Why don't you guys go and review other vehicles. Anyone who buys the 70 series, whether its a 79,76,78 troopy, knows its a renovators dream, there's millions of accessories. Your also paying for reliability and arguably the greatest vehicle ever made. The 70 series cruiser is the only vehicle i would trust with my life in the outback or overseas.

they left the back wheel track the same because they didnt want to overcomplicate it and keep it the same as it always was… mostly for the 3rd world countries so they didnt have to pay extra
it begs belief how people complain about the lc70 series not having safety features, move to African outback village settlements and you'll quickly understand why the UN uses these as opposed to range rovers and defenders
Can engage 4wd on the fly - just like any other Landcruiser over the past 70 years - just make sure the front hubs are locked. Gotta stop to go into low range - same as any other 4wd.
It would be amazing if these started coming to the US (LH drive of course) Seems to me, they would sell like hotcakes! The Land Cruiser seems to me is so generic, overpriced and boring, But I would buy one of these with a quickness!!!😍
I am sure the reason why they cost above 80k is because of the V8 diesel and factory lockers. If toyota had given a few more modern luxurious features, which people are concerned about, then it would obviously cost more anyways. Mercedes benz also came up with the w461 g class 300d professional which was a 70 series rival and guess what, they used to cost above 100k. The 70 series is the only vehicle out there right now that offer solid front axle and a V8 diesel. Some people might not like it, but handful of people buy these things and also they know why they buy them.
We have these in nz. But there are plenty of original ones from the 80s and 90s kicking about so if they are pretty much the same you mite be better off buying an older one and saving yourself some cash
The Troopy (VDJ78) is a much better 5-seater vehicle than the 76 - longer wheelbase, high roof so heaps of headroom, more room in the back than anything else on the road and the Troopy still comes with twin 90L fuel tanks that can be isolated. Better ride from the longer leaf springs.
A very different vehicle, and equally difficult to compare to the wagon in my opinion. A troopy is legendary, but not very practical in a modern urban environment (good luck parking anywhere) and difficult to be taken seriously if you are using it for work/meetings etc. but if it’s for touring and having a great time, the troopy wins. The wagon is a very nice utility and compromise. They’ll soon be fetching $100k each.
I've been looking at 70s for a while. Apart from new car warranty - I'm struggling to see why anyone would pick one of these over an 80 series and have a spare 70k left over? Unless you actually needed a ute then fair enough.
@@GRcorolla-bt3mn probably the option of an auto and a rear diff that matched the front would be a good start. Coil springs on the rear would be nice. And a price tag that reflects what you are buying. 45-50k would be more realistic.
@@jonburchell2760 Agree with you but many say that that the body would have to be redesigned and widened in order to correct the rear wheel track. Although many have already made that correction and face no problem. Agree with the auto gearbox. But speaking of the coilovers, that's a bit debatable. Because for a heavy duty vehicle like this thick long coilovers would be needed which would also make the ride more bouncy, like the old defenders. But again there are many coil conversions that not only give better ride quality with suspension articulation, but are also a part of various 4 ton GVM upgrades, except they use airbags for a stable ride quality. Maybe the 70 series actually needs some more upgrades to seem worth buying for it's price, but the 70 series follows a cool concept of having a solid front axle and a V8 diesel. I can't express how much I love it because it has a solid front axle and a diesel V8 but at the same time makes me dissapointed also.
Because everyone's grandfather goes on about how reliable they are. Yet their opinions were formed 30 years ago. Most modern cars produced after the GFC auto industry shakeup / general technology era update have become incredibly reliable e.g. Isuzu Dmax
@@johnny-yi2oi na mate that just does the tray. Gotta change the springs and the way it handles to make it semi driveable. Cause everyone lives in remote Australia and needs access to Toyota spares
@@medz3398 you don't need to change the springs at all. Get yourself some old man emu's and you're fine. And nope, you don't need 20k for the tray unless you're putting on a full canopy in which case, you'll also need a GVM upgrade.
I’m guessing they only really make it for cashed up buyers who liked it when new; and why change a good thing? Trying to restore an original one to the same level or reliability would be a challenge. Just buy new old! However, there are far better modern options available now. For the same capability, you can add live axles on the front. Much harder to somehow turn a 1984 vehicle into something modern. Car manufacturers take years and billions to do that. And they are working pre-build. Not something already sitting on your driveway.
Lots of aftermarket cameras can cover the shortcomings of this truck. But still though from my experience of driving vehicles such as this, its not that difficult to reverse it, it has a square body and square bumpers, so seeing it at the side mirrors isn't that much difficult. I found it more difficult to drive newer cars because of the roundish bumpers and the overall shape.
You know what, for that price you get a V8 diesel and electronically controlled factory lockers front and rear. What else do you want? If you are concerned about features, a better interior and comfort, then it would probably cost more. That's why Toyota didn't provide those luxury stuffs.
