Stoppp hearing you sad about the hexagon top breaks my heart you sounded so heart btoken! I know its not how you WANT it to be but youre stunning in it and it looks great!!! WE LOVE YOU IKOXUN
Silent watcher and crocheter right here. First of all, this is what a REAL crochet designing process looks like. This is exactly why I follow you. I follow you because I like raw videos where the artist "fucks up" sometimes, it reflects what real crocheting and knitting can look like. What you do is amazing, and I would hate it if you changed anything about your channel or videos. Sometimes I compare myself to other artists on social media and think "oh wow, I make so many mistakes", or "this isn't what I originally planned but theirs turned out amazing", but then I come here, I watch your videos, I breathe and realize, "no, this is okay. This is what being an artist is, I'm not the only one that struggles". I loved every piece. I look up to you, really. Thanks for the video and inspo!
Please don't be intimidated by sewing! The trick is to start with non-expensive fabric (like a simple cotton jersey), choose a basic pattern, and don't aim for perfection. Maybe you could start with a skirt? You would just have to sew two rectangles together, hem the bottom edge, and add an elastic to the top. I have a bunch of those skirts and they all look great despite my messy cutting/sewing. I recommend using wild patterns, so you can't see errors as quickly lol. You can do it!! 🎉
also it's far easier to sew with non-stretch fabric! I've been sewing for years and I still try to avoid stretch fabric because it's so annoying. And if you make a simple skirt like this, you don't have to worry about fit issues either because of the elastic. Also it's better if the skirt can't stretch out, especially if it's a long or very full one
thanks for the motivations 🥺 there are these tiered maxi skirt patterns that i've seen tutorials for on youtube that I do really want to try! Maybe I will start with those :')
I love seeing your trial and error in crochet cause it feels like i can see how your mind works and it’s so impressive, even when the results aren’t perfect you deserve to be sooooo proud of yourself for sticking through and working so hard!!! love whenever you post and it inspires me to immediately return to my projects!! :)))
Girl, you did amazing! I 100% understand the struggle with chrocheting around elastic. I discovered something called 'knitting elastic/elastic thread' which is clear and seamless and it made adding elastics to dainty pieces so much easier. It was an absolute game changer. I found mine at my local fabric store but you might be able to find it at other craft/yarn/fabric shops or online.
I just wanted to put in a good word for sewing. It may be frustrating, but using a pattern makes it easier. It’s so much faster than crocheting will ever be even with the set backs and going slow avoids set backs. This mindset allowed me to slow down and enjoy the process of sewing. Signed someone who has crocheted for 15 years and sewn for about 6 years. ❤
Every piece is beautiful! I especially love the last one, but I totally understand that you’re disappointed with it. You had a vision and worked so hard on it. But in my eyes, it’s so pretty! And I love all the colors together 😍😍😍
i appreciate so much how you explain your thought process in problem solving as you're developing these patterns. i've designed a few of my own very simple patterns over the last year or so, but wrote my first real written pattern with sewing involved today with your inspiration. thank you so much for your videos💛
omg congrats to you ! you're inspiring me now since I still haven't created a written pattern. I'm a bit afraid of making a mistake , especially when it comes to sizing, but I really want to since I have a lot of ideas for patterns.
Hey I've been crocheting for over a decade and I'm always so impressed by your ability to improvise and freehand projects without a pattern! I'm sorry the last top didn't work out because the inspo was adorable. I think your yarn choice was good, but maybe try working with more tension when using smaller yarns. I absolutely love your work on the whole though! Both your fiber art and your videos are amazing, and thank you for sharing the less than glamorous parts too.
Awwwwwww sweet heart! I absolutely love your videos, and my heart sank a bit when you were disappointed in the outcome of the last project, but I can TOTALLY UNDERSTAND because I've been there with projects related to sewing, refinishing furniture, etc, where you're trying to figure something out, devote a lot of time to it, something gets messed up, and the results are not what you had initially envisioned. I'm sure you KNOW this already but you are BRAVE with going ahead and trying to make, design, and figure out these projects from scratch! Not to mention you've only been doing crochet for a handful of years! I've been doing very small amounts of crochet on and off for maybe like ten or so years, but have taken many breaks of two years or more, on and off. It wasn't until this year that I actually got the hang of it and actually do some crochet consistently. But even then I'm still only making sample stitches and labeling/pinning notes on them and storing them in a large dish for references. And the only projects I've ever done have been coasters and placemats!!! Although I will say, those have been handy at the table, in the kitchen, and as gifts. I'm still at a point where I need to push myself to do something more complicated than THAT lol. I've really gotta do that this fall because there are so many things I know I'm missing out on... but you're going ahead and DOING THEM!!!
