Not to mention the multiple game over screens that vary depending on when and how you die. In typical Rare fashion, they're mortifying and disturbing, but this was the first Rare game that had more than ONE.
The Xbox version improves it in quite a few ways, I would recommend playing it if you never have and are a big fan of the original. It's not a totally different game, but it's a welcome change when going for a replay
Actually there was Twelve Tales: Conker 64 but never released :( (altho there is starfox adventures originally made for gamecube, leaked for n64 so maybe one day the same for twelve tales) who knows.
You aren't supposed to spin the stick when throwing the alien. Just slowly turn it like a steering wheel in the direction the alien is laying. Works every time.
I used to play this game with my family when i was 16-17 with my mom, 5 year old brother, and 70 year old grandmother. My grandma thought the sunflower part was hilarious. Great video btw!
That's awesome, your family sounds fun. I personally still think the sunflower scene is funny. Pretty sure we are all capable of living and dying on the joke and not taking any of it seriously like we used to. Too many people are waaay too easily offended now for no reason and take everything far too seriously. Honestly, I think they mostly just do it to seek attention because a lot of people act offended, even when the content they're screaming about doesn't actually offend them at all, but "could potentially offend others." It's all just so incredibly stupid and I wish it all would just stop.
I never noticed Conker goes the other way from the bar at the end of the game, I always interpreted it as him starting the whole process over again, ie another bad fur day
I experienced Conker for the first time at my cousin's house I laughed so hard I peed there's was so many crazy funny shit going on like him trying to pull a giant bra off with a trex and etc.
Matrix is one of the greatest movies of all time, but Conker's parody is not that good. It seems they did it just because it was a famous movie at the time
I was introduced to this game cause of that one video of the Great Mighty Poo cutscene being edited to match the Scatman song back when RUclips was cool. And yes, I only now understand the double entendre of the poop man singing Scatman
While I understand being uncomfortable about the cog scene, I think it's ultimately fine because the asshole cog is honestly treated like one of the worst characters in the game, and gives you not a single reason to like him even after you do his chore for him. After you get what you want from him, he's beaten up and humiliated by the lady cogs. And then the not-so-subtly-gay side of the asshole cog, who was generally more nice and helpful, ends up in control and actually happy with the situation. Not saying you have to like the scene and can still think it's in bad taste, but a bad character doing something bad and then the ultimate punchline of the joke is them getting punished for what they did seems fine to me.
I agree with you to an extent. The issue I have with the joke is that it’s done in a way that could genuinely hurt people who have experienced sexual assault. That’s where I find humour goes a bit too far: when it has a very high likelihood of hurting a certain group of people. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro-free speech, I just think that when people do hurtful things, they should be called out as what they are: hurtful.
@@lavalakeproductions1428 BI don't know, I don't agree with that. I've seen more comments of people THINKING it can be hurtful and offensive rather than anyone saying that the game is this and that. Never seen a comment about anyone saying anything bad about the game.
I wish there were more games that had protagonists that had the animation of Conker's tail man. I dunno' what it is about a tail with free flowing animation that's so damn satisfying, but.. Damn.
His tail does have incredible animation! It's something I would have mentioned in the video but I had to trim out some details to cut the video length down a bit. According to the developer commentary they emulated the way a bag of air would float when animating the tail, and I think they nailed that feeling of a free-floating object anchored to something.
I'm with y'all 100%. Also, the cancel culture has put WAY too much fear in a LOT of companies and people in general. Oh no! You better NOT make this game or this movie, or else, I'll sue you for EVERYTHING you've got! REEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!😛😛😛😛😛. That's basically what makes up the " cancel culture ", a huge echo chamber full of hypocritical and self-righteous killjoys who doesn't want other people to be happy and joyful and spread joy amongst others, all because they themselves are miserable with their lives. I don't care what it takes, Conker's Bad Fur Day NEEDS to be revived, even if it means twisting some arms to make it happen, and to spite this asinine and pathetic " cancel culture ". And what better console to revive it and Rare's other legendary IP on other than a Nintendo console, mainly the Nintendo Switch? Even if it's a multi-platform release on both Xbox consoles and the Nintendo Switch, I'd be thankful for that, as long as it's a PHYSICAL release most importantly.
@@willowfive8330, Sorry I didn't answer you sooner but, yes, apparently the creator of Conker has, key word being " HAS " been weary of making a new Conker game because of the potential risk of getting sued and whatnot. Practically every game that's rated M has some degree of intense blood and gore, real strong vulgar language, toilet humor, and VERY raunchy sexual scenes and such, so (no disrespect to him) I'm not buying that at all, not one bit. There's literally no excuse for RareWare to not green light a brand new Conker game, or heck, even a HD remaster on both the Nintendo Switch and Xbox family of consoles would be something us genuine and loyal fans of Conker would be more than thankful for. I say, f*ck the vitriolic, hypocritical, and morbidly contradictory self-righteous cancel culture, if a new Conker game (whether it's a HD remaster or a brand new installment, or both) is meant to come to fruition, then damn it, there's absolutely NOTHING that any spoilsports or gloomy souls can do about that. Oh, and while we're at it, other ageless and legendary golden gems like Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie N64, Jet Force Gemini N64, Diddy Kong Racing N64, 3D Donkey Kong (whether it be Donkey Kong 64 or a new sequel), Mickey's Speedway USA N64, Extreme G N64, Extreme G2 N64, Glover N64, Mischief Makers N64, Chameleon Twist N64, Chameleon Twist 2, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Paper Mario 64, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Wave Race 64, Star Fox, and last, but most certainly not least, F-Zero ALL need major revivals in this era of gaming, because the Nintendo Switch has pretty much reintroduced the 1990's golden age of gaming. New Super Lucky's Tale on the Nintendo Switch was a magnificent decision on Microsoft's/Xbox's behalf, 3D platformers are basically the top heap when it comes to Nintendo games/consoles, and New Super Lucky's Tale is such an underrated gem, it's truly an amazing game from what I can tell, and it's best played on the Nintendo Switch. Lucky might as well be one of Conker's long lost friends, I mean after all, the game looks and feels very similar to the 3D platforming of Conker's Bad Fur Day, at least to some degree. Well, all we can do from here on out is hope and pray that RareWare's legendary IPs and those other diamonds in the rough that I listed will get the amazing revival treatment that they rightfully deserve, and I also hope and pray that Craig Duncan (the CURRENT head of RareWare {or Rare Ltd}) has a big change of heart towards us RareWare/Nintendo fans and stops trying to negatively read our minds, we KNOW EXACTLY what we want, and what we GENUINELY WANT is for these games/IPs to be gloriously revived, and that's not asking a lot, considering the fact that we've had to go decades without any new installments or remasters/remakes of these wonderful titles. Anyway, stay safe, God Bless, and GodSpeed my humble brutha🙏😎⭐.
