Man, you have balls of sold rocks handling that bobcat that way. I would have let the cat go too, but would have restrained it first. Mad props to you pulling that off like that. So sorry about the loss of your flock too.
He did a rather good job for an untrained individual. You did my cat keeper soul alot of good. If I manage to run into you someday claim yourself a beer.
If you run hydraulic hose through some pvc pipe and double it around you can make a noose to go around the neck and pin their head down while you free the foot and then you can carry the cat out with it and it can’t get close to you… it’s the cheap version we’ve always used on the farm for coyotes and foxes in foot traps
Justin I absolutely no exactly how you feel about loosing all your chickens!! I went threw the same thing for several years!!! I lost hundreds and yes I said that Wright hundreds and hundreds maybe thousands of chickens, quail, pheasants, and other birds that I actually hatched out my self!! I have a big cabinet incubator that I filled hundreds of times and hatched out 85% to 90% of all the eggs that was in it every time I did a batch of eggs in it!! Justin I can’t believe that you let that bobcat live!!! There is no way even all the way to my hart I couldn’t let a bobcat go let alone any animals that ate my chickens!! I actually snared over a half a dozen foxes a few coyotes several coons and definitely some possums!!! Good luck on your revenge on the wild animals and I definitely hope by letting that bobcat go that doesn’t come back to bite you in the rear latter!!! Awesome video Justin!!! And that was definitely a brave move on that bobcat you did for sure!!!
I love your channel your family, and your compassion. Your story just gets bigger. Never stop being you! I believe that is why with all the things you have had to deal with in this life. nThe way you react to them ensures you'll continue to be blessed beyond anything you could have imagined. Reep what you sew! What you did for that cat to me was a really big thing. To me it shows how special you are. You are deserving of all things you are blessed with and I pray that God will continue to bless you and your family for all of your days. What a solid person you are.
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. 😞. I know how much they meant to all of you, and loved how Emmie & Penny were developing a bond. Justin!…I was SO frightened for you once the bobcat was released and you were both in the cage (with what looked like the door mostly closed 😲) that I instinctively screamed, “Justin!!” at the TV - as if you could hear me. You’re a brave man…and a kind one too for not permanently punishing the bobcat for what the raccoon did. Again, I’m so sorry for y’all!
Much respect for your love of animals sir. Being a fellow Texan (west of dfw), we love all the critters…even the edible ones lol good showing of a true sportsman. Hit me up if you ever let some random dudes go fishing with ya!
This video was great. If you're serious about keeping chickens you have to use electric wire. Predators will check your defenses every night without fail. That shock takes the mustard out of them for sure.
I feel like you handled the whole situation (as sad as it was) perfectly... the opossum needed to go. the raccoons will be table food soon. I think you are correct and it is good Karma to let the cat go.. not gonna lie I was riveted to the screen watching you try to let it loose. glad you did. This was another amazing video!!!!
Don’t feel too bad, Flair has gone through 19 chickens, 587 pigeons, 179 Quail, 22 Geese, an Ostrich, 5 Blue Jays, and the entire Angry Birds app in the amount of time you’ve had your chicken
I like the way you took the mistake on the chin and let the bobcat go because it only took advantage of a opportunity that it may never have again. Salute to you
Thanks for releasing that Bobcat and appreciating it's life and purpose, it will do a lot more good than harm. We all make mistakes, don't beat yourself up about it. Live and learn! Now I want to see some night vision coon hunting! Payback is coming! MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

