fuel level indicators are, again, less than ideal, but I have taken some comfort from Honda's assurance (owners manual) that once the last bar starts flashing, we still have 3.7L remaining in the tank - about 80 kms. Its range of 400 kms I find acceptable, and the economy, as you mentioned, remarkable. Of course the blinker switch placement will always trouble those of us with other bikes, and the lack of an ambient temperature reading is an annoying oversight, although they may claim the sensor would have added to the very reasonable price of the bike. Perhaps that can be added later as an upgrade, but yes - its absence is puzzling.
    Tubed tyres, and low-rent suspension? We bought the bike knowing about these, and I am sure the suspension can be improved, and for me that cost was factored in when purchasing. Some improvement may be able to be wrought with the forks just by experimenting with fork oils, as they are 'separate function', but the rear unit will eventually be replaced with something better (as with many bikes!). But I have found the bike improved with those risers reversed, and the heavy rear rack removed. Tubed vs. tubeless tyres a longer discussion, but there are pros and cons for both. In the meantime, the tubed tyres contribute to its killer price. Tubeless tyres cannot always be repaired at the roadside, such that (without a bead breaker) you may be really stuck if you were on your own, for example.
    But I have so far found it a good value bike, which - as you say - almost 'does everything'. I don't find it completely lacks soul, in spite of my 50 years of Ducatis, and in fact it seems to me to have a surprising level of character for a Honda. It also has the subtle virtue of being happy at any speed, unlike many others. Having to go back to fifth to overtake at open road speeds is no bother to me - it is a 750, not an 1100 - and yes, the sixth gear is really an overdrive.
    Thanks again for your detailed reports.

    Hi, for fuel I use the option to show in the dashboard the number of liters consumed, I find it very realistic and is give us almost exactly the fuel already "burned" by the Transalp.

    • @johntapley2549
      @johntapley2549 9 месяцев назад +4

      There's also an option to show fuel consumed on reserve. So reserve is .73gal and you can watch the dash slowly reach that figure.

      @@RocketMan_Moto it would show as 3.3L if your bike is set to KPH (metric). I'm in the UK (mph) so it shows it as gallons. The option is called Res Fuel Cons page 42 of the owners manual. It normally shows ---- until the low fuel light comes on and then shows what you've used since reserve started. It's not ideal, a range till empty would be far more useful.

  • @papertiger795

    Yeah, in the US we only get the downtuned, black edition... But we do get the quickshifter as standard. And after running the numbers through an online currency calculator... The US MSRP is $1760 cheaper in the states than the UK.
    That price difference allows the US consumer to modify and kit out the Transalp completely, for the same price the UK consumer leaves the dealership with a completely stock bike. I'm personally more than okay with that compromise. Thank you Honda.

    After 4 months owner of the Transalp, the only negative point that i can remark is the efficiency of the head light. When i say negative points i mean issues that can not be known BEFORE buying the bike. I knew that there is no cruise control or the Range gauge, so i can't be complained for things like them. Hopeful, in the next days i will receive the SW Motech crash bars (ordered at end of August!), and it will be possible to add extra lights, because in the dark you have two zones of light. One zone is 2 meters in front of you, after that a dark gap of about 4 meters and then the second light zone which at any case is not sufficient lighting for night riding. At the end, i still haven't used to the horn button

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  9 месяцев назад +4

      Yes, I've heard from several people that the headlight is disappointing, but tbh I find most bikes have terrible lights anyway. One more reason I rarely venture out after dark.

    • @Luk4s7St
      @Luk4s7St 9 месяцев назад +3

      Seems I’m one of the owners who are fine with front light of TA. I maxed rear spring preload (still not at 30% of SAG) and then properly adjusted front light using upper screw on the back of the lamp. I rode it just Today in the dark and rainy forrest roads - no issue at all. Sure, it would be nice to have even more light but 60-80km/h was not a problem. My reference point is a modern SUV with led lights so TA is for me not bad at all!

    • @ride-fly-dive
      @ride-fly-dive 9 месяцев назад

      I did all the same. There was a slightly improvement, but generally i am not satisfied from the final result. In city roads with low speeds it is ok. But riding on the highway at night, i always have that feeling of unsafe condition. Furthermore, it is always different result riding alone in comparison with a passenger. Extra lights is the perfect solution. My critic comes as i still have fresh in my mind the efficient double LED headlights of my previous bike Honda Varadero@@Luk4s7St

      Hi, Martin. I'm doing a group ride over in your neck of the woods tomorrow. The V7 looks nice, but it's a bit old and doesn't really have much power for carving up bends, imo. The Transalp is surprisingly good at that and can also take a fair bit of luggage. Also, there's a Honda dealer in Tavira, whereas with MG you're looking at going all the way over to RS in Lagos :)

      @@RocketMan_Moto Thanks for the swift reply, RM. Yes, the Moto Guzzi looks great, and fans talk about character too, but I'm not 100% convinced. Unfortunately, I don't have my bike here. I don't live here full time, I tend to come for three months of the winter. I love this town, quiet, unassuming yet it has everything you might need. The Honda NC 750X seems popular around here, at least I've seen quite a few parked up around the place. I was talking to a man who road his new Transalp all the way from Austria the other day with luggage and a passenger; said it just ate the road, not a bother. It was the same colour as yours too. If I see a group of bikers around the town tomorrow I'll approach, and with a bit of luck you might be amongst them. 🏍👍

From what i could see when i placed mine next to it. Obviously different linkage. And the front fender. But anyways my plan is suspension upgrade during this winter. Change battery as you can shave kgs with that. Different tires etc. The abs has a surcuit you can take out. Not tried that my self. But seen others do it. And it starts and rides. I have tube valve bend in my jacket pocket so no issue with that. Hitting 9000km very soon. Not a single issue yet. Loving the bike.

