He throws the bag in the toilet and leaves the toilet lid open just before the plan crashes. I wonder how he was able to find the rest when they went back that part of the plain after the crash. Anyway, the actor amazes me. His eyes goes from scared to enoyed to determined and nasty, almost cruel looking, from one second to another.

It'd be easy if the people on the island were impostors going over a "wreck" that was planted there for them to pretend to have been aboard.

He ran to the bathroom to hide from the flight attendant. When the plain started falling apart, he simply sat in the nearest chair he could find - one in the middle section of the plane.

I know that you didn't write the recap yourself, but got it from lostpedia, but it bothers me a bit that it says "ingests the heroin". That's what he does at first, but after that he clearly snorts it - you can hear it at 2:01, but since they're not allowed to show it, they film the flight attendants instead. In a later episode, 1x18 (numbers), Charlie tells Hurley: "You want to know what I was doing when the plane went down? I was snorting heroin in the toilet."
They do that on several occasions; later in this episode (1x02) you see him sitting at the beach and pouring heroin onto his hand. Then they film Jack talking to Hurley on the beach, and then back to Charlie where he's just snorted the heroin. It's kind of ridiculous, since you know what he's doing even though they don't show it, but I guess those are the rules of what you're allowed to show in a family show.

  • @goodmaro

He's using a tap code. I don't know if it's the standard one in the table at the Wikipedia entry on "Tap code", but it's at least of that motif: ordered pairs of numbers of taps between 1 and 5, inclusive. This clip cuts out what was shown on the show in another scene: a reaction shot of Locke. The makers of "Lost" were trying to clue us in to the fact that Charlie and Locke were communicating. The only reason for them to communicate there would be if something one or both of them didn't expect was happening, and of course they would have had to known of each other's being on the flight. *These people were not strangers to each other.*

@@randyjero4664 Exactly, wow! This was one of a great many clues given by _Lost_ that these people knew each other -- that it was all set up. Another strong set of clues of exactly that was given in the concluding show of season 1: a silent scene of everyone getting on the plane, giving each other looks that told the audience these people knew each other. However even stronger clues are given in scenes on the island that allow us to infer that these people hadn't really survived an airliner crash, and that therefore they must have prearranged the whole thing, which of course required cooperation.

@@dragonmasterlance123 Yes, these are the questions the makers of _Lost_ wanted us to ask, answer, and draw inferences from. One thing they all add up to: That wreckage on the beach was not of this airliner, and *the people on the island did not survive an airline crash.*

@@zendevil6965 So why did you believe him, rather than recognizing that as part of the deception? If characters are prepared to deceive other characters, don't you think they would have at least tried to work out such details and cooperated with their help? _Lost_ is about a long con of the type known as a Big Store grift, after a famous one by that name, in which multiple accomplices and locations are used.
In case you didn't understand it, the "crash scene" on the island was faked. Those were different people from the ones who boarded the real Oceanic 815, which we saw on the bottom of a deep sea trench far from the supposed flight path. The perpetrators of this hoax thought that by dragging the wreckage there they were safe from its discovery, but then it was accidentally turned up by those explorers. Of course *the impostors* were still alive at the time you refer to.

You know there are a lot of unanswered questions with Lost. I read all the questions people have but no one seems to ask how a person like Charlie can afford an airplane ticket to get to Australia? A round trip? I've been a junkie and when you're supporting a habit and you're making a living playing with your guitar on the streets, believe me you would barely make it paying your bills. But Charlie, despite all odds, made it to Australia. Props.

Yes, these too are questions the makers of _Lost_ wanted us to ask and answer for ourselves, to deduce what was *really* going on. To understand what Charlie was *really* doing in Australia, I think it would help for you to watch episode "The Duplicated Man" from British detective TV series _Department S._ Think about the art object Charlie ostensibly stole and returned, in connection with how the Department S agents were able to get fingerprints of Andrew Heywood/Anthony Harvey. Another hint: Charlie was no junkie, just pretending to be one.

The unrealistic part is that nobody besides Charlie cared about the beautiful number 3 brown heroin stash in the plane. Knowing almost half of Americans love vicodan, that heroin stash would have been fought over by the survivors like no other. I know I'd do a bump to float away the days in paradise. It would also keep me from feeding the narcissist jack to the smoke monster so yes, it is very therapeutic

Never mind that, how did he get the bass guitar on it? The shot of him struggling to get it into the compartment in the passenger section *contradicts* his story that he wasn't allowed (by "the fascist") to take it on board personally and had to check it in his baggage. So somebody is lying! That shot of him is an allusion to the shot in _Strangers on a Train_ of Alfred Hitchcock's taking a bass fiddle aboard. Get it? The makers of _Lost_ were likening Charlie to an actual or would-be director -- a director of what? Presumably something like a movie, directing the actors -- a clue that Charlie was in on the plot. There are similar allusions to such Hitchcock cameos for _Lost_ characters Mr. Eko and Hugo.