@@Enigmaculate I couldn't agree more with this. Seriously, Cancel Culture ruins everything. Also, funnily enough, when I saw an ad for Lucky Tales, I immediately thought, "Conker? What happened to you?". And now I headcannon that Lucky is his long lost cousin 😂
@@willowfive8330, Lol😂, who knows? Maybe much to our surprise, they just might be cousins, despite being different kinds of animals. I love having light-hearted talks, especially with kind-hearted people like yourself😄.
They're really just shallow as hell. it's just there to be a stupid joke and a fucked up joke respectively with no effort other than "this is a tiddie/rape joke...thats the joke."
@@Neogears1312 How is that different than any other joke in the game? They're not trying to be high brow clever affair, they just try to make you laugh. I don't get why those jokes are so much more outrageous than blowing up a mouse to get a fat lady to move, or literally knocking a guys testicles off, or crushing a baby under a giant rock to appease a giant dinosaur god.
@@Neogears1312 It's a game about a drunk squirrel and a giant singing turd, I don't think the game is supposed to be high brow. This kind of humour fits because of how ridiculous it is.
About those "uncomfortable" sex jokes you mentioned... Most people assume they were included just because "it was fine to make jokes about sexual assault back then" or something like that. While the different Zeitgeist definitely plays into it significantly, I don't think that's what the devs at Rare had in mind when they made those scenes. To give them the benefit of the doubt, I don't think they were like... "Hey, let's make a joke about oral sex being forced on women." Intead I think they were just like "Hey, if the hole in the cog was their mouth, then putting it on a peg looks like it's giving head." ...and they didn't take the implications of the whole thing seriously. In other words, they didn't overthink their jokes. Today we constantly overthink things that were meant as throwaway gags. We take all the implications very seriously. Almost too seriously sometimes, if you ask me. Back then it was like "They're not actually giving head, they're just cogs on pegs. The blowjob comparison is just a little gag, don't take it seriously. Besides, Conker didn't realize he was putting it on wrong and immediately corrects it. Also, the male cog gets his comeuppance in the end and the female cogs are freed and take their revenge, so it's all fine." If someone pointed out how fucked up it was, you would've been like.. "Yeah, it's terrible what's happening here. What's your point?" But now, we're always like "What kind of message is this sending?" As if every game was a teaching tool for children. Or we think "What's the dev trying to imply with this?" As if every game was a statement. Or we go "How is this going to affect people that play it?" As if every game was propaganda. Fact is, this is a game for adults. If you're old enough to play it and haven't already made up your mind about how to think about sexually questionable scenarios like these, then the game should be the least of your worries.
@@ShyGuyXXL well it is a two-part thing so please bear with me, also please do understand i loved this game as a kid and played it a LOT so i am not coming at it from an outsider perspective; the first bit is pretty simple, in the late nineties/early oughts there already was an outcry over rape. it was not fully encompassed but it did exist and it was generally seen as something that wasn't ok. the issue was though that there wasn't(and often still isn't) any repercussion for rape unless it is done by certain kinds of people to certain other kinds of people in specific ways with the rape itself coming in second to the perceived value of each party involved. making rape jokes is a natural(though unpleasant) response to something so deeply embedded in the culture but also not so acceptable that it becomes boring and without note. the fact that rape is used as the punishment for the cog that asked you to do this for him is itself a sign that even when this was made there was an understanding that rape was bad and unpleasant(though rape as a punishment for rape is a whole entire other problem in and of itself). you can make the claim they didnt think it out very far but you cannot deny that they knew what sort of joke they were making and knew that it was going to upset and offend(which was the entire point of adding it). the second part, and the bit that led me to make my comment, is that just attaching the cog by the mouth to the psudo-penis of another cog isn't the full premise; you are offered compensation to find, assault, kidnap and return(while they are screaming for help and begging not not be raped) several cogs THEN you, and specifically you, help the cog forcefully penetrate each of them with the implicit understanding that they are not consenting and do not want this after which you are rewarded. keep in mind also that at the end the punishment the rapist cog gets is to be penetrated as well with the punchline of the joke being that rape is a punishment if it is gay penetration and rape is only fun for the perpetrator(you the player of course are not punished in any way for helping and participation is mandatory for progression so you cannot avoid it if you want to keep playing the game). the punchline could not work if the creators did not understand that rape is not ok and is a bad thing to have happen to someone. the set-up and knock-down is just a combination of the rape-revenge fantasy and the gay prison joke. it is supposed to be perverse because it is cogs, an otherwise inanimate object, but the joke in the end isn't about mouths it is about how consent changes sex for men. thanks for reading all of this, not sure if it changes your position or not but i am at least grateful for the opportunity to have my own position heard