For the Kiara striped halter, I'd go with slip stitch in the middle when it goes around the neck so it would be less bulky. Also, yes, weight 2 or 3 yarn. Otherwise, adorable! Love!
I understand why you were disappointed with the hexagon top but to me it looks perfect with or without folding! All of the peaces were great, including the one you showed at the end. Good job again
These are so cool!! I love recreating stuff from movies, it's such a fun challenge. When I saw Lucy Gray's bikini, I also immediately wanted to make it. I do think that there was a picot stitch border around all the edges, but yours still looks awesome!! (Picot stitch - ch 2, slst into first ch)
You definitely have to try that first top with string elastic rather than that thick flat kind. It would have been sooooo much less of a headache! For your last top, since you sew, if you fold it, and zigzag stitch the bottom, you could cut off the excess!!
I think you should try to crochet a little bit tighter, since your gauge is always very loose, because then it would all be smaller and the last top could have looked the way you wanted it to.
you're so talented! i just want to add that you were probably frustrated sewing because you were sewing finicky fabrics! start with a simple project with non-stretchy fabrics(cotton, linen) and i promise you'd love sewing like i do! i recommend looking up indie sewing patterns :)
thanks i'll look into those patterns! I didn't know that fabrics could be easier / harder depending on the material -- so for now i'll stick with cotton & linen lol
Love your process and the finished Objects you ended up with. Quick note tho: gotta say there was a lot of struggle for me to hear you call those pentagons(five sides) hexagons (six sides) for about 12 minutes straight 🥲
For the Nicole top, the weight of the yarn is fine, even the hook size is okay. You just needed to have a tighter tension to make the stitches smaller and more compact, especially in the white sections.
omg I also recently started watching sex and the city and idk if I can recommend you continuing it but .... in the 1st episode of season 5, Carrie wears a really cute striped sweater that might be worth checking out
Cutting straight into the fabric is fine. Maybe some small tips: Try starting in a corner of the fabric instead of the middle. Most likely this will leave you with more left over fabric. If you have a hard surface to cut on, use it (table, wooden floor, maybe tiles) the carpet underneath makes it hard for you. Spandex and Jersey aren't prone to fraying but I personally would still zig zag stitch around it. And rather than leaving a sewing allowance for the free edges I would cut Spandex and Jersey to the exact size of your wished inlay. So you can avoid the bulkiness. You still need a small sewing allowance, where you wanna sew two pieces of spandex together though. Hope that helps
Regarding the stretchiness of the fabric. Putting needles in the corners first and then in the middle of each straight edge to hold the fabric in place might help. And if it is still too loose/stretchy adding more needles in the middle space of the previous needles. You also probably want some stretchiness of the fabric remaining. So it can be helpful to use a zig zag stitch or something similar instead of a straight stitch.
I think that for the last top a smaller hook would have worked better. I feel like bcs it is kinda spacey, the "problem" is not the yarn but the hook size. Though I might be wrong because we dont have the same yarn sizes in France. The top still look amazing in my opinion. Anyway, keep going you're an amazing artist :)
If you’re looking for sewing videos, I highly recommend From Carly B! She typically does more advanced patterns and stuff, but I’ve found that I’ve picked up more knowledge even though I’m not doing anything crazy like she does. She’s super super sweet and I think you’d really like her channel. 💕
the last top is so cute. it would fit a bigger bust size, maybe you can gift it to a friend. You could also wear a simple white bandeau under it. and string the strap through the stitches all the way to the bottom, I've made a few tops i messed u on work through that,, you just have to wear it as a regular top. It is so beautiful and you put so much work into it, even if it didn't turn out how you expected. Love your videos ❤
Everything turned out so cute🥰 I know you are upset with the last one but you did a really good job🥰 when you did a close up of the original hexagon top it looked like the white parts were maybe crocheted as their own motif and then joined in the method you joined the hexagons at least that’s how my brain saw it. Love watching you’re videos they always bring a smile to my face🥰
After watching several of your videos about making projects based in stuff you see in shows or anime, i want to make the stuff i see in my shows or at least i plan in my mind how i would make it if i try hehe you're a big inspiration!! keep going ❤
This was such good inspo, tysm! And even though you‘re not super satisfied with the results i still think they look great. And I also enjoy simpler projects cause then they seem more doable for me :)
to help out with the first crochet project.... joann sells stretching thread that you can croochet instead of using the white wide one. to help with sewing fabric with your crochet project use wax or parchment paper on the outsides and sandwhich the actual project in between . should help with the indents that you mentioned. when cutting fabric just outline the bra cups and fold the fabric in half then cut. So both cups should be the same size etc.
