Honestly, the best part about the story of DS3 is how it portrayed the Tau Volanthians. We come across them, thinking they were the OG creators of the markers... only to find out they were just another victim of their influence. What we thought was gonna be them ruining the cosmic horror aspect of Dead Space actually turned out to be them adding more to it, cuz nothing screams "Cosmic Horror" like introducing a dead race of far more advanced aliens that could not escape the galactic horrors that currently plague humanity. It helps to enhance that sense of hopelessness and dread.
The Tau aliens and the military base personnel both sacrificed themselves too to prevent the new moon from forming. Aliens froze the planet Humans off'd everyone and destroyed any research / most research and the key activator to prevent the device from unfreezing the planet. In a way adding a little bit of hope where sacrifices doe the greater good.
I think that last quote from Serrano “Its all Dead Space” came as a perfect title drop and enbody the cosmic horror that the series achive, still gives me chills. Such a shame is in DS3
I like the alternate version of DS that you proposed, making the team of people who got in contact with the markers is actually lore friendly since it’s stated that only certain people could fight the marker influence. I always saw the story of Dead Space very similar to evangelion with a unique protagonist that refuses to fulfill his destiny in the middle of a very chaotic universe
And yeah certain people like the unitology prophet that was actually a cover up by earthgov since the dude destroyed the original marker on earth at the bottom of the sea i think.
I remember hating the story of this game the first time I played through it solo. It was so dumb and jarring how Carver only existed in cutscenes and would always find a flimsy excuse to abandon Isaac as soon as it shifted to gameplay. It made it really hard to take it seriously when they tried to act like friends. I actually enjoyed my second playthrough in co-op much more. That's clearly how the game was meant to be played. I wish they would have just changed the story completely for the single-player campaign and written Carver out of it or something. He so obviously exists only to justify a second player being able to join at any moment that it really hurts immersion.
Definitely. Resident Evil 6 had forced co-op too, but at least your partner was a bit so you didn’t miss out on the story. Single player in Dead Space 3 felt like the lesser version of the game.
@@cappedminer369 You mean like how they did RE4 with Leon’s main campaign and Ada’s Separate Ways campaign? It would have been certainly at least more interesting than having an “supposed partner” constantly dipping out.
@@TheGary108 not exactly, since in the original RE4 was already like this and the game design never intended for coop. Leon has his campaign, Ada had hers.
It still baffles me to this day that if Dead Space 3 had to be turned into a COOP game, why Isaac was given a completely unfamiliar and uninteresting character like John Carver (the name alone could hardly be more generic) instead of Ellie.
For real though, the first few chapters where you are in space going from ship to ship with the zero gravity. In that small exploration area was fantastic, it was still quiet and isolated enough to feel like a horror game. I would've loved a full game done that way.
If 3 was just set in the ship graveyard with a quasi-open setting and a full story taking place there like they had in the Terra Nova, it would have been amazing.
@@KevinHelpUs Hard agree. I feel like barring the copy-pasted environments it was easily some of the best world design I've seen in the series since the remake of the original that fleshed out the "lived in" feel of the classic Ishimura.
4:43 "They are no longer asking you to make them whole, they are making the holes themselves." I split myself in half laughing, such a great line! Earned my sub immediately!
The 'Am I a good man part' is a great reason to keep Carver and build upon him. But hearing that dev say he would have preferred that Ellie was the co-op partner has given me a radical idea for a DS3 remake: make all three of them playable. Split the games chapters among the three of them. Give Ellie her own badass suits, give each character a signature weapon (Isaac's plasma cutter, Carver's rifle, Ellie's... screwdriver). Make co-op optional whilst not forcing single player to miss those areas, maybe by making the Isaac/Carver/Ellie NPC companions for the duration of the side mission.
From a story perspective, Ellie does more to drive the plot forward than Isaac and I wish the game recognized that more. Adding her in for co-op missions would have been great.
Yup A dev had a hateboner for her or something because Where she was a badass shoot first survival woman pilot in DS2 In DS3 she was more akin to a damsel in distress When the unitologist had her at gunpoint for the activation key i was like Wut? Cmon Ellie PUNCH THE GUY or something to break free Reminds me of what happened with Bioshock infinite. They told the dev team no go for their plans. So they broke cannons and made BS 1 and 2 non cannon as a middle finger to how much they hated BS infinte.
@@fumothfan9 Agreed, what happen to Ellie in 3 legitimately is one of the biggest issues I have with the game barring Norton being a useless asshole. Most of the other story bits are fine but Ellie pretty much got her character from the previous game assassinated. You legitimately could give Ellie her own game or hell even a movie about the hellish outbreak she survived through on the Sprawl (which she slowly lost all of her crewmembers too) and her subsequent attempts to stop other necromorph outbreaks afterwards. She should of been a character that was far more active in the plot and been fighting with the rest as well.
PTSD is a hell of a horrible thing to deal with. I feel you. I also suffer from it and it made me a toxic mess for years. I meant well but couldn't do well. I hurt people around me, I built personalities to please people while distancing myself from the risk of being disliked for who I really was. I hurt so many people, be it small mistakes or huge fuck ups. Thanks for this video, thank you for opening your heart, thanks for sharing and making others feel less alone when their brain fights to keep them alone, not because of malice but because of fear of being hurt.
Excellent work! And I appreciate you adding your vulnerability to your videos. You are very genuine and passionate. It makes me wanna sit, have a chat and talk about life with you. I hope the best for you. Can't wait for the next video!
I didn't expect that to be so inspiring. It's never comfortable addressing one's own shortcomings & identifying the root causes of our behaviors, especially when we feel we are not at fault. Healing & growth come from accepting the consequences of our actions & acknowledging the role we played in the damage around us... not only in our relationships with others, but to our own self as well. It took a lot of courage to share your story so that it may help those who also struggle. You did well. Keep it up, man. Im glad I clicked your link and i'll gladly subscribe.