@@technopoptart I never meant to imply we didn't take rape seriously in the early 2000s. Of course we did. That wasn't my point. The point was we didn't take rape JOKES seriously. But I'll get back to that. I don't doubt that some of these implications were intended, but I don't think they thought about it that much. For example, when Conker realizes he put the first cog on wrong and flips it around, Carl (that's the asshole cog's name, by the way) is disappointed. That implies when the female cogs are facing away from the wall, it's not sexual anymore. That would make sense, since that's how they were built. Why would whoever created the cogs make it so they're constantly fucking during "work"? If being "penetrated" from behind with the peg was supposed to represent anal sex, then Carl wouldn't object. Surely, he'd still love it. Also, he's already on a peg from the beginning. If it was anal, he'd already be used to it and be fine with it. So if being stuck on the peg that way around is completely normal, then why are the other cogs still protesting being on the wall? Is it because they don't wanna be near Carl? That's understandable. [Though I wouldn't mind being around Quentin. ;) (That's the gay version's name)] Is it because they just don't like to hang on a wall? Well, it seems like they were more than capable of getting off of the wall on their own after Carl was tossed off of it. And if being on a peg the right way around isn't code for anal... then why does Carl nope out when he's stuck on Mr. Big Cog's peg? Is it just because he doesn't want to be close to him? Also, if it's meant to represent that Carl has been stuck onto Mr. Big Cog's cock... then why does it go through Mr. Big Cog's mouth? Wouldn't the peg represent another penis? Is it meant to imply double penetration? Like, a cock all the way through one person, and then into another person... But... I thought it was established that being penetrated from behind wasn't.... and.... uh... ...See how none of this really adds up if you overanalyze it? That's because they probably didn't overanalyze it themselves. They just thought up a bunch of vague analogies that are all tied to the ridiculous premise of... ...well, gears on a wall. If you take a step back and think about how ludicrous this all is, it's clear you're not meant to look at it as a complex allegory for a desirable society, but just as a bunch of fucked up jokes with fucked up characters. You're not meant to take it seriously. And that was ultimately my point. Let's say for the sake of argument they were completely aware of all the implications. Yes, then it's very fucked up. It's even still fucked up if they weren't aware. It's even still questionable of you JUST look at it as cogs on a wall, without any of the implications. And that was the point of the scene. The whole game is meant to be fucked up. It's literally made with the purpose of putting as many crass and offensive things into a game as they can get away with. It's pure shock humor. It's filled with bad people doing bad things. But why do we take this kind of shock humor so seriously? Why do we treat these jokes as anything more than something that's meant to make you go "Woah, that's fucked up!"? And like I said, I'm NOT saying we didn't take rape seriously in the early 2000s. I'm saying we didn't take stupid jokes *involving* rape seriously back then. So seriously that people would rather see the jokes removed if the game was remade again. My original point was that in the early 2000s, we were able to distinguish jokes from reality. Why is the alternative any better? Do we think the Devs at rare don't take rape in real life seriously? Then why doesn't that apply to murder as well? A ton of innocent and not so innocent characters get murdered in the game. So should we assume the people at rare don't take murder in real life seriously? Or is it just a dumb game? I mean this is the same game where a talking pitchfork tries to kill itself but fails because it doesn't have an oesophagus. Does that mean they don't take real suicide seriously? Is it that we believe that people who hear rape jokes will take real life rape less seriously? I've yet to see any evidence for these kinds of "monkey see, monkey do" assertions. Like I said in my last comment, this isn't a game for children. It's for adults who are expected to already know that bad things are bad, m'kay? And if that assertion was true, why doesn't it also apply to the all the murder? Did Jack Thompson have a point? Are people gonna be less upset about suicide because they saw a joke about pitchfork suicide? Or is the entire joke hinging on the fact that we already think suicide is terrible, and so it's shocking to hear cartoon characters talk about it so brazenly, but then, seeing that in this world, a pitchfork can't even hang itself. It's constantly subverting your expectations. That's why it's funny. If Franky the pitchfork had succeeded in killing himself, it wouldn't have been funny. It would've just been sad. And about the gay jokes... I'm as cock-hungry (or cog-hungry? :P) as Quentin and I don't think there's any problem with gay stuff being used as a punchline in a game like this. It's not done in a mean-spirited way. Like, of course Carl wouldn't wanna be "pegged" by Mr. Big Cog. He's straight. I don't see it as a joke at the expense of gay people, I see it as ironic karma. The pervert who wanted sex got his wish, but not in the way he wanted. Quentin's happy tho, so I'm happy. :) The only problem I have with that whole chapter is that we never got to hear Mr. Big Cog's opinion on anything. I guess he's not too talkative with that rod in his mouth. :P By the way, notice how Conker never had anything bad to say about Quentin's gayness? Only his snobbishness. They could've easily made Conker call him a queer or something, but they showed some restraint. So I guess at least Conker's not homophobic. :P But I digress. Sorry for my endless ramblings. In short, I don't think we should take this stuff so seriously. I don't think any harm was intended, and I have no reason to believe any harm was done. It looks really bad by today's standards, but then again today's standards are mostly missing the forest for the trees. If this was a children's game and/or the questionable content was presented like it was something normal and not an edgy joke, then people would have a point. But as it is, all you could really say that it's in poor taste. And to that I'd say, "Yes, that's the point."
