Storyline:
"Three outlaws lay siege to an aged prospector's shack, hoping to steal the old man's gold. Hoss happens along and, attacked by the outlaws, takes shelter in the shack. There he meets the prospector - and Walter. Walter, Hoss learns, is the prospector's dog - seemingly almost as old as the prospector, and endowed with special talents for convincing the old prospector that Walter is as animated and talkative as the prospector himself. Faced with what seems to be ongoing and very silent slumber from Walter, Hoss is mystified. Meanwhile, two of the three outlaws repeatedly renew an ongoing brawl between themselves. The third outlaw, their leader, tries to get them to patch up their differences and keep their minds on the gold. As often as they stop quarreling though, the two manage to find a pretext to forget about the gold and start tussling with one another once again. Hoss is left with the challenge of finding a way, along with the old prospector and with Walter, to vanquish the three feckless outlaws attempting to bumble their way into possession of the gold in the shack." Reviews:
"I've been a huge Bonanza fan since the 1960s and this is definitely one of the 10 best episodes from the series (Along with most of the Ben wife flashbacks, the episode "Hayburner", and a few others). In this classic comedy tale, character actor Arthur Hunnicutt (who basically, always played himself) has a lazy hound dog named Walter. The dog barely moves throughout the entire story yet Hunnicutt will spout off lines like "I haven't seen Walter this excited since he was a pup." The story is also one of the classic Bonanza themes of Hoss having that innocent trust of others that gets him sucked into something he shouldn't because of it (Little Joe, of course, certainly knew how to use this against him and it's one of the reasons everyone loved Dan Blocker as Hoss). At first, Hoss doesn't understand the so-called feedback that Hunnicutt gets from the always inanimate Walter, but by the end of the story, Hoss has become a Walter interpreter, too -- to the amazement of the rest of the Cartrights. This episode even inspired a sequel that was almost as good as this original.
Personal note: My live-in girlfriend in 1980 had a small female puppy for awhile. I don't remember the dog's actual name but I always called her Walter (in honor of this episode)." Written by paulw-18 on IMDb.com
"While just minding his own business Hoss Cartwright happens to ride into three outlaws James Luisi, Vic Werber and Steve Brodie who are keeping old prospector Arthur Hunnicutt and his old hound dog Walter pinned down in his cabin with a rather large poke from months of prospecting.
Hunnicutt ain't worried about a thing because his dog Walter is taking a rather complacent view of the situation. In fact he's most communicative to Hunnicutt and after a while Dan Blocker gets the dog's drift.
The three crooks are pretty lame excuses for same. As John Wayne said in The Shootist,"this line of work don't fit your pistol".
This is one pretty funny episode." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com
"Here is another show with Arthur Hunnicutt in it, El Dorado & even the Andy Griffith show he was a great actor. The dog Walter in this Bonanza Episode I think is the same dog used in Season5, Episode 6 of Andy Griffith & Barney called him Blue. Both shows the dog seems to be out of it & not much good to Barney or Obie so close to Opie. Both Episodes are worth the watch & make you laugh which is a good thing. Shame a lot the the good actors are gone but the old shows keep them alive in our hearts." Written by greggaver on IMDb.com

'He reads lips.'
Through the back of his eyelids.. 😄
Adam and Joe’s reaction when she pokes Adam💀🤣
You'll have to excuse Walter for not getting up. He's had a hard day!😂😂😂
This episode is equivalent to Home Alone 😂😂😂
This is hilarious. It's worth watching just for the good byes between Little Joe and Bessie Sue. 🤣
Bessie Sue is huge for sure, what a backside!!! Secondly, can't help wondering why Michael Landon (Lil' Joe) never wore underwear....
@@lifeisgood1222 Some say "Landon also wore very tight pants with no underwear because he thought his rear end would be a huge ratings draw for women viewers" "Landon hated wearing underwear on set" "Landon enjoyed parading around the set. She said, “he knew he was sexy, and made sure everyone else knew it, too.”" "Landon’s attire on the set as Charles Ingalls (little House) was made up of his suspenders, wide-brimmed hat, and “the tightest pants you ever saw,” according to the Nellie Oleson actor. Arngrim observed that it was quite difficult to ignore the former Bonanza star’s glaring lack of undergarments.
His choice to not wear “a stitch of underwear” shocked her and the rest of the cast. “It was the 1970s, so tight jeans and no underwear was a popular fashion statement in Hollywood,” she wrote.
“But no underwear beneath his Charles Ingalls homespun trousers? In the 1800s? What on earth was he thinking?”
As Arngrim noted in her memoir, Landon’s wardrobe choice was not done by chance since “the largest part of our viewing audience at that point was women age 40-plus.”
“Michael knew exactly what they liked,” she said. “So the pants remained tight, the underwear remained in the drawer, and the shirt stayed off, displaying his even, perfectly tan chest, totally hairless, with the wide suspenders crossing right next to each nipple.”"