Man, the part near the end about not being a good partner, reminded me of a similar situation I went thru, glad you guys were able to be friends still. Wish I had that kind of connection with my ex still.
The funniest thing about Dead Space 3, for me, is how the game opens with you escaping a Necromorph outbreak on the Moon's colony and almost nobody even seems to acknowledge it happened. It's the closest Necromorph outbreak from Earth since Altman found the Marker in the Yucatán Peninsula, there's an active Marker spreading its influence on the people in the colony & there're violent Unitologist fanatics actively spreading the signal, but everybody is more concerned with getting away from Elton John's legion of Scientologists to find Ellie's impressive ballistics in a galaxy far far away. The games prior to 3 instilled a great urgency in not letting the wrong people bring the marker back to Earth, but in the final game where we're flung into and outbreak on the closest heavenly body to Earth? That's not actually a damn big deal, actually.
They were so focused on trying to find the source and stop it that they said we can't focus on what's happening on earth cause if we do it's game over, we need to stay focused on the mission
This video is a hidden love letter to the guys real wife because he went through the same character arch as Isaac Clarke and I think that’s pretty cool
1:48 Deadspace 3 is weird in that way. It's kinda like a plate from a buffet full of a lot of stuff that's individually great, but together it's not cohesive. The setpieces can be fun, the mood where you're out in space on these ruined ships trying to survive and floating in the void near this undiscovered planet is excellent, as is the The Thing-inspired feeling of being in a frozen wasteland surrounded by horrors. The weapon crafting is fun, and I liked building a revolver that could rip Necromorphs apart in one shot, or making ridiculous custom guns. ...The problem is that none of it makes anything cohesive. The crafting is fun, but why am I gonna make a specialized Line Gun-like tool with the timed mines when I can build a Line Gun with a _better_ launcher, or an assault rifle with a grenade launcher? Especially when that last thing lets me just smoke Necromorphs easily, taking out so much of the horror?
This version of DS3 is actually fucking AWESOME. Yes, it does remove a lot of the cosmic futility. BUT...something I've grown to appreciate is horror meant to empower. Issac's seen some shit. He stared intot he abyss...and the abyss blinked first. He's done running, he's done hiding. He's a survivor, and more than anything, that's what the Marker fears. Someone who was subjected to every horrific thing the Marker could conjure, and yet survived.
If you think about it, taking into account the planned script they had for DS4, the fact that Isaac STILL survived the end of Dead Space 3's DLC should have put the fear of god into the breathen moons, like this one guy survived every manipulation trick that you could foster to make him die, became resistant to said tricks, destroyed two markers almost on his own (one which he constructed), killed one of their own (even if it was incomplete/young) and even when you had him right where you wanted (when they invaded earth) the bastard still managed to worm his way out of it.
I love how raw you are in your videos and the way you related dead space to your life. I've always connected with Isaac as someone who suffers PTSD too, and dead space was always a comfort to me and let me know that I'm not alone in this fight. Love the content man, keep going.
It would be much more interesting if Carver was replaced with Gabe Weller. He was on Ishimura and on Titan Station. To bad he sacrificed himself in the Dead Space 2 DLC.
This may seem like a joke but trust me, I lose sleep over this question. How do the brethren moons travel across space. Surely they would need something to propel them. My guess is that they let out massive moon farts to propel them through zero G. What are your thoughts?
Most advanced technologies and organisms in media seem to have levitational powers, remember the vidocs from military jet planes seeing a object km away from them dissappear and then reaper mere seconds later only to be hundreds of km away? Imagine that but on a much grander scale for the brethren moons
Thank you for inspiring me to look at things in a better light from your own experiences. If you continue making videos, I'll continue being here with you. Thank you Kevin
Thank you so much for releasing this great video, Kevin! Dead Space 3 is running on my PC as I am writing this comment, and I’m super happy with the conclusion in this video, please keep striving through your efforts for improvement, I am rooting for you always, man 🙏✨
Grav tossing the traitor off the cliff after stomping his body was hilarious. This was a pretty good fix of the story, I would have enjoyed playing this.
Ooh man that final twist of both Isaac and Carver hallucinating their loved ones gave me chills. Loved it. P.S. don't be hard on yourself. It's easy to say but you've got to move on. Past is what its name says: Past (and Passed). My cocktail was depression and OCD with a dash of ADHD. and at some point you just get tired of being dragged down by all these wonderful handicaps.
Really a very well done analysis of DS3 and a fantastic way to wrap a rewritten story into your own experiences and trauma. I haven't been genuinely floored by a twist in a video like this in a very long time and I'm even more impressed that the message comes across in a way I feel like many can empathize with. Thank you, Kevin. I needed to see this today.
just about to start watching this video now (coming from the isaac is the villain video) but i have so much respect for you incorporating your own experiences in life and being so honest, and the best art is most always honest. take care.
Something that I feel like would break the rules but is also REALLY important to reference is our lady from severed. She was just COMPLETELY forgotten about, but someone who is straight up ACTUALLY marker immune shouldn't be dropped so quickly.
I love Carver (from a game design standpoint). Co-op Horror always has it hard, but they were on the cusp of greatness with his implementation. Asynchronous Co-op horror is a criminally underexplored genre and they could have gone so much further. I'd love to see a DS3 remake one day, where both Isaac and Carver hallucinate more and more the closer they get to the end. Imagine your friend being "overwhelmed, but you just see them shooting the air or even shooting you. the amount of paranoia this could convey is absolutely untapped potential.