I used to want a sequel to this game but honestly Bad Fur Day is an example of a perfect storm culminating in a unique experience. The magic would lose its luster if there was another one
I don't know, Live and Loaded didnt ruin the magic and it took a bunch of liberties changing the game. I'd be down for another one in this day and age as long as people like Zach Hadel and Chris Oneil were writers behind it.
I think we can get a sequel, the problem is, to find the right developers, ironically, i think ubisoft could do a great job, they made the south park game, the humour would be on point, maybe they would need some help on the plataforming side, maybe if microsoft does buy activision, the game could be made by ubisoft with collaboration of toys for bob or maybe beenox, they prove themselves to be good with plataformers.
Okay? Quality aside, the games have a surprising amount of similarities. Weirdly outdated cultural references... obscure GB games nobody cares about... out of place underwater levels... strange gimmicks that interrupt normal play... a lot of the stages have similar themes... similar art styles... the list goes on forever!!! In fact, many would even go as far to say that Conker was influenced by Gex, and that the trademarked Rare artstyle was actually first achieved by Gex. So where does this leave you? You're just an nimrod who goes around the internet being an arse, that's what. You could have brought up any of these points-or provided an argument on the contrary-said something funny-or just ignored me and disliked the comment!!! Please hold yourself to a higher standard.
@@gexgecko8499 You probably are right. But Gex still sucks and it's no fun to play. And that's decidual crucial for a good game. Quality aside is quickly said, but it actually makes the difference.
Okay maybe you mean with things like making references to pop culture, bad wording and cartoon humor. Cuz that's where all similarities stop, which btw, it wasn't a novelty back then, but the way it was executed in bad fur day is what makes it so unique.
Awesome video! I love CBFD. Its an amazing what they accomplished back then. FYI: The final boss and its swing mechanic isn’t done like Bowser in SM64. Try this next time.. swing the boss slowly and swing faster with each swing. Basically swing him with momentum.
I absolutely adore this game. This game was just so unique for it's time, and there's no other game like this. I like the humor, the music, and the characters (no matter how raunchy, vulgar, or twisted they are). I just hope that one day Rare will be able to make another Conker game.
@Willow FIVE, You and me both👍. Also, it is INCREDIBLY ironic how this " cancel culture " is perfectly ok with a game like " _Grand Theft Auto_ " (it essentially has a federal crime as it's title for starters), a game that pretty much glorifies the abuse and prostitution of women, glorifies robbery and so forth, but Conker's Bad Fur Day is " unacceptable " to them? How hypocritical can they be? If anything, Conker's Bad Fur Day is light-years more better than GTA could EVER be. This is a shining example of having double-standards. I could go on and on, but I'll stop right there. I just wanted to shed some light on this, because I don't know if anybody else ever will, or if they already have, their explanation about it hasn't gotten the positive attention that it deserves.
@@Enigmaculate wait, wait, wait hold the frick on... Cancel Culture dared to CANCEL THIS UNDERRATED GAME?! I now have a passionate hatred for cancel culture (unless if they're actually cancelling someone for doing something that's actually awful, or scummy).
This channel is the definition of a SUPER Severely underrated channel!! I just find this channel a few weeks and ago and IMMEDIATELY Subbed in the middle of my 1st video and was taken aback when I noticed how many subs u had... plenty much love I really enjoy your content!
This game has no shame, has a nonsensical story and crude humour. Yet it just works so perfectly, this game really is a masterpiece. Such a shame we will likely never see a game like this hit the mainstream ever again. This was Rare's last genuine game.
Conker's Bad Furday, such a one of a kind game, and my all time favorite. There aren't any other games like it, at least to my knowledge. Conker's Bad Furday is such a unique masterpiece, and I love the fully voice acted approach that was taken with this game. I really miss Conker and everything about his game such as the immature-mature humor and the fully cinematic approach and just how impressive it feels for the N64.
I still own Diddy Kong Racing. And my N64 with the original controller. Games from the 90's to the early 2000's just hold a special place in my heart. And nothing beats Conker's bad fur day!
I think there is one wad of cash that's optional and you can skip. If I remember correctly, it's on top of poo mountain, or on a cliff near that area. I forget exactly, it's been years.
I played Conker's Bad Fur Day young. I was about 10 or 12. Lets set move past if I should have been playing this game or not then. Conker's Bad Fur Day is the reason why I love tragic endings. I recall beating it and feeling sad and depressed. Endings are supposed to be happy, right? No, life will still dick you over despite how you pulled through and defy all odds. After all of that, you gotta keep moving forward and walk out of that bar.
It's interesting that you mention the references to classic movies like "Jaws" and "The Godfather" as ones that hold up, but consider "The Matrix" reference dated. Yes, it was a relatively new movie at the time(which is ironically the criteria for making it seem "dated"), but it went on to influence/inspire Hollywood filmmaking at least as much as the older movies you mentioned.
Even though the game was (intentionally) excluded from Nintendo Power magazine, they did publish an official Nintendo Power Player's Guide for the game. I still have my copy, and it is hilariously written.
Heey, you actually held your word of making a conker's BFD retrospective for the 20th year anniversary, that's awesome. I really respect and appreciate that, cheers dude.
Great hidden gem of a channel. Appreciate these longer videos and the research and dedication that goes into them. Like music, as time goes on, it's more difficult to find solid youtube creators. Looking forward to wherever this channel goes in future.
I like how this guy recognizes that some of the jokes aren’t okay but still praises the game, that’s how it should be, if more people took a learn to evolve with the times approach instead of a blanket cancel culture approach there wouldn’t be such a kickback to things most people can generally agree upon.
I love the jokes and still think they’re funny! But that’s my opinion and I agree with you. It’s great to see others have a different opinion without taking to Twitter to try and cancel it.
Turns out, the flag mission from the original Bad Fur Day was actually added as one of the stages for the newly added "Chapter X" in Live and Reloaded.
