    It's nice when the skidder can drop a load of tops next to your burn pile, and you in turn give a clear path to the drop area. Good to see the D6 earning her keep, too. I know it'll be a bit longer, but I'm looking forward to seeing the new pond build. Knowing you and Bealy, it's gonna be a beauty!!!

    so satisfying to see the process and all the prep/clearing/cleanup steps. You know you have a good team when boat loads of work get done and the crew does not have to speak a word to each other, yet all seem to know what the other is up to and able to stay out of each others way. The landing may be one of the nicest the logging crew ever "just stepped into" from the first day on site. Thanks for taking us along!

  • @vinnyhern

    You take the good with the bad, dry conditions make for hard stump removal but that dirt looks like its coming off the stumps fairly easy. this makes for better burning. the pyro in me cant wait for the big burn pile. Maybe Betty will make an appearance in the pond build portion of the project! Big girl can move some earth once she's healthy!

    I have been watching from afar a trio of those dangle things sitting on a knoll that they barely fit on. They spent about 2 months logging about 10 acres of UNDULATING hillsides. They moved one of them over on the other side of the mountain and it took about 2 weeks to do the same area on flatland.

    So interesting to see what people in different regions can do with the brush and slash. The folks at Lumnah Acres in NH had the loggers chip all waste and send it to a power plant designed to run on chipped material.But not everywhere has such plants and that is unfortunate

    I thought you'd already be tired of stumps given the other job! 15 acres here? I bet you will be after this! I'm always surprised that the landowners don't take advantage of the 'trash' wood and cut firewood for themselves. This is going to be an epic build.

    • @JCrook1028
      @JCrook1028 2 года назад +1

      How much firewood do you think they'd need compared to the amount here? I'm sure if any of it is decent burnable wood they'd take a bit but this is mostly trash rotted out poplar and pine, not quality firewood.

    I always think of the tree hugging side when I see logging.... it's such a shame - but it's no different than farming crops or animals - its there for a reason.
    I also almost feel cringy saying this too - due to the negative conotation - but for tree removal - you need them huge clearing machines they used in Avatar.... point and shoot & that's cleared the area.

On all timber types . It would make the operation so much more profitable . In speed of operations .

    Chris, can the stumps be left behind in the middle of the pond area? Seems kind of pointless to stump all of that area. Around the shallows and anything near the dam makes sense, but out in the deeper water? Seems that would save a lot of hours. Also might be natural fish habitat as they rot.

    • @kenore4003
