  • Welcome to the GREAT BOTANICAL JOURNEY! Join me as I visit Ruby Orchids in Auckland, New Zealand to hear all about what they do!
Click here to see the next video in this series: • Visiting a FLOWER FARM...
In this new series I want to go behind the scenes and discover where our flowers come from. As a floral designer if I can’t find the flowers or foliage I want for a design in my garden, then it’s just a matter of a trip to my local flower market. As I cast my eyes over buckets and buckets of flowers, I got to thinking - somewhere, someone grows all these and I wonder what’s involved.
    Thus, the GREAT BOTANCIAL JOURNEY.
Its an adventure behind the scenes to I visit Ruby Orchids in Auckland, New Zealand to hear all about how to grow and care for Cymbidium Orchids.
AND the first flower under investigation is the magnificent boat orchid or cymbidium orchid. I chose this because it’s possibly on of the oldest blooms on the planet. Research reveals that they’ve been around since the time of the dinosaurs. Fancy that. They’ve long since gone, but the orchids continue to flourish!
A special note of thanks to both New Zealand Blooms and Ruby Orchids NZ for giving up your valuable time, at such a busy time of the year, to share what’s involved in growing the orchids we so love to create with. Ruby Orchids are available exclusively through New Zealand Bloom.
You can find Ruby Orchids at / rubyorchids.nz and / ruby.orchids.1

You’ve had a makeover, dear Astar! Wow! This video was a joy to watch! Never realized how labor-intensive this all is! My grandfather grew orchids for himself, and now I respect his success at it even more 🙏🏻 So glad to see you back, and with a new look! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!!!

Hi Converse, I'm pleased you found it interesting. My mission is to go behind the scenes and discover what's involved in growing the flowers we all love. Tbh, I have a greater appreciation. Very soon, we'll start releasing designs using cymbidiums. Warm regards Astar

Many thanks to the two nice ladies for the interesting conversation. I currently also have a pot of Cymbidium with eight ears of corn, some of which are already blooming.

Thank you. The history behind the cymbidium & orchid family really is a fascinating story. Who knew they outlived the dinosaurs & continue to grace us with their natural beauty. Warm regards Astar

Good to have a look behind the scenes. I once ordered Orchids for a pedestal I was doing and was astounded by the price. Now I appreciate the process behind growing them. No wonder they are expensive but oh so beautiful x

Oh, Astar~ You are even more beautiful with your hair change… I love it! You wear it well!
This was a fantastic video! I am loving your new series that you’re doing and am looking forward to more. I may no longer garden, as I’ve switched to totally forever botanicals - which changed my gardening focus in a big way, but Mother Nature and gardening still reside comfortably in my heart. Thank you! 💖