I was introduced to Conker over a Skype chat and the first thing I saw was the boss fight with the cave man ( yup ass jiggle physics and all ) Then I was shown the great mighty poo fight. I hope one day I get to play this game
the video made me realize that I never finished the game, cause my ex-friends and I would spend *days* sniping the stuffing out of each other as teddyz in total war. I say ex-friends cause this multi, much like monopoly, will end your relationships.
I always thought this game was as impressive as the Resident Evil 2 port. Just HOW did they manage to fit so much voiced dialogue as well as the amazing graphics (for the N64) into just 64MB?
Even if you didn’t grow up with this game, there’s a very nostalgic element to it, as one of the last N64 games released. Kids who were only 5 or 6 when the console debuted would have been entering high school when Conker came out. The console and its audience journeyed together from a carefree 90’s childhood with Mario & Banjo to the pretty scary early years of the 2010s, where they met Conker, with his gory, foul-mouthed game and downer ending. In Mario 64 in 1996, you throw Bower by his tail into some bombs…CBFD in 2001 you’re in a very similar battle, but you’re a pissed off squirrel in a mech suit, trying instead to throw an alien. It’s a fascinating journey on which to reflect.
Oh boy I just found your channel through your banjo retrospectives last week and was a little sad that you had not covered conker yet - glad I subscribed though because BAM here we are!!! Can't wait to watch this, one of my all time favorite N64 games. Keep up the good work, you got a new fan!
Such a great retrospective! I grew up with the Live and Reloaded version, and I absolutely LOVED it. I never had an N64 to play the original (I've interestingly been 'told off' a few times for being nostalgic for L&R, which is just dumb in so many ways, forcing their own nostalgia on someone who never experienced it that way xD) I'm grateful for the Xbox version because I would have never gotten to experience it as a kid otherwise. I definitely want to give BFD a go one day in the future if I ever got the chance, but it was great to watch your video and interesting to see the comparisons - I realise I had never properly seen many videos on BFD before this, I love how expressive the animations are!
That's super cool! I don't know anybody who grew up with L&R who didn't play BFD beforehand haha, but for what it's worth I don't think it's a bad way to first experience the game. I'd definitely recommend picking up Rare Replay if you have an Xbox One or Series X/S, that's definitely the best way to play BFD now. And yeah those animations are amazing! Especially considering the hardware.
The multiplayer in Live & Reloaded was crazy addictive. I couldn't put it down back in the day. The whole SHC vs Tediz lore was also pretty interesting. I enjoyed how the battles spanned different past/future eras.
Was really excited to see this. Such a unique game that we probably won't ever see again. Awesome video again man. Nice you uploaded this on the anniversary. 👌
dude, how the hell do you not have like 200k subs right now????? the quality is impeccable! your voice sounds clear and easy to follow. you don’t leave dead air in the video when talking. you show relevant clips regarding each topic of the vid. and the editing is flawless. dude…you’re killing it! remember me when you blow up !
Brilliant and well constructed video! This is my 1st video after subbing and binging your Banjo videos, glad to be here for Conker's 20th. ✌ Keep up the good work!
Man This is probably the best conker relted video to date. Thank you for making it and bringin it all together the way you did. The man who voiced Conker gave a real, but also very bittersweet reason as to why a sequel may not come back; When u make something that was in its prime u kinda have a time limit on mkin a sequel. Striking while the iron is hot, so to speak. Seeing as how too much time has passed, the magic that u made once in the past may not be realzied cuz of how life works on people over time. And on top of that, unfortunately due to sales and business related reasons, this dream of a sequel didnt happen and now in our day n age it just wont happen unless a team of dyhard fans is able to make one. Similar to how Sonic Mania was created.
I don't care what anybody says that game shaped me in my childhood and that was freaking awesome I loved every second of the day playing it I can remember hearing my grandmother coming into the room telling me to turn that s*** off🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, I'm sick of hearing people say that a joke didn't age well. You can't say that one type of joke is acceptable, but another type isn't. Matt and Trey put it best when they said, "Either it's all OK, or none of it's ok." You, yourself said humor is subjective. When speaking of the toilet humor, you made sure to let your audience know that you recognize that as a preference. But when it came to the sexual assault jokes, you didn't recognize them as a preference. You stated that those jokes are "wrong", contradicting yourself. When you made that statement, it didn't really sound genuine. You sound like you're only saying it, because you think it's what we want to hear. Which is really insulting, in my opinion. I was repeatedly sexualy assaulted by someone I was supposed to trust. He lived in my home, and I couldn't make him leave. I was so stressed out, I had to take heavy duty psych meds, to make me sleep, so I could carry out my responsibilities. I'd wake up with him sodomizing me. If I confronted him, he would make the situation so horrible, I'd stop arguing, because I couldn't handle any more stress. But then one day I snapped and beat his face so badly, his tooth went through his lip, and broke off in my finger. I dislocated his nose and burst blood vessels in his eyes. I strangled him until he passed out. I only stopped because I thought I killed him. He moved out the same day. He'll never bother me again. I don't want sympathy. I don't want people to avoid edgy jokes, or walk on eggshells, and I don't EVER want to be called a victim. I thought I was a victim, for a long while. But when I got rid of that victim mentality, shit got done. After all that, I stand my ground with comedy. Either it's all allowed, or none of it's allowed. And just because a joke, word, or phrase ages, doesn't mean it's suddenly offensive.
Just wanted to point out ive never had an issue with the spinning controls on the boss fight at 30:55. That was definitely something going wrong on your end.