I might be mistaken but I think that game GTFO has a mechanic like that, as well as the little girl in lethal company although not to as big of an extent as this idea
I'd like Dead Space 3 remake... Sort of. Not exactly. I want the original vision. Earth dies. Then Dead Space 4... A group of survivors, chased by this threat, looking for a new home world, hidden from this threat, scavenging equipment and facilities, just one step ahead of total defeat, against impossible odds, with rapidly dwindling human survivors (and you must ensure certain amount survive, in the end, to win.. and you can't know if it's enough or not, until you actually find a new home world.. because if you lost too many, humanity is too depleted to repopulate, and you have to replay again). This can go on to Dead Space 5, 6, so on, depending on how good the writing is. Would be excellent 👌
Maybe even, by Dead Space 6, you make contact with surviving two ancient galactic superpowers, what unleashed this bio weapon against one another, millions of years ago, in some long forgotten galactic war, and lost control of it, sterilizing the galaxy. They are now only shards of ancient glory, and maybe even still at war with one another, and this super weapon gone wild .. this eventually can go on into Dark Space 8, then human survivors attempt to escape the Milky Way all together, on basis of alien technology, and aliens don't exactly want to share the tech, because it keeps them secure from the threat somehow.. so humans getting it, means they get over run too. This can go all sorts of ways into Dark Space 9, so on.
Finally, as ultimate horror ending, humanity does escape, to a new galaxy.. only to bring this affliction to a new galaxy with them... That can then become basis for new set of Dead Space games, there eventually humans must return to home galaxy, to destroy the source of the threat what is now sterilizing the other galaxy.. and it can get uber dark, there in the end, humans fail, and both galaxies become dead space, with humans regressing to pre industrial era, on hidden world, traped for fear of exposure in that state.
Fantastic video Kevin, and I can only desperately hope that they remake 3 with changes significant enough to give Isaac’s story the ending it truly deserves.
Thank you! I’m not sure if a remake will happen, I feel like they’d be more inclined to make part 4 without all the baggage that comes with the name Dead Space 3, but it would be nice to see this chapter of the story told properly.
coincidentally, Dead Space 3, Killzone 3 and FEAR 3 all came out on the same year (among other 3s) and all traded the original games' atmosphere for action and co-op gameplay. Mass Effect 3 also introduced multiplayer which tied into the main story and was required to beat the game with the best ending, apparently. And guess who published that game
Despite 3 sucking, I've actually played Dead Space 3 way more than 1 or 2. The list of things that are off-beat in 3 is very long, but I would focus on changing two things. First, when you use Stasis for the first time to get across the highway, causing a massive traffic accident and Isaac nonchalantly goes "oops" is in my opinion the single most disgusting breach of tone in the series. Yeah the back-and-forth between Norton and Isaac is pathetic, but it all rests on EA-Isaac being introduced to us as a psychopathic edgelord. It's unforgivable. The second thing I'd change would be to have the final area filled with water, to substitute for zero gravity. It's a water planet with water-based aliens, and you could make a ton of compelling rooms and puzzles for thawing off sections and ensuring oxygen supply as you unlock new rooms and so on. Much later, Subnautica came along to remind everyone that underwater horror is a very powerful (and proven) concept too.
I like it! Although I think there’s a throwaway line about how those cars on the highway are all autonomous, so no one would have been injured in the pileup. (Still pretty cocky of Isaac though.)
It’s obvious that this game impacted you on a deeper, more personal level, and it warms my heart that’s what happened with you. My approach to it was much simpler. I bought and played all three games in 2020 during the lockdowns, I loved Dead Space 1, I loved Dead Space 2, and I loved Dead Space 3. This may sound insane to say, but none of the games were that strong on the story side of things, I enjoyed them more for the well-handled lore, character interactions, atmosphere, gameplay, gunplay, and sci-fi elements. I thought Dead Space 3 handled the characters no worse than Dead Space 1 or 2 did, and though Isaac’s and Norton’s bickering over Ellie was a bit annoying given the context of the story, it was easy for me to excuse their irrational behavior as the Marker’s influence. That being said, I agree with the changes you proposed, as they do help the story of the game feel more authentic (at least on paper). Ellie dying would have been tragic but also very realistic, and not something we see that often in movies and games anymore. I honestly think there’s a lot more to Dead Space and Isaac’s story after Dead Space 3, even if the Brethren Moons consumed Earth, but only time will tell if we get any possible sequels or continuations of the story once EA is finished remastering the original games (which I hope they do).