One of the episodes ever. Hoss could not shut his mouth after dem hot spicy beans, reminds me of when i bit into a hot potato and could not swallow nor spit it as we had visitors, worst dilemma ever.....
Hilarious expressions
This is so funny, couldn't stop laughing, brilliant acting, the looks the Cartwrights had on their faces at the end when they see Walter... priceless..
It’s So Funny how Hoss turns bright Red man So Funny 😂!
This was such a hilarious episode. The dog that played "Walter" was also in other TV shows, including several episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. He played Barney's useless "bloodhound," and Goober's "talking" dog.
Wow! Bet that Walter made more money than I do.
Walter also looks like the dog in Hazel
@Soulaesthete. Barney's bloodhound's name was "Blue" and Goober's "talking" dog's name was "Spot." Goober gave him that name because "he had no spots."
And I betcha he was rescued from a shelter.
That was hilarious when Hoss took a mouthful of the old prosecutor's chili and his face turned red! Lol.
The look on Hoss’s face even Walter managed to open his eyes to watch Hoss ! I sure like Walter and those 3bungling crooks I don’t think they could ever really rob a bank they’d trip over themselves!!haha
The western version of 'Home Alone'
One of the funniest episodes, hilarious. 😂
It’s not often you see an actor nail a part like this. Really bring it to life and take it to a whole new level. Truly talented. Nice work Walter.
Walter needs a post humous Oscar!
I would love to take that dog home with me .
"Walter is deep, REAL DEEP." Ahahahahaaaaa
Arthur Hunnicutt STOLE this show. He was a great actor, and he should have been more than a character actor. He was brilliant. When I was a kid, I knew of many of these old desert rats, Obie was a treasure and represented all of those old rats that I knew. They are all gone, now, and I miss every one of them. ❤️
Isnt he the one with John Wayne in eldorado?
Yes. Arthur Hunnicutt played, Bull, on the movie, El Dorado.
@@jayham1970 thanks! Now watching s11 ep11, he's in it
I love Walter! Oh, thank you for such funny episode. Warm greetings from Portugal.
I love Bonanza ❤️, I love this funny episode ❤️🥰, I love Wolter 👍😊, love Hoss🤠🏇🌵. Greetings from Poland 💖
@@jadwigadwojak197 and Bessie Sue!
Hahahahahahaha! This was genius writing! Loved Walter's eyes opening wide at 47:20 after Little Joe says his name.
This is the funniest episode ever of Bonanza. I literally laughed out loud the entire show. So funny, cute story. Hoss was the best!
Yessssssss!!!!
I also like the episodes "Hoss and the Leprechauns."
I second that motion . I love that dog .
I glad you enjoyed it. I'd looking for years for this one. And It is the funniest episode ever
I agree. I was cracking up every time they’d show Walter after giving him credit for all the happenings. 😄
Walter and the outlaws is hilarious too!!!
I'm loving the humor in this episode. Refreshing
Always liked this episode. Walter is a jewel. So funny!
One of the funniest episodes I've seen.
Awesome to hear that! Thanks for tuning in! 🤠✌🍿🎬
These guys are sure funny, one of their funniest!!
This episode is so hilarious!!!!!! Laughing my ass off... Hos's face towards Walter is priceless
And after the beans, too. I could almost see cartoon smoke coming out his ears.
His face was so red it looked like a tomato.
3 years without a dog so that was a great episode.Rock on Walter.
I want Walter as my personal advisor. Great episode!
Walter so relaxed and wise! I laughed so hard on this one! Wonderful show with all the family!
Walter was the best guest actor Bonanza ever had! He just played the part so well, and made look like his regular job!
@@johnmatullo773 Amen
@@johnmatullo773 Amen to Walter's natural acting ability and ease.
🤣 The dog thought of it 🤣
@@janejones5362 that's a good one. This bonanza episode was hilarious!
I just love the fight scenes. When actors were the stunt men and there was not a camera cut every 2 seconds.
Watch a "Modern" fight sequence and count the camera cuts in a 1 minute fight scene. These guys really earned their money.
I wish our world had more Bonanza shows now. The younger generation will never know the classy and hilarious stuff we had as kids to watch. ❤️❤️
True!!
Spot on!! You can be funny and not have to be vulgar.
Vulgarity is for hacks. I LOVED when Will Smith told chris rock where to get off. Someone needs to out that lizard in his place.
@@janejones5362 The Lizard" Lay in the violence provoked by Smith's classless wife!
This episode reminds me of home alone the first one
I wish they had kept Bessy Sue for a few episodes 😂
" Cindy ain't half the gal Bessie Sue is."
" What girl is?" 😹
Yup, she would've been fun to see on a few more shows. Who is she btw?
@@belbal5004 Katherine Barrett. She was a Minnesota based actress. Not much information on her. She had a few but parts. She was funny!
That was hilarious. 😂
Great writing, sound character development, good editing.
Thank you!!😁😀
That Walter sure is one smart doggie. Yes him is.
U mean "he" not "him." I value grammer.