I enjoyed this retrospective of Conker. I personally grew up with Conker’s Bad Fur Day on the 64 when I was a kid. In fact, I was one of those kids who was able to convince his parents to let him buy the game when it first came out. I also got to play the Xbox version of the game which I thought was good, but the original will always hold a special place in my heart. In fact, I consider CBFD to be the best game I have ever played because of the level of creative passion that went into it. So many games today reek of corporate cash grabs. Yeah, the new games might be playable, depending on how many bugs are left in. Yeah, you might even play the game for hundreds of hours, exploring, collecting, killing, racing, puzzle-solving, etc. However, is it fun? Honestly, the last time I had fun, true fun, and thoroughly enjoyed a game it was Conker’s Bad Fur Day. Nothing else I have played in the last 23 years has come close.
Happy 20th Anniversary Conker’s Bad Fur Day. I first played the game on Rare Replay and while it was pretty challenging I had a lot of fun with it. Hope to see Conker in a new adventure... or as a Smash fighter...
I remember in school, other kids would whisper to each other about Conker when the teacher's weren't around, "You gotta check it out, there's a singing poop. Funniest shit I ever seen." I remember the remake coming out and being so hyped for it I wanted to buy an XBox just to have my own copy. Didn't quite get that far, and probably for the best. A lot of people really wanted a true sequel to Bad Fur Day and while I get it (I'm one of them) I agree, it just wouldn't be the same thing it was back then. For one thing, the full scope of Conker's outrageous humour is still impressive, but not quite the rarity it was back in its day. Hundreds of games these days revel in an off the wall tone or use humour as a selling point. The Conker sequel we want just wouldn't have the same impact.
I became a phenom at the shooting mechanics. When I was 12-15, a couple friends and I unironically treated the multiplayer, specifically war/deathmatch, as our main go-to multiplayer game, with Perfect Dark and Starcraft being our side games. I actually always loved the last 3 chapters of the campaign specifically because of how much I liked the gunplay.
Same here. This is why my biggest complain about the remake is completely different multiplayer.I would love the original multiplayer to be remade with online mode.
@@mattjackson2799 Yeah, I definitely prefer the original multiplayer, but I had a bit of fun with the revamped one. It was essentially a terribly imbalanced version of Battlefield, which was a really novel and exciting concept at the time for people who didn't have a gaming PC.
@@Summer_Tea Yeah but I prefer being able to pick up and change weapons rather than having them tied to a weight class. The weapons in original were kind of unbalanced too but the most powerful weapons (such as bazooka) were often somewhere in the middle of the map and you can die before even getting there and when you die you lose your weapons anyway. I also prefer original squirrels and tediz design. But original had other modes besides war which were fun too such as raptor, heist and beach. Not to mention in death match mode you could go to bathrooms and pee on each other which was hilarious.
Finally a video that doesn't go on about the Great Mighty you know what for over half the video. Great review and for me, best game on the N64. A masterpiece of its time
Gaming journalists in the late 90s/early 2000s: "Rare is making too many games in the same cutesy platformer style! Something has to change!" Those same journalists in the 2020s, when every game is either the same copy-and-paste open-world experience or the same old self-aggrandizing "watch some cinematics and maybe you'll get a quicktime event" type of "artsy" game that Sony loves: "oH mY gOd MaStErPiEcE!!11"
I like how live and reloaded made the gunplay more fun to use thanks to the halo controls, but imo the combat with the bat is way less fun than the frying pan.
I think I had the same amount of fun in Banjo Kazooie as Conker. Conker is bursts of great fun with some set pieces between the good bits, Banjo is just decent fun spread pretty evenly through the whole game
Absolutely fantastic look at this classic game, dude. It's awesome to see how much this video has blown up! Very well deserved! And I'm not gonna lie...I LOVE the Sunflower XD but I get that it's a very crass and low hanging fruit.
This game held up like a gem over time of an era that is long since gone but this game will forever remain, that and the multiplayer was baller when you and 3 mates would go to dino rumble and try to steal eggs
Another great video - appreciate the work you put into these 🙏 The comparison to the Xbox remake was an interesting comparison too - would definitely be keen on seeing more content which discusses remakes or reimaginings and how they deviate from the originals. I think the assumption is that remake = better but there are plenty of cases (like CBFD) where that isn't the case
Cookers bad for day was possibly my favourite game growing up. I would replay the matrix section near the end over and over. But the whole game was amazing.
It was amazing How you felt when you realized you had to fight past that beach on it's war is gave you a fraction of the feeling those brave men had storming those beaches
Literally just ran through this game on my N64 for like the hundredth time last month but I played through BFD this time with a N64 Brawler controller and my god am I never going back I highly recommend it the Spooky level and Its War were so much more playable
I love this video! Conker's BFD is one of a kind, I wish more games like this existed. And I wanted to add on a bit about the censorship on Live and Reloaded. As you mentioned the game was going to be uncensored, but major retailer refused to sell the game if it was left uncensored. So Microsoft and Rare had to bite the bullet, and heavily censor it. Though Chris Seavor mentions a well-timed bleep, can be funny. Also there was originally a cameo from Master Chief in the electric chair scene, but had to be changed at the request of Bungie.
I always found it weird how Chris Seavor points to the sunflower sequence as the one he's ashamed of over the sequence with the cogs. I mean, the bee cheating on his wife to 'pollinate' the sunflower is skeevy (though I find it weird how some people think the sunflower's boobs are the offensive part. Giving a sunflower boobs is the funny part of the segment and didn't need the more sexual bits), but the cogs are so much worse.
12:55 The moment you said this, my brain immediately recalled the music and it's been stuck in my head ever since and I can't sleep now. Thanks a lot, dick!