Ok ok my top 5 things thatll make DS3 better 5. Make Carvers hallucinations available for free and not just behind a paywall 4. Give people a better understanding on which pieces go to which weapon to craft 3. Flesh out Carvers backstory 2. Have it where we could potentially play back and forth between Issac and that marine at the opening of the game ( cant remember his name ) and have it where it eventually leads to where his path ends and where Issac continues from there 1. Please, please, please have it where the love triangle between Isaac, Norton and Ellie is scrapped or better yet just make it where Norton is just an associate nothing more and not some dickhead of a new boyfriend who bitches about his girls ex being in the room
I know I'm late for the party, but I'd like to share my own ideas to fix the atmosphere of Dead Space 3. Firstly, there is sound. I'm not only talking about the ambience, though everyone can agree it has always played a huge role in many games, not just horrors. But I'm talking about sounds triggered in specific situations. For starters, the necromorph sounds are still screams despite the bastards being over 200 years old. I don't think there's a way to keep anyone's voice intact for THAT long. Instead I would go for wheezing. More quiet, but it would mean the necromorphs would turn into a much more insidious threat being more capable to sneak up on you. Hell, it would make flanking the player in active combat easier for them. But even aside from that, wheezing often sounds more eerie than screams. At the very least it would probably scare me more than their screams in the end product. Another instance where sound could have been improved is the Terra Nova side mission. In short, the guy trapped in the conning tower rigged a bunch of traps and can summon necromorphs, but he chooses to play what during combat for you? Country music? Very in character for him, NOT AT ALL for what Dead Space has always tried to be. Such music is appropriate for action movie or even action comedy combat scenes, not for a horror where you constantly have to fight for your life. So I would instead implement something more cliche - human screams. The sound of an aztec death whistle should emulate those nice. You could even explain them being played by Tucker purposefully recording last moments of those who were being slaughtered by soldiers and necromorphs alike. Or by the VA system malfunctioning, I dunno. And when the screams stop scaring you, they'll probably still be a nuisance to keep you in suspense (after all it was your choice to scavenge some additional supplies). You could still use country music for the final battle at the top of conning tower and all the way back to the tram station. Not only would it be a plot twist and a way for you to have a rest and commit a slaughter with some nice music, but it could be Edwards' token of appreciation for your effort to make it all the way up to him. He'd let you die while somewhat enjoying yourself, recognizing that you're a warrior. Then there's the music played during each ride in the SK1P. Sounds great, but then again, not appropriate for a horror game. It makes you feel too comfortable while riding to the next ship or underground section, to have a rest. Horror games don't let you have a rest that often as far as I know. You could instead enjoy the eerie silence of space or some sounds indicating that what you're riding is just as decrepit as anything else around you. Hell, it's a miracle the cabin has remained airtight for 200 years. You could experience decompression in this thing on your way back to Roanoke to feel even more nervous and anxious to leave this ship graveyard. I'd keep the outer space musical theme though, so players could have a chance to switch their minds off all the horrors while scavenging. Which brings me to my next point. The explorer's spirit I have thanks to Fallout and STALKER was left disappointed by the co-op locations being inaccessible in the single player mode. So instead of walling these sections off why not let people scavenge, just without experiencing any plot additions? The increased amount of loot for co-op players could be an additional incentive for them. The fear-inducing attributes listed above could enhance something that usually makes a horror game or movie itself for me - that feeling of not being in control. My own life has made me hate this feeling. In case of Dead Space 3 it would be a reminder that you're separated from your crew after barely having spent any time with them. That it was your fault that you ended up in these circumstances by letting other people drag you into this once again. And now it's up to you to try and make it out of here alive. That being said, I am, coincidentally, into action games and movies even more than horrors. My life is full of stress as it is, so going on virtual killing sprees is my way to relax. Plus the Dead Space series has never been just about horrors for me. As a kid I was freaked out by the low-poly slashers from Dead Space mobile which was my first title of the series. But what really made me stick around despite being afraid is the aesthetics of future, spaceships, all these weapons and suits etc. And for me the suits and guns have been getting cooler and cooler from Dead Space 1 onwards. Plus I've always been a huge fan of military equipment, not utility gear, so I was thrilled to get into security suit variations in Dead Space 2 or the battle suits in Dead Space 3. And good god, I was so happy to make myself an assault rifle with and underbarrel shotgun and a sniper rifle with a missile laucher as a secondary weapon in part 3. Good times. So I hope the remake will bring the improvements I've proposed without taking away the things I already like in the Dead Space series. On a side note, a spin-off game about Carver would be awesome. Heck, I'd love to play as him just for the sake of his special forces gear and other suit variations.
If anyone hasn’t seen it yet, there’s a couple of livestreams of one of the writers for the original dead space trilogy playing through the remake with his buddy. Really fun streams to watch he talks about a lot of stuff that we fans wanted to know about such as dead space 4
I've watched a few of your videos and I must say I genuinely enjoy your content, honesty, and positive messages. Your reflections are well-thought and impactful along with how well you made the 'revisions' to DS3's storyline. Everything's fun, engaging, and immensely interesting. Looking forward to more videos with you!
I didn't like DS3 the first time I played it, but enjoyed parts of it. The second time I played it in co-op with my sister, and I was playing as Carver. That was one of the best co-op experiences I've ever had, because of the creative hallucination interjections. It was total chaos at some points with me and my sister just yelling at each other lol
i found your channel through your isaac clarke video about how him having a voice in the remake changes his character and i can say im honestly extremely surprised on how underrated your channel is, your editing is amazing and the references you make are great. on top of that your videos are extremely thorough but super easy to binge.
Bro your videos are hilarious, well edited and genuinely insightful. That message to your ex at the end was truly heartfelt and took courage. You'll be @ 100k in no time if you keep it up. Subscribed
There would be a few things I would change about the story and it would mostly revolve around Carver's. Basically all parts where you can only go in coop would be available in single player as well however any hallucination Carver has in Isaac's pov you can't see them therefore in single player you won't see what Carver sees, then in coop who plays as Carver can see it. I know it would involve having a partner with you at all times with ai but this is what it takes
I want a radical shift for DS3. Ellie and Isaac assemble a group of people touched by the markers. They all still struggle with that history, and still have visions because of it. This leads to various tensions in the group, and them having to work through the marker's influence. They still have a mole, who is someone that hasn't been touched by the marker and just lies about it. Co-op is no longer a thing. Instead, we switch perspective between multiple characters throughout the story. Sometimes you play as a character who can die if you fail a mission if you don't meet certain requirements. Your crew gets thinned out no matter what you do, so it can feel hopeless as you lose characters that were thought to be integral to the survival of the mission. Ellie and Isaac just shave by at the end, permanently altering something that the aliens before had created and they KILL OFF the brother moon species at large. They both breathe a sigh of relief, now free from marker control. It's a dumb and simple story, yes, but I'll be damned if it isn't what most people would find playable and fun. In DS2 Isaac destroys the marker. He frees himself from its influence. Then when all hope is lost, Ellie comes in and saves him, even alluding they'll be romantic partners. No one complained about it. It was spectacular and fun, and we felt like winners. Save the day, get the girl. DS3 could be a repeat of that story, even a continuation and growth of their romance, and I doubt many would complain. People want happy endings, and destroying the entire necromorph lineage would be a satisfying end to the all the pain and suffering our characters have been through.