@@charlesgomon8291 with respect to you sir- grammar
@@charlesgomon8291 The poor grammer was probably meant as a joke. At least I hope it is. So many of these comments are full of poor grammar and spelling mistakes.😣

Thank you Charles Godspeed!
Best episode of Bonanza, two episodes of Walter was just not enough
The comedies are the BEST! 😂
OMGOSH!! This was like watching a western version of the 3 stooges! Hilarious!😂😂😂
Hahaha, the three stooges. And mutt and Jeff
Fun episode I truly enjoyed it

I love Walter he was so calm , This is another funny episode , I laugh so much. Thanks for this video. RIP 9 Dan Blocker) Hoss Cartwright you are still live in my heart.
Love you Walter!❤❤❤❤❤ The crooks keep wanting to beat each other up!!😆😆😆😆😆
Great acting from Walter
Prestigious Canine Academy 🤣 just joshin'
What are we going to do about Covid-19? Don't worry, old Walter will think of something.
60 Years Later. This Episode is still Hilarious 🤣😆😆😆😆😆
Hahaha I sure like this episode
The fight between the two brothers in the beginning was very cool. Anyone notice when any eating is done, the EXACT same blue plates and cups are used in all the episodes? Hoss's face turning red with the fire beans got me busting a gut laughing. The dog had his head on a bag of gold, and the scenes up to that he did not. A lack of continuity for sure. I have been laughing as well, I ended up waking Carol, my roommate from a nice nap, and she was not happy. Oops.
The more I watch this episode I come to the conclusion that Walter is not a dog he's a wizard
That hound dog Walter kinda grows on you. This Episode is hilarious!
Walter is the funniest dog ever love this episode 😂😂😂👍
Hoss hit that where have you been biilly boy ❤️❤️
This just became my favorite one to watch 😂
I love the way Obie hands Hoss the rifle then checks the checker board before he goes to shooting out the window.Such priority. Brilliant writing.
Walter's probably the smartest guest star on Bonanza .. 😉
A real funny episode
Ol Walter must have some real powerful esp, going on here, ha. Too fun, them two jaspers were confused about who they were supposed to be fighting?
I love Walter 🤩
Gotta love Walter.
He's sharp as a tack.
This is CLASSIC Bonanza.
Arthur Hunnicutt had another dog named Rip in The Twilight Zone episode called The Hunt
Thanks for sharing. Watch your channel every night for bonanza!
Happy to hear that, thanks for tuning in so frequently! 🤠👌🎬🍿
One of my favorite episodes…the other is Hoss and the Leprechauns. ❤️
Thanks for watching! Check out this film as well if you haven't already: ruclips.net/video/neVv7mHJ_5A/видео.html
I tune in everyday for new episodes
One of my all time favorites.
I used to watch bonanza with my daughter when she was a toddler into her early teens. And one time she had to write a paper on a favorite show in 8th grade so she wrote one on bonanza. The teacher had no idea what the show was she had to google it because it was way before her time. The teacher called my daughter an old soul.
I love this episode
I love Bonanza- but found this episode funny that the outlaws sound more like NY gangsters than cowboys. 😂
They could definitely be carpet baggers
Aww Walter is so cute, great doggy actor.
" someone down there has a evil mind " I'm pretty sure it's Walter as I know the kind !
תודה מישראל אחלה 🎀
Greatest doggy episode ... especially for doggy lovers like me .
Everyone needs a Walter
Walter is the best actor in this film. Arthur Hunnicutt always a delight to watch in whatever role he acts.
My favorite Bonanza episode of all time.
Those two battling, bad boys Must have been brothers!!!
Hoss really made that series!!
Walter is the coolest shot caller..ever
Lmao!! Well put!!
“Aintchu ever known Walter to be wrong?!” 🤣🤣
👍👌👏 Another great comedy episode. Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old series.
Best regards luck and health.
My Favorite Yet!!!!!!
⭐
Look out house Cartwright be careful bad guys are shooting at you hope they miss love the Bonanza
I like this one too but I most like the one with the leprechaun with the Gold
I Love Walter!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣My Dad used to cook the chili beans very hot, too. And Hoss is showing exactly the reaction of our guests, whenever my Dad invited someone for a Wild West dinner 🤣🤣🤣 (we used to eat them with lots of bread and milk and were kind of used to it. What a precious memory!!!😅😂
Frijoles con leche??? 😃😃
I like Bessie Sue...the way Adam was looking at her haha same with Lil Joe.
This episode reminds of the Droopy cartoon about the two robbers trying to rob the safe without success .
Walter the dog seemed to be a good chess player, watching all them fight, in the cabinet. Like his eyes were saying, "If my boss don't win this fight, I'm getting up out of there.' He really act like a really smart dog, sleeping mostly, but would open his eyes in an instant if there was trouble.
Great episode,
30:47 "Hoss wouldn't do that to us .... Would he?!"
Walter!!Lol 😂 🐶🤎
This one was too funny 🤣
Those two “bad” guys that are always fighting are hilarious. Al of the actors did a great job. This is the second time I’m watching this. I’ll watch it again later.