Girl I've had that pentagon top in my screenshots foreverrrrr, glad to see it come to life in this video 🎉 free handing without a pattern is freaking awesome and it's still super cute! ❤ maybe you can redo with a button closure like the original piece has?
yes! I'm actually planning on redoing it this month . I just bought smaller yarn & i'm gonna try to make it more accurate than I did in this attempt :)
I think your makes are beautiful, - I ALWAYS love, love, love what you make 😀. I think the pentagon (it´s not hexagon, hexagons have 6 sides, pentagons have 5) is really nice, - you shouldn't be so hard on yourself.
Haven't seen u for a long while since this has been a hectic year for me! But I'm going to binge watch ur videos and maybe recreate one! (Definitely my try one from demon slayer while i wait for the final season 😭) Have a great summer!! It's boiling hot
Do you have elastic thread? if you sow that into the stitches it's almost invisible and SUPER quick and easy! it's not as sturdy as a band, but it's perfect to prevent stitches from stretching and holding straps, waists etc to your body. It's such a life saver :')
The hexagon top is still cute! ❤ annoying to have to wear something under it though 🥲 I feel your pain. I knit and reknit a top I made too big last year and just messed up the sizing every time 😭 it’s disheartening but we can always go back in again! Also as far as length goes. It looks like you made an extra row than the inspo piece 🤔 maybe you could just frog that layer? Idk which directions you connected them 😅
I love these ☺️ I always want to take note of the crochet I see in film n shows but I haven’t started 😭 I need to tho lol I always feel so inspired after watching your videos
I dont know if you've watched the owl house but i'd love to see you recreate Luz's witches' wool cape! In season 1 we see Eda making the yarn and later she's shown knitting the cape with said yarn so i thought it would be a good candidate for this series
Sewer here! I’m still pretty new to spandex/lycra it is one of the hardest materials to work with. Especially bc you have to work with negative ease meaning it stretches to the size that you want it to fit so it’s graded smaller ! So maybe trace the top onto the fabric and then go back in and reduce the measurements with a quilt ruler. Once you learn how to sew with spandex you’ll be able to sew anything
i feel like during the time you were filming, maybe you just were having an off day (or a couple). i think the pieces turned out really nice and maybe once you give it some time and come back to them, you'll like them more. ❤ btw the aqua set at the end is such a pretty color on you!
usually after i have time away from a finished project, I do end up liking it a lot more lol I def do want to redo the tank top though ! and thank you !
Since this is your latest video i think you would be able to see this. Are there more videos avout the sentro machine. I really am hooked with content like this just like all of your videos.
Give yourself some grace with your work; you do such a great job recreating these crochet looks! Have you thought about removing a row on the last top?
I don't know if this will help, but the hexagon top is made halter front and straight across back and it was cropped (if that makes sense) I've seen the same style shirt on cruel summer season 2 It was 18 hexagons, but it looked like it was supposed to wrap around the front and back. Hope is helps ❤
I love your swimsuit, A great job...and your first attempt...Wow. As far as the lining, since it is your first time, you probably could have found a bra to tack to the inside. It might have been much easier than trying the lining.❤
Your problem is that you are sticking to too thick yarn. If you want pieces like that, you will need to go down in yarn weight. So far, almost everything you make is worsted at the least, sometimes maybe DK, but rarely thinner than that. But with DK, worsted and thicker, you will never get the results that a thinner (sport or even fingering) yarn will give you. That is something to consider. Yes, working with fingering takes much more time and no, you will not be able to crank out video after video if you go towards thinner yarns, because it takes a lot longer to finish something. But it does give the results that you are now not getting. Whatever you choose to do is fine, there is no right or wrong choice in this, I mean... you make the most beautiful things. It's just something to think about and consider.