Thank you for letting the Bobcat go. Out here in Southern California they are practically a protected species. In my area they help control the rodents that breed like wildfire in good years.
Bobcats don't control rodents. Canines are much better at controlling rodents. Bobcats don't even put a dent in rodent populations. They are also not a protected species in California. California has hunting seasons on them. They can also be taken out if they are considered a threat to your property or pets.
Just a quick snaring tip from a fellow trapper, your snare loop was a little too oblong (aim for 6-7 inch diameter circle) and the bottom of the loop needs to be off the ground about 3-4 inches. When an animal goes through the snare, the pressure put on the bottom part of the loop is what will cause the snare to slide shut. But that cannot happen very well when the loop is resting on the ground or the loop is too large.
I'm glad you didn't stay up all night on a stake out. That bobcat might have gotten a different greeting. I know you were mad at the raccoons and frustrated with yourself. I think because you talked to Mrs. LFG and slept on it you didn't make a rash decision. I'm a Vet Tech and I will send you a snare pole. We have plenty!!! You are one of my favorites and that situation could have gone sideways very quickly. Great footage but risky business. Merry Christmas and Happy Hunting those raccoons!!!
Sorry for the loss of the chickens.🙁 It was awesome of you to release the bobcat as you said he wouldn't kill all the chickens as a fox. It will be nice to see Emmy raise the new roost of chickens!!! Have a Merry Christmas & Blessed New Year!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
Oh I’m so sorry about your chickens 🙁. I know how much Emmy loved them but I’m glad you let the bobcat go. It wasn’t his fault. Merry Christmas and a much happier New Year!!
Your cahoonas are bigger then mine! HUGE! haha, Wow. ... A friend of mine has a domestic house cat (that's mean to everyone but him) and it scares the hell out of me. Ain't no way I could deal with that Bobcat like you did. I do agree to turn him loose though. He's just following instinct for a meal. Coons on the other hand, can be cute, but so vicious too. I had one kill my neighbors cat on my porch over one night. The cat, Todd, was a house cat, but roamed at night. He was a great mouser. Was also a great porch buddy for me of an evening. He would always get on my lap if I would sit in the chair to watch the sun set. Very friendly and vocal. You would "talk" to it and it would "meow/talk" back as if he understood you. haha. Broke my heart one morning I went to go to work and there he was dead on the walkway off the porch with clear coon tracks in the dirt. ... RIP Penny and the flock. Hopefully one will stray back home, but doubtful.
Glad you let the Bobcat go. Good on you. It just took advantage of an opportunity you gave it. Sorry for the loss of your chickens and hope Emmy is ok. Tough life lesson but ultimately a good learning experience for her. Merry Christmas to all!
If you throw your coat or something over the bobcat it will typically calm right down and you can release it much easier. (I have done it many many times).
So sad, can never let your guard down when you have chickens. Sorry this happened, but spring is coming and baby chicks will be everywhere. Cycle of life can be tough. Good teaching moment for Emmy!
I am so sorry Justin! It's heartbreaking. I lost 5 chickens to my neighbor's pit bull pup. I don't mean the dog any harm and my neighbor fixed the fence where he got in and offered to get me more chickens in the spring. I told myself I wouldn't get attached and I have named every single one lol. Totally understand where you are coming from. Also massive respect for handling that cat that way. She was pretty and a crucial part of the ecosystem. Good on you for letting her go.
Just subscribed today, found your channel because my MRI results last Monday( 12/20/2021) showing I having tumor such as yours is/was. Thanks to you and your wife for filming the experience of brain surgery, its helping my wife and I cope with the diagnosis and expectations going forward. Regards, Dale Sr.

Some fellow chicken farmer comments. First leave a light on near or in the coop or both, the chickens have a chance then to run, fly or escape. Two the Bobcat will drag the corpse off and just off your property will sit and chew off the legs, not taking more than two a night. So the dead chickens are not from the bobcat or the fox. All I can say Justin is you’re a much better man than I am. That bobcat would been history as far as I am concerned. I would have my kids in my mind re dispatching it. Da cat wouldn’t have left under its own power, my 22 would say goodbye and then had it mounted with the story behind it to tell friends & family. Going to be interesting to see the raising of a new flock. Merry Christmas to you and the family!

Been there bro. Lost 32 chickens in 12 months. Coyote, fox, raccoon, opossum, skunk. Could not keep them out. Ended up building a 20×30×8 chicken pen. With 4×4 Posts, and a flat roof frame. Covered the sides and top with chicken wire. The wire was clamped to each other every 4 in. Then I put a 4ft chain link fence all the way around the pin. Then mowed the grass down to the ground and put 2ft wide piece of chain link fence flat on ground and up against the one on the wall and wired it together ever 12 "" and let the grass grow back through the fence. Then put a latch on the door at the bottom and one at the top. To keep it from being pryed open. That was 2 years ago and have lost a total of....0 so far. Down side ... It cost $ 2,000
Flair would have blinded him by the light 😅😂
And then eaten it 😬

Extremely difficult decision. Mad respect to you. RIP Rackley Roost . Tons of good karma are in order here.

Bummer, man. That was a good thing you did for the bobcat. I'm not sure I could have maintained the camera like you did, Mr. Brass Balls. Lol.
As flair would say i would have “blinded it by the light” no sense in risking it killing the neighbors or your new chickens.