The multiplayer on this game was the first time i ever stayed up until 6 am gaming with my friend back in 6th grade. We do it every single weekend. Got so many amazing hours of that game.
My mom bought this game for me after seeing the bull cow prune juice shit scene when we were renting it. I was banned from bringing it to my neighbors house whenever I went over there. LOL. I remember beating it the first time though and was surprisingly sad at the end. Conkers speech at the end hits pretty hard. I was around 10 years old at the time.

Not to mention the multiple game over screens that vary depending on when and how you die. In typical Rare fashion, they're mortifying and disturbing, but this was the first Rare game that had more than ONE.
Very true, even though there was only probably a few, it SEEMED endless and made you anticipate the brutal new ways conker would be delivered
Sad we never had a follow up to this gem. It really is something special.
Agreed. It'd be awesome if there was a proper sequel to this game
The Xbox version improves it in quite a few ways, I would recommend playing it if you never have and are a big fan of the original. It's not a totally different game, but it's a welcome change when going for a replay
chris seaver basicity said a conker sequel could never be made today with out them getting sued.

His tail does have incredible animation! It's something I would have mentioned in the video but I had to trim out some details to cut the video length down a bit. According to the developer commentary they emulated the way a bag of air would float when animating the tail, and I think they nailed that feeling of a free-floating object anchored to something.

Ikr? I absolutely adore this game, and I just hope that Rare will create a CBFD 2, or Conker's Other Bad Fur Day.

"Hey, let's make a joke about oral sex being forced on women."
Intead I think they were just like "Hey, if the hole in the cog was their mouth, then putting it on a peg looks like it's giving head." ...and they didn't take the implications of the whole thing seriously.
Also, the male cog gets his comeuppance in the end and the female cogs are freed and take their revenge, so it's all fine."
If someone pointed out how fucked up it was, you would've been like.. "Yeah, it's terrible what's happening here. What's your point?"
But now, we're always like "What kind of message is this sending?"
As if every game was a teaching tool for children.
Or we think "What's the dev trying to imply with this?"
As if every game was a statement.
Or we go "How is this going to affect people that play it?"
As if every game was propaganda.
Fact is, this is a game for adults. If you're old enough to play it and haven't already made up your mind about how to think about sexually questionable scenarios like these, then the game should be the least of your worries.
that's a pretty bad take.
@@technopoptart I'm open to hear your argument.
I agree to this.

And shut up.
South park gets away with all this to this day.
@@ShyGuyXXL well it is a two-part thing so please bear with me, also please do understand i loved this game as a kid and played it a LOT so i am not coming at it from an outsider perspective;
the first bit is pretty simple, in the late nineties/early oughts there already was an outcry over rape. it was not fully encompassed but it did exist and it was generally seen as something that wasn't ok. the issue was though that there wasn't(and often still isn't) any repercussion for rape unless it is done by certain kinds of people to certain other kinds of people in specific ways with the rape itself coming in second to the perceived value of each party involved. making rape jokes is a natural(though unpleasant) response to something so deeply embedded in the culture but also not so acceptable that it becomes boring and without note. the fact that rape is used as the punishment for the cog that asked you to do this for him is itself a sign that even when this was made there was an understanding that rape was bad and unpleasant(though rape as a punishment for rape is a whole entire other problem in and of itself). you can make the claim they didnt think it out very far but you cannot deny that they knew what sort of joke they were making and knew that it was going to upset and offend(which was the entire point of adding it).
the second part, and the bit that led me to make my comment, is that just attaching the cog by the mouth to the psudo-penis of another cog isn't the full premise; you are offered compensation to find, assault, kidnap and return(while they are screaming for help and begging not not be raped) several cogs THEN you, and specifically you, help the cog forcefully penetrate each of them with the implicit understanding that they are not consenting and do not want this after which you are rewarded. keep in mind also that at the end the punishment the rapist cog gets is to be penetrated as well with the punchline of the joke being that rape is a punishment if it is gay penetration and rape is only fun for the perpetrator(you the player of course are not punished in any way for helping and participation is mandatory for progression so you cannot avoid it if you want to keep playing the game). the punchline could not work if the creators did not understand that rape is not ok and is a bad thing to have happen to someone.
the set-up and knock-down is just a combination of the rape-revenge fantasy and the gay prison joke. it is supposed to be perverse because it is cogs, an otherwise inanimate object, but the joke in the end isn't about mouths it is about how consent changes sex for men.
thanks for reading all of this, not sure if it changes your position or not but i am at least grateful for the opportunity to have my own position heard
[Though I wouldn't mind being around Quentin. ;) (That's the gay version's name)]
Is it because they just don't like to hang on a wall?
The only problem I have with that whole chapter is that we never got to hear Mr. Big Cog's opinion on anything.
I guess he's not too talkative with that rod in his mouth. :P
By the way, notice how Conker never had anything bad to say about Quentin's gayness? Only his snobbishness. They could've easily made Conker call him a queer or something, but they showed some restraint. So I guess at least Conker's not homophobic. :P
But I digress.
And to that I'd say, "Yes, that's the point."
i still have windy playing in my head 20 years later :D
I used to want a sequel to this game but honestly Bad Fur Day is an example of a perfect storm culminating in a unique experience. The magic would lose its luster if there was another one
I don't know, Live and Loaded didnt ruin the magic and it took a bunch of liberties changing the game. I'd be down for another one in this day and age as long as people like Zach Hadel and Chris Oneil were writers behind it.
Say that we almost get a sequel, but get canceled.
What if ryan renolds directed it?
@Zigeal⛧Faust also that it was xbox live. Lol had some fun times
Conker's Bad Fur Day is actually really similar to Gex, and somehow I didn't realize that until just now.
No. Gex is terrible.