yess, the main reason I haven't been using smaller yarn is mainly due to the fact that I was always struggling with catching the yarn with a smaller hook since I've always been used to using 5mm hooks and larger -- but after doing the bikini in this video, I've gotten the hang of at least a 3mm hook, so that's broadening my ability to use smaller yarn :) I also have a lot of weight 4+ yarn in my stash as well so I've also been trying to use that up. But I am now, thankfully, heading into smaller yarn territory -- especially with some projects I have planned for the future ~
@@ikoxun A whole new world is opening up for you then. It's almost a completely different skill set, working with thin yarn. Gives more room for details and finer work. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Nah you absolutely cut out the lining correctly 🙈💕 you could have used your garment to make a paper pattern first, especially helpful if your pattern needs darts, but like that's probably what I would have done too c:
I feel like for Kiaras Top it would also work if you made like the standart crochet cup pattern but elongated and sew them together at the back of the neck? So the cups have enough width but the neck is not so bulky? but it would probably not look exatly like the original so..
I think you'd do just fine in sewing, everyone I know that does sew has trouble with stretchy fabrics and it's not the easiest thing to start out with. Keep it up!❤ Edit: Now that I've seen the entire vid, I understand your pain with the hexagon top. Just keep in mind that you are a very skilled artist and you did the best you could with the little bit of information you had! Maybe one day you can work on it again and figure out a better solution.

I knit and reknit a top I made too big last year and just messed up the sizing every time 😭 it’s disheartening but we can always go back in again! Also as far as length goes. It looks like you made an extra row than the inspo piece 🤔 maybe you could just frog that layer? Idk which directions you connected them 😅
I love these ☺️ I always want to take note of the crochet I see in film n shows but I haven’t started 😭 I need to tho lol
I always feel so inspired after watching your videos
I think the top was pentagons not hexagons cuz they have 5 sides but it turned out so cute, as did all the other projects xx
this is so cute, I love it ☺☺
ur videos are always so lovely, detailed, and well thought out! ✨
Once you learn how to sew with spandex you’ll be able to sew anything
oof I didn't know it was one of the hardest 😭 that does make sense. Also thanks for the tips!
the editign in the intro was so good omg i need tips
The intro was so cute
ahh!! this came out at the perfect time! i have a flight on saturaday and i wanted to make something, so this is perfect!!
have a safe flight!
that intro is literally me everytime post lol
Love how you just go for it when trying to recreate crochet items.
i feel like during the time you were filming, maybe you just were having an off day (or a couple). i think the pieces turned out really nice and maybe once you give it some time and come back to them, you'll like them more.
Love this series! Can't wait to see if you get any inspo from Sex and the City!
I thought about kiaras top yesterday ❤
wow.. i love your croquette things 🥰
I would love to see you make some kind of f.r.i.e.n.d.s crochet edition✨
Maybe try sewing the double crochet closer to the edge of the pentagon to close the gaps or remove the chain spaces
You did an amazing job ❤
2:12 I don't like small hooks either 😭
I really wanna try Millanote now
with low waist shorts, pants, skirts the halter neck top would be great, even folded I couldn't tell it was long
Give yourself some grace with your work; you do such a great job recreating these crochet looks! Have you thought about removing a row on the last top?
yes I'm thinking of taking some of the bottom off and seeing if that makes it better :) if not, I'll just get smaller yarn and redo the entire thing ~
I don't know if this will help, but the hexagon top is made halter front and straight across back and it was cropped (if that makes sense) I've seen the same style shirt on cruel summer season 2
It was 18 hexagons, but it looked like it was supposed to wrap around the front and back.
Keep it up!❤
Edit: Now that I've seen the entire vid, I understand your pain with the hexagon top. Just keep in mind that you are a very skilled artist and you did the best you could with the little bit of information you had! Maybe one day you can work on it again and figure out a better solution.
JAJAHJHJHJA SHE UPLOADED LETS GO
You might like that last top a lot more if you frog the bottom row of hexigons+