    We never had any of these gizmos in the old days. When you ran out of fuel you had a reserve tank operated by a fuel switch under the tank. Easy, but you had better find a garage sharpish. The point is you don't need all the bling to make a bike enjoyable. All you need is a good engine, chassis, cycle parts and reliability. I'm on my third Transalp now having owned the two previous incarnations. They are great bikes and this one is no different. My only minor gripe is the twitchy low-speed throttle response. Oh yes, and the seat is a little hard.

Still, Honda has used low-budget parts on several machines and the finish of the wiring is not always perfect either. Hi there, thanks for this review. Totally agree- I just reached 10K on this bike and I do share every bit of comments you made here. The only main issue with this bike is, IMHO, ..torque. or the lack of it. This is where the 92 HP of the Transalp have nothing to do with the 102 HP of the AT. As I already reported here, I tried the Africa Twin during the maintenance of my Transalp, and this is a world of difference. This Transalp has clearly the same DNA as the Hornet...which is a roadster and needs to be considered as such: fun after 7.000 rpm. and this is not my style of riding. So yes..Transalp is a keeper unless you want some fun which is what I believe the new AT might offer..or, perhaps, the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio. I'm considering those bikes as we speak, adding of course the new BMW 1300 GS but, as you rightly mentioned, this is another league. take care and thanks again for the excellent review.

    Still not ridden the Transalp but can't help but feel like there should be an equivalent to the V-Strom 800RE for this bike. That Suzuki is also much closer in price to the Transalp and has better brakes and suspension in exchange for lower top-end power. Having ridden the V-Strom 800DE I can't help but feel like the 800RE is perhaps the sweet spot as someone who only has a casual potter on dirt roads every so often, but we'll see once I've gotten more test rides in. Also intrigued to see what you reckon of the new Scrambler 400X, seems like a sweet little bike.

I mention this because the trend here in the states seems to be trying to get to the destination as fast as possible and definitely not my cup of tea.

    Nice video and I tend to agree with your observations. The stain on the gold rims is apparently due to the welding and how it reacts to the anodising process. There are handlebar dampers where the extenders touch the top yoke, they do seem quite solid though. Putting the usb socket under the seat is pointless, most other bikes have an accessory socket as standard near the dash. An adjustable screen would be nice.

Love the bike all round winner, as a day / weekend rider I favour it over my Multi. I’ve changed the rear shock (400 euros) and it’s transformed the bike on the road, only limit now is the tyres. I prefer tubeless tyres and plan ti convert the rear over the winter. 200 miles day would be my limit. Good fuel consumption and difficult to get it under 50 mpg unless running over 80 on motorway. The problem with changing a bike after such a short length of time is that you lose so much money on it. Unless you really hate it, of course, a few years will get the benefit. The earliest I've parted with a machine is two years. That way, the early losses are at least balanced by the enjoyment I've had from it. The Indian FTR, Z900RS and V100 are definitely keepers. If I sell the big Zed, I've had five years out of it, so it owes me nothing.

    This time I had one with a mileage of 1 km. And I didn't feel any vibrations. None. Has Honda improved anything? Does it depend on the copy?
    The biggest disadvantage of the Transalp are its tube tires and a very cheap suspension. Unfortunately, you can feel it.
    Transalp's best competitor seems to be the motorcycle you didn't mention - the Tuareg. More expensive but definitely more advanced.
    Americans have 10 km less (noise standards?), but it may not matter at all because the highest power is achieved by this motorcycle at really high revs. In everyday driving, torque is definitely more important.

    As a transalp owner i completely agree with your opinion. Its a fantastic bike and i cant really say much negative about it for the price. But it misses character. Ive had many bikes that im just dying to ride and that really excite me everytime i do, and while the transalp is a good bike, im not that excited riding it and i find myself using it much less often than some other models ive had. Im waiting to see what gets announced at eicma, im mainly interested in the yamaha tracer 9gt. lets see if they give it a facelift/single dash. I'm a 2022 Honda CB500X owner. I've got mine adorned with all the aftermarket and Honda accessories I wanted, then the TransAlp came out! After looking at many reviews on RUclips I've decided this is not worth the extra $10K+ Can. dollars that it would cost me. For the money my little 500 is hard to beat. No bike is perfect or fills all the desires of the rider completely. Having said that, I await the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio. It looks like my kind of bike! • @blackskunk54
    @blackskunk54 9 месяцев назад

    The OEM bars don't add any vibration for me.
    I find that you have to work the gears more than on other bikes.
    The power is plenty enough for my needs. It looks like your roads have a lot less traffic than in the UK so maybe that is why you prefer more power.
    Here they keep reducing the speed limits due to race bike riders being reckless.
    I don't have any problems with the switchgear apart from it being almost impossible to find the horn when some jerk decides to pull out or change lane without looking.
    Tubeless tyres are useless if you damage the rim whilst out riding, which is more likely off-road. Don't want Cruise Control.
    I have had a bike with tubeless tyres where the rim has rotted from the inside causing slow punctures. The only way around that was to have it sand blasted and repainted as it was so bad. Instead I just sold the bike. Very annoying.
    Improvements?, Better graphics or none at all, not keen on the graphics on the white even though I have one. Plain red or blue would be good. Range and Air Temp, as discussed.
    Put the horn where it is quickly accessible. Larger more distinctive twin headlights like the AT. Reduce the gloss of the dash a bit.
    Other than that more torque would be nice.
    After all that I am more than happy with the bike. But, having ridden the Suzuki 800DE I found it more fun and am gonna try the 800RE next week hopefully.
    Might give the Himalayan 450 a demo soon as well, just to compare notes you understand...ahem!