@@bennischlawenni7978 How does Gex suck? I find the games good.
@@Enigmaculate Conker has pretty much same type of humor as south park so I dont see the issue.
This channel is the definition of a SUPER Severely underrated channel!! I just find this channel a few weeks and ago and IMMEDIATELY Subbed in the middle of my 1st video and was taken aback when I noticed how many subs u had... plenty much love I really enjoy your content!
I loved Rock solids theme so much that I would leave my Nintendo on just to jam out before RUclips was a thing. I still listen to it to this day.
The Sunflower scene was my favorite and freaking hilarious.
NOW WE NEED LIVE & RELOADED i lovedddd that game so much
The way this game unfolded from the cartoony settings into the zombie and war levels is so artistically bold.
Amazing this guy is incredible! Has the perfect voice for it and goes in depth. Cannot wait for paper Mario TTYD 🔥
As a teen, playing capture the flag in this game listening to weird al and drinking jolt with my friends was one of the highlights of my life.
Ikr?
over the top gore and giant singing turds are fine but a bee fucking a sunflower isnt?
Turns out, the flag mission from the original Bad Fur Day was actually added as one of the stages for the newly added "Chapter X" in Live and Reloaded.
I was looking for a conker retrospective yesterday and now you uploaded one!! :D
I was introduced to Conker over a Skype chat and the first thing I saw was the boss fight with the cave man ( yup ass jiggle physics and all )
Then I was shown the great mighty poo fight.
I hope one day I get to play this game

CONKER CONTENT IN 2021!!??? VERY POGGERSS
I genuinely have a ton of respect for the creators keeping the war section and ending relatively serious and bitter/bittersweet.
I used to be addicted to the multiplayer. At that time I never experienced anything like it
the video made me realize that I never finished the game, cause my ex-friends and I would spend *days* sniping the stuffing out of each other as teddyz in total war.
I say ex-friends cause this multi, much like monopoly, will end your relationships.
I just stumbled on this guy's videos and can't get enough. Absolute A+ content man (but he probably already knows that)
It's always great to watch your deep-dives, and this was high-quality as usual! Good stuff!
I always thought this game was as impressive as the Resident Evil 2 port. Just HOW did they manage to fit so much voiced dialogue as well as the amazing graphics (for the N64) into just 64MB?
mp3
Another excellent breakdown. I wish there were infinite N64 games for you to review like this. Perfect Dark and Bomberman 64 would be awesome to see.
Very true, reminded me kinda like a halo/Terminator multiplayer game
Conker is the reason why Red Squirrels were and still are my favorite animals when I was a child.
Was really excited to see this. Such a unique game that we probably won't ever see again. Awesome video again man. Nice you uploaded this on the anniversary. 👌
Conkers Bad Fur Day is amazing and the need to release the sequel that got cancelled.
Just imagine having Conker, Sticks The Badger, Pinkie Pie, Freakazoid and Deadpool in the same room.
That could end up really good or really bad.

Conker:"Whatcha talkin bout Ali?"
Sticks:"Yeah! We are a dream cast!"
I just seen this video 2yrs after the making. Love the video man!
dude, how the hell do you not have like 200k subs right now????? the quality is impeccable! your voice sounds clear and easy to follow. you don’t leave dead air in the video when talking. you show relevant clips regarding each topic of the vid. and the editing is flawless. dude…you’re killing it! remember me when you blow up !
A true classic, Rares magnum opus. 20 years later and I wish I could go back and play it again as a teenage edgy boi.
Brilliant and well constructed video!
This is my 1st video after subbing and binging your Banjo videos, glad to be here for Conker's 20th. ✌
Keep up the good work!
Yeah, we're lucky to have this game! It's one of a kind, never to be repeated, and that's for the best! Great video!
This adult cartoon kinda took influence from adult animal movies like Fritz the Cat and Meet the Feebles
I'm so glad I just found this channel, can't wait to binge it all night after work
Wish they made a remake of this game, been 10 years since I played Conker and will never forget this game.
There was an xbox remake a few years back.
What a perfect video! One of my favorite N64 games, I’ve played it more times than I can count!
The multiplayer on this is game is a gem. I had so much fun with it, especially cause each time was way different but well balanced.
Excellent game made in circumstances we probably won’t ever see again. So glad we have this!
Can’t believe I played this game when I was a kid
Play Smash Remix, Conker is playable.
I remember in school, other kids would whisper to each other about Conker when the teacher's weren't around, "You gotta check it out, there's a singing poop. Funniest shit I ever seen."
I remember the remake coming out and being so hyped for it I wanted to buy an XBox just to have my own copy.
Something has to change!"
Those same journalists in the 2020s, when every game is either the same copy-and-paste open-world experience or the same old self-aggrandizing "watch some cinematics and maybe you'll get a quicktime event" type of "artsy" game that Sony loves: "oH mY gOd MaStErPiEcE!!11"
He's basically the Deadpool of video game mascots.
Coop was so fun on a split screen as a kid. So many creative game modes
One of the best games today, brownie points for having so many adult themes for N64, beautiful
Another great video - appreciate the work you put into these 🙏
The comparison to the Xbox remake was an interesting comparison too - would definitely be keen on seeing more content which discusses remakes or reimaginings and how they deviate from the originals. I think the assumption is that remake = better but there are plenty of cases (like CBFD) where that isn't the case
Cookers bad for day was possibly my favourite game growing up. I would replay the matrix section near the end over and over. But the whole game was amazing.
This was my 1st favorite game. So many laughs and so much intrigue. For a 2nd grader lol. Fr. This game made me.
I feel like if they got the crew behind It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia to write something with Conker it would be god tier
One of my all time favorite games.