I felt Dead Space 3 was not the best installment but it wasn't bad either. I enjoyed the chilling plot twist in that we learn the natives of Tau Volantis were just another civilization that fell victim to the Necromorphs. What's even more insane is that a writer revealed that in Dead Space 4 we would have learned there was a bigger fish, something the Brethren Moons were terrified of.
New sub here! Loved the plot changes you made and think they were solid. Also; I’m a vet and developed stress induced anxiety. Not quite the same as a trauma induced anxiety but what you said rang true to me. Being the best man I can be, whether doing what I should or simply going out in public with my family has been hard. I can feel numbness, symptoms similar to heart attacks and mood swings that are hard to tame. I’ve learned to accept my symptoms for what they are and appreciate what I have and what I can do over time, and the best ways to approach dealing with the consequences for when it gets bad. One thing I can’t ever seem to get over is feeling guilty for when it gets bad. Thankfully, my daughter and wife both understand and help me with what I need to do. Best of luck with you and your battle my friend, if you’re ever in a dark place my inbox is always open.
This re-scripting of DS3 is a great idea! Even with keeping the whole "earth dies" thing. I have for years been saying that a theoretical DS4 should be Issac doing his engineer thing. Building a solution. Earth might be gone, but so are most Unitarians. The Tau Volanthians built a machine that can pause unification; maybe it is Humanity's turn to build something that can fight back on a planet sized scale too. The ending could be some distant future alien species that are experiencing Necromorphs and they find Issac's records - plans for ships that can fight back. Planet cracking ships modified to rip parts off the Brother-Moons and destroy them piece by piece.
I love this, all of this. Thank you for sharing your vision for a better dead space 3, something desperately needed and thank you for being brave and sharing what it takes to make things right. Not everyone have role models, and you definitely are one.
I gonna leave this in here, but man, i discovered you last week, and you quickly became one of my favourite youtubers, your videos are amazing, well written and with a kinda of humor that i like, but goddamn, from all the personal information that you share, i can relate to you on such a level that is impressive, almost all of your videos that you share personal things made me wanna cry bc of that relatability. You are awesome.
I really like the personal aspects that you add to your videos... just know that you are far from alone when it comes to dealing with rough emotional stuff, props to you for being brave enough to discuss it publicly! You got a new sub for it! :) As far as DS3 goes, your story is way better! Cause it actually gives you reasons to care about all the characters, something the actual game really lacks.
I've always found it funny that revealing Rosetta was such a big thing, but the game throws alien necromorphs at you before the puzzle is complete and the reveal is done.
One of the things I didn't like is that there was not enough EarthGov. Sure terrorists this and terrorists that, but c'mon - EarthGov won against Sovereing Colonies Armed Forces, it studied markers and made copies here and there, there was an after credits scene for DS2 (I'm still salty that it didn't lead anywhere) where it was revealed that Titan station was just another site and maybe even planned accident to study the full marker activation process. EarthGov HAD to have a lot of resources and not just a one ship and one squad of people left. If it had fallen so low the whole society would've been destroyed and we saw that things were functioning normally at the start, with a lot of transport vehicles moving everywhere, with lights in windows, meaning that people were living there alright. PLUS EarthGov knew about necromorphs, since there was an outbreak in Altman times that they've been covering up ever since, so they 100% had to have a counter plan. Other than that - yeah, Ellie was supposed to die there. I was really thinking that it was a markers illusion, just as you are suggesting here. I really don't like how they butchered her character to make her a damsel in distress that can't do almost nothing without help - she was not like that in DS2 at all. I also just now realised that Isaac didn't have a character growth at all. Huh. Guess I didn't notice, since I played it with a friend from the start and we were much more interested in Carver hallucinations and differences of what were experiencing. A shame, really - this mechanic and the dlc are clearly showing that Visceral could make another masterpiece, but were not allowed to.
I just found your channel through "I Fixed The Callisto Protocol's Story" and followed that up with this one. Two things: A) I find your version of Dead Space 3 much more appealing than what we got. Meaning well when you screwed up doesn't mean a thing. You still screwed up and hurt people. B) I just wanted to say that I'm happy you still have someone in your life. I ruined a lot of personal relationships with friends and family after I left police work. I was cold and a jerk a lot of the time when I didn't realize it. Even when I really meant well and was trying to give sound advice, I came off as a dick because I didn't consider the feelings of others, only the outcomes of the courses of action they were about to take. I didn't do well. Doing better is the only way to repair what you have damaged. I wish more media understood that when attempting to make a story relating to post traumatic stress. I'm doing better now. I hope you are to.
I kinda wish Gabe Weller was alive and be the co-op partner for Isaac Clarke, more than Carver. I know he pretty much passed in his DLC back in DS2, but I felt the connection of him and Isaac being pretty much ones who survived, ever since the whole incident with the Ishimura, would’ve made for some interesting chemistry between them.
Bro you are awesome guy man. To show your love for the girl you care about. You set a DS3 ploy as a walkthrough in order to convey your love and right your wrongs. I commend you you brave man. “Good Men mean Well, they just don’t always end up doing well” I felt that. This isn’t a walkthrough it’s a love letter
how I'd fix dead space three: have the asynchronous hallucinations go two way, so that even in single player, you see hallucinations as issac. then I'd add single player only content to counter the co-op only content so that it's fair in that sense. finally, I'd add more variety to the necromorphs and their random encounters, as it just felt like zombies and slasher the whole game. to play devils advocate for carver saving ellie in the end, is because carver learned not all sacrifices are worth it, and issac learns from carver that sometimes you need to cut loose threads lest they catch a doorknob and ruin your clothes.
