  • Of course I'd use Koudelka music. What did you expect? Ok, next time I'll do something different. Don't look at me like that.
Visit / siberianlab for fun convos and grappling tech.

The interesting part about this conversation for me is that it really all comes down to the opponent and the level of play. But I agree that establishing buttons first is important. It helps get a read on how much respect the opponent has for your command grab.
I hover between diamond one & two and so far they really like to jump and random DI me.

SPD is mainly a knowledge check for the opponent. If you do a tick SPD and they don't jump, you can assume that if you repeat the exact same sequence afterward then they will jump or mash or try anything and that is when you mix them up. Block their reversal, replace SPD with Hell Stab or Neutral HB into Borscht Dynamite or go for regular throw while buffering Level 1 if they back jump. The sky is not safe for them if you read their jumps correctly, they can't get away. Remember; WE ARE THE PROTECTORS OF THE RUSSIAN SKIES. GOD!!! I MISS SIBERIAN BLIZZARD

Appreciate this video, really helped me change how I think about the zangief “flowchart” or my gameplan with him. Especially cause I find it much more difficult to know what to do with zangief compared to other characters.

Finally made it to Masters on Gief last week. My first Street Fighter game, I looked forward to your videos during the climb, and I still do. Always learning.

Never mind, you answered my question earlier as to why to use crouching jab, thank you! LOL

Honestly i have the opposite problem lmao, i really gotta go for SPDs more but i hesitate a lot. Patch was particularly good for me since i was already poking like hell.

I’ve been using lots of Drive Rush Atomic Knee. It’s + on block and I typically can then apply pressure with crouch short and jabs. ✊🏾

backdashes still tilt me sometimes. so any and all tech to deal with and punish them is appreciated! heck even just the reminder that in this game sometimes its better to end pressure early for intel is appreciated.
So thank you brother! great video as always.

I believe that was the principle when creating Zangief gameplay, you either go for damage with throw or sacrifice some damage for better oki/pressure.
The changes in season 2 update added an extra layer, now you can save drive gauge for better oki/pressure (normal borsh working where it did not in S1 and normal lariat doing more damage) and gaining drive gauge faster.

I'm almost only going the striking way.
Almost not command grabs, I just use them once or twice.
one borscht if they jump too much.
one SPD/Siberian if they block too much.
    that's it.

We have to change how we play him, I think. Maybe rushdown is too crazy, but at least we need to poke more.

That has been my focus lately too, less spd, more frame traps and better conversions from these situations.
Oh and less throw break attempts, that is probably the other big reason I loss matches.

Last days I force my opponent to stay on the floor and not jumping with my new strat:
Bait them that I'll do a SPD but in reality I wait their jump and I launch my lvl1 (or air SPD), after that they don't want to jump anymore and I can go for normal SPD, but some people are more smart than others and backdash.
I don't think that this strategy works far above my level (1540 MR)