I believe Carver should of taken over as the main character for Deadspace 3, isaac already went through all of his development and freedom from the market, Carver however would get all the character development for the story with guidance from Isaac.
I only played this game a few times, but I actually enjoyed the co-op. I had no idea they had co-op only missions though. That seems pretty sleazy. Nicely produced video, btw! 🤘
What what I have changed about dead space 3? At the standoff between Danik and Isaac, Ellie elbows Danik, Isaac shoots him, they drop the moon, they escape using Danik's shuttle. Next game: Dead space 4: Hunting the brethren moons.
I have no PTSD and i won't act like i have, but what you said about you Ex reminded me of mine. That part about trying to be a good man, to mean well... to be better. I had a Girl that loved me, even though i was, difficult... because i was thinking i am difficult, that i am a burden... i became a burden. Now she is gonna and... one day maybe we will be friends again... but i wanna be better than that... i wanna be the true me, the one that hides under all the pain and sorrow... because it is a warm blanket that i know so why shouldn't i stay in this warm bed? Thats what she made me realise when she left me... that there is a world beyond that bed of, pain, sorrow and selfhatred. So i wanna leave all of that behind. I started hitting the gym, started Bujudo and even wanna try some stuff out. The wound is fresh and it will take its time... But one day i will be that good men she saw in me, that for over 10 years i couldn't see, because i never left that time behind. I know i am just a random dude, but from my deepest part of my heart, i wish you the best men. That there is a better tomorrow for you and that you can become the good men people see in you Love from a random Dude from Switzerland xD
Just binged a few of your videos, and bro, you are punching way above your weight class with these! The production value, editing, scripting, all really top tier. Was shocked at your sub number, but count me as one more. Also - do you write on your own projects at all? You have really good story instincts and I'd be interested in something original from you. Just a "keep it up" comment, don't slow down!
I like your changes yo the story. Carver's story was done well in the actual game it's a shame that it's player 2 only. I had the luxury of playing 3 in co-op with my wife (at the time girlfriend) with side-by-side tvs so we both got the full experience in that run and it was fantastic!
One of imo the biggest middle fingers from DS3 was how at the start on the moon of saturn or jupiter was it? A necromorph outbreak happens. And we just easily get out of there on a train into a spaceship and leave the planet / moon to die. Then we learn everytime it happens in a large populated area the ascension was it? Where the necromorphs combine! The event starts and it forms another brother moon Wouldn't that start to form another brother moon? We just left a literal moon colony by itself 😂 And it was a city. You could tell by the large apartment buildings and trash everywhere it was a hussle and bussling large city. Plus the moon colony is waaayyyy closer to earth than wherever far away the ice planet was at
Oh its way worse than that. The Moon Colony that you see at the start of the game is Earth's moon actually. The New Horizons Lunar Colony makes the Sprawl look tiny which suggests that their was probably billions of people that were condemned to being killed by necromorphs at the start of the game due to Danik detonating the Marker. That in itself kinda made just leaving it to die being stupid. That many people dying to a Marker could of done a Convergence event all on its own.
@@WeaverOfStars thats probably what would have caused in the end the moons appearing from the dlc. Also probably what caused DS4 if it were ever made. Yup that would've killed the genre/series entirely. I can see why they wanna remake the franchise from scratch
Hello Kevin! My name is Victor, I'm from Brazil, and I am really grateful to have found your channel! I love your view about the Dead Space franchise, and I love your view of life and its relationships. I feel very related to you about PTSD because I too have been recently through some hardships in life with my ex-girlfriend. I feel you, friend! Stay safe, and I hope to see a new video soon!
Man, this was quite the video. I remembered that I hated Norton's guts for basically butting into Isaac and Ellie's moments 😆 I also wish there were more of those Co Op rooms because the differing experiences was pretty funny with you sounding like you were actually going crazy to your buddy. I do wish that Carver's development wasn't solely tied to these and were more for fun and a little more lore to add on to a more complete backstory for him. As much as it pains me to think of Ellie dying, the way you set up the confrontation with Danik made for quite the interesting twist since Isaac couldn't really have those types of hallucinations anymore which were one of my favorite parts about DS2. I would love to see them remake the other 2 although I would be more interested in 3 since I don't believe much more can be done to 2 as it already felt like a great game.
Honestly, you could've had chatter about the hallucinations too. Would add some depth to the game. Carver: *Randomly stops* Isaac: You see something? Carver: That toy.... It's just like the one i bought for.... Isaac: .... What does it look like? Carver: It was a plastic soldier that he would always ask for.... It took forever, but I managed to get one.... I was gonna surprise him.... Isaac: .... He would've loved it. Carver: Yeah... *Sniffle* Isaac: *Looks at the spot, sees nothing* Isaac: .... Come on. Let's keep moving.
On the topic of a DS2 remake i believe that the story and gameplay are perfect as they are from what i remember so i think updating the graphics and a few tweaks plus all dlc included would be perfectly fine. However i do have an idea where you can play as different characters in their own story missions on the sprawl kinda like a "(insert here) in one game" where for example you experience not only Issacs time on the sprawl but also Ellie's experience during the sprawl outbreak and Weller from the DS2 Severed dlc and maybe Vandal from the DS mobile game. I do realize this would be a massive undertaking but if it happened it would be amazing.
Ellie should be the second playable character, and the missions should be at different times, one you play as Isaac, one you play as Ellie, to make the survival horror feeling back
Eh as a long time dead space fan, i thought the fact some of the parts were co-op only were easily skippable in the overall aspect of the story. I also loved the direction they went with in how they made it very action heavy. It just makes sense how much Isaac would have to deal with given the fact theyre trying to go stop the marker home world (or what they thought was the marker home world) but i could definitely see it having taken some different direction to more horror aspects. Honestly i think it was such an awesome game and i wouldnt change it except write out more side quests to the game that dont lock only specific to co op. Itd be cool. I think the team that remade the first game could definitely give the 2nd and 3rd games more parts to those to give more back story to it honestly.
Aliens froze the planet
Humans off'd everyone and destroyed any research / most research and the key activator to prevent the device from unfreezing the planet.
In a way adding a little bit of hope where sacrifices doe the greater good.
Like the flood from halo haha
Reminds me of the alien race who crash landed on Earth from The Thing.
I think that last quote from Serrano “Its all Dead Space” came as a perfect title drop and enbody the cosmic horror that the series achive, still gives me chills. Such a shame is in DS3
Maybe it’s just me, but I honestly found the twist to be a more horror centric version of the Prothean vs. Reapers argument from Mass Effect.
There were actually THREE bretheren moons in the Tau Volantis system. The broken moon, and the two in Ellie's top the devs thought we wouldnt notice.
Her tit size definitely increased in the third game, did she get some work done to impress Norton?
they sure can control the masses... and make a lot of promises in your head...
Insert the Tony Stark "Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did" meme.
Har har.
Oooh, I haven’t seen Evangelion! Maybe I should…

Ngl that would be awsome.
The combo of kenisis&staitus and invisibility is deadly.
I think the funniest part of the review was replacing Carver's name with a number of co-op character names.
It was a lot of fun to write.
😂 totally loved it too
Imagine playing dead space and your coop partners name is tig ol bitties
Came here to say exactly that 😂
The Tails one killed me.
I think they should make different sections where you play as Issac and carver in different locations at different times
@@xicufwm That was what I said dude.
Wasnt DS4 planned to be like that?
Best part of the game 100%
@@KevinHelpUs Hard agree. I feel like barring the copy-pasted environments it was easily some of the best world design I've seen in the series since the remake of the original that fleshed out the "lived in" feel of the classic Ishimura.
4:43 "They are no longer asking you to make them whole, they are making the holes themselves."
I split myself in half laughing, such a great line! Earned my sub immediately!
So glad you’re here!
Should have been Elie, indeed.
Yup
A dev had a hateboner for her or something because
Where she was a badass shoot first survival woman pilot in DS2
In DS3 she was more akin to a damsel in distress
When the unitologist had her at gunpoint for the activation key i was like
Wut?
Cmon Ellie PUNCH THE GUY or something to break free
Reminds me of what happened with Bioshock infinite.
@@WeaverOfStars DS4 wouldve apparently from dev interviews been her as the MC.
Though after DS3 wouldve been hard to comeback from
PTSD is a hell of a horrible thing to deal with.
Thanks so much for sharing that, I appreciate you being open. I hope things are better now.

@@KevinHelpUs I sure hope so, I appreciate that a lot.
I think so too!
Yep, well said. There’s a number of good ideas in the game, they just don’t necessarily mesh well.
Its EA
Imo it was actually above average from most of their other IPs especially how they treated star wars.
@@fumothfan9 That's not UNtrue! XD

@@SnowHoof000 Exactly.
Thanks for saying so. Hope you keep going too!
I cannot disprove the moon farts theory.
Most advanced technologies and organisms in media seem to have levitational powers, remember the vidocs from military jet planes seeing a object km away from them dissappear and then reaper mere seconds later only to be hundreds of km away? Imagine that but on a much grander scale for the brethren moons
Ah that's a dope-ass ending
Thanks, although I’m glad I don’t have to watch it every day in editing anymore. :)

I might be mistaken but I think that game GTFO has a mechanic like that, as well as the little girl in lethal company although not to as big of an extent as this idea
@@mr.b89GTFO does not have a mechanic like this to my knowledge.
Ok ok my top 5 things thatll make DS3 better
5. Make Carvers hallucinations available for free and not just behind a paywall
4. Give people a better understanding on which pieces go to which weapon to craft
3. Flesh out Carvers backstory
2. Have it where we could potentially play back and forth between Issac and that marine at the opening of the game ( cant remember his name ) and have it where it eventually leads to where his path ends and where Issac continues from there
1. Please, please, please have it where the love triangle between Isaac, Norton and Ellie is scrapped or better yet just make it where Norton is just an associate nothing more and not some dickhead of a new boyfriend who bitches about his girls ex being in the room
Legit chills when Ellie said "No, I survived" knowing you actually killed her. The whole video came together for me. Excellent revision.
Damn, that moment at the end for his coop partner, that was heavy, I'm glad you are working towrads being better
Thanks so much for saying so! I really appreciate it.
"So my dead son is contacting me though my radio"
XD
That part at the end really got me. It's never too late for redemption.
Calling Ellie, Sheva. And Carver, The Arbiter is craazzyyy!😂😂
It’s crazy how Carver’s whole story is one of the best parts of the game and it’s totally missable.
i found your channel through your isaac clarke video about how him having a voice in the remake changes his character and i can say im honestly extremely surprised on how underrated your channel is, your editing is amazing and the references you make are great. on top of that your videos are extremely thorough but super easy to binge.
AAAAA
Thank you! That made my night.
Absolutely loving your content! Amazing work, all your videos are so thought out. Great work!
Bro your videos are hilarious, well edited and genuinely insightful. That message to your ex at the end was truly heartfelt and took courage. You'll be @ 100k in no time if you keep it up. Subscribed
Thanks so much for saying so, glad to have you here!
8:15 Isaac and sheeva 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Really appreciate you sharing that. I hope things are getting better, and I’m glad to have you here!
Thank you. Your story has helped me more than you could believe. I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future.
Glad I could help!
I love how you include yourself into it and the way you explain love it 10/10 vid
I love this, all of this. Thank you for sharing your vision for a better dead space 3, something desperately needed and thank you for being brave and sharing what it takes to make things right. Not everyone have role models, and you definitely are one.
1:11 That's a lot of "deads"! love the videos buddy, so many clever puns, nods and references that almost fly under the radar! :)
Thanks so much for telling me, really appreciate the kind words.
8:12 Isaac and Sheva 😂
What they did to Ellie was straight up character assassination. I'm still salty, damn it
I really like the personal aspects that you add to your videos... just know that you are far from alone when it comes to dealing with rough emotional stuff, props to you for being brave enough to discuss it publicly!
You got a new sub for it! :)
As far as DS3 goes, your story is way better! Cause it actually gives you reasons to care about all the characters, something the actual game really lacks.
Thanks, and glad to have you here! Welcome!
I think one line I would have included in the game is:
"I am whole"
It's such a fundamental rejection of the marker
I like that!
The Arbiter joke got me
I really hope EA tasks Motive with remaking Dead Space 2 after they're through assisting Vince Zampella's studio with the new Battlefield game.
I still think Ellie should’ve made the jump but just get severely injured like lose a leg since she lost a eye last time
I just found your channel through "I Fixed The Callisto Protocol's Story" and followed that up with this one. Two things:
A) I find your version of Dead Space 3 much more appealing than what we got.
I’m sorry you could relate to that story, but I’m glad to hear you’re doing better now.
Just gonna say 🤓
Of course they're not aliens, they were born there!
Via evolution!
Isaac was technically the alien here.
What a great love letter to the game and to your friend. Well done
I kinda wish Gabe Weller was alive and be the co-op partner for Isaac Clarke, more than Carver. I know he pretty much passed in his DLC back in DS2, but I felt the connection of him and Isaac being pretty much ones who survived, ever since the whole incident with the Ishimura, would’ve made for some interesting chemistry between them.
wow not only an amazing video, great message at the end too, needed that today man
Glad it was what you needed!
"i got ptsd" walk it off son
no u
Bro you are awesome guy man. To show your love for the girl you care about. You set a DS3 ploy as a walkthrough in order to convey your love and right your wrongs. I commend you you brave man. “Good Men mean Well, they just don’t always end up doing well” I felt that. This isn’t a walkthrough it’s a love letter
I do the right things eventually…sometimes. Thanks for the kind words!
Im really impressed how well the graphics in the games hold up, especially the first one. Dead space one came out in 2008.
how I'd fix dead space three: have the asynchronous hallucinations go two way, so that even in single player, you see hallucinations as issac.
then I'd add single player only content to counter the co-op only content so that it's fair in that sense. finally, I'd add more variety to the necromorphs and their random encounters, as it just felt like zombies and slasher the whole game.
to play devils advocate for carver saving ellie in the end, is because carver learned not all sacrifices are worth it, and issac learns from carver that sometimes you need to cut loose threads lest they catch a doorknob and ruin your clothes.
I believe Carver should of taken over as the main character for Deadspace 3, isaac already went through all of his development and freedom from the market, Carver however would get all the character development for the story with guidance from Isaac.
such an underated channel great video! Keep doing what your doing you'll get big sometime!
Someday!
I subbed, hope you make more videos soon:)@@KevinHelpUs
I shall! I was cutting I Fixed Resident Evil 6 as your comment popped up!
I only played this game a few times, but I actually enjoyed the co-op.
I had no idea they had co-op only missions though. That seems pretty sleazy.
Nicely produced video, btw! 🤘
The co-op itself isn’t bad! I was hesitant, but I did have fun.
And thank you, so glad you enjoyed it!
What what I have changed about dead space 3? At the standoff between Danik and Isaac, Ellie elbows Danik, Isaac shoots him, they drop the moon, they escape using Danik's shuttle. Next game: Dead space 4: Hunting the brethren moons.
So this is the 3rd video I watch from you and I just wanna say that I am glad you are getting there. And your content is amazing!
YOU’RE amazing!
That there is a better tomorrow for you and that you can become the good men people see in you
Love from a random Dude from Switzerland xD
Thank you for sharing that, random dude from Switzerland. Hoping for the best for you too.
Thanks so much for your kind words - everyone starts somewhere!
The event starts and it forms another brother moon
Wouldn't that start to form another brother moon?
We just left a literal moon colony by itself 😂
And it was a city.
Dead Space 3 is like RE5 if Sheva disappeared during gameplay in single player and randomly showed in cutscenes.
Thanks, Victor! Working on the next one now!
Great video,i haven't seen a lot of people that have related to this game as much as in did, keep up the good work man
Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed it!
"Isaac and the arbiter" killed me
Very well thought video and i feel you on the personal stuff, I love dead space and I wish the ending was not the end of the series
This was such a great video with personal touch
Honestly, you could've had chatter about the hallucinations too. Would add some depth to the game.
Carver: *Randomly stops*
Isaac: You see something?
Carver: That toy.... It's just like the one i bought for....
Isaac: .... What does it look like?
Carver: It was a plastic soldier that he would always ask for.... It took forever, but I managed to get one.... I was gonna surprise him....
Isaac: .... He would've loved it.
Carver: Yeah... *Sniffle*
Isaac: *Looks at the spot, sees nothing*
Isaac: .... Come on. Let's keep moving.
I always love your channel because you always come off as so sweet and genuine. Wonderful video.
Thanks, Poppy! Great to see you again!
Ellie should be the second playable character, and the missions should be at different times, one you play as Isaac, one you play as Ellie, to make the survival horror feeling back
call this guy bob the builder cuz he can fix it
Eh as a long time dead space fan, i thought the fact some of the parts were co-op only were easily skippable in the overall aspect of the story.
