The best way to look at the XPower is that it is a 400hp EV for less than a base ID.3, Cupra, Niro EV or Megane eTech. On that basis it is an absolutely bargain
Very good review. The final comments sum it up well: good practical hatchback with something a bit special lurking beneath. That will do nicely. Ordered mine in green.
@@ISITWORTHITUK if your afraid why loose the money? Get a older car, it’s better for the environment and if you pick the right car you won’t loose any money or might even go up in value.
I may be wrong but I feel this car is better than we expect. Bridgestone Turanza have little grip when you refer to the poorest results of cars equipped with them in the moose test (km77). In the future, we may see time-laps with this car allowing to draw definitive conclusions. I’m saying that since I discovered my AWD SUV with a similar system of torque transfer as in the MG 4 is able to go as fast as a hot hatch I owned previously in low speed curves and with the same tyres. The feeling in my SUV is not sporty at all, but handling is excellent, so it could also apply to the MG4 x power despite a basic interior, not sporty seats, that give the impression of a basic commuter.
Brilliant comments and thanks for watching. I’m hoping to be able to take in on track depending on the dealership and see how it really performs. When compared to an SUV the MG4 is at slight advantage with being lower to the ground with cornering and thus having a lower centre of gravity. The steering with the torque vectoring maybe be more apparent in full track mode. It’s cleaver inner wheel braking helps with sharp turns as well. MG has a game changer on their hands for sure but it would be great to hear if you get a drive in one to see if you prefer the SUV or MG4 xpower as you mentioned they are close on corners. Again a straight launch is where the Xpower makes its mark.
I've got an MG4 Trophy. This car is certainly worth it but the X Power, I don't think so. The Trophy is plenty fast enough. However, there are loads of irritating problems on the Trophy and I bet my shirt the X Power is the same. One, no two things I like on the XP are the rear window wiper which you don't get on any other 4's and the grab handles above the doors, these aren't available on the other 4's unless things have changed in the last six months since I bought mine.
Great comment and thanks for watching. yes if you're not interested in the extra boost the trophy is fast enough as you've experienced. No plans as of yet for the rest of the MG4's to get the additional extras. It's annoying how the little things make all the difference but I suppose that's how they get you to upgrade.
I have the standard MG4 LR, which gets me to where I need to go without any range anxiety. However would pay more for the ER (extended range) version over the xPower which is now available, since I have had little need to race petrol heads from the traffic lights.
Great comment and thanks for watching. If range is important yes definitely stick to the LR. The standard MG4 is decent enough anyway with the instant torque you get. How long have you had the LR for and how are you find the charging infrastructure?
@@ISITWORTHITUK I've had the MG4 since March. It replaced a Renault ZOE which was strictly a city car, which I exclusively drove in economy mode, eeking out as much range as possible. The MG4 LR I drive in Normal mode like a regular ICE car and seldom need public charging, if I do it's only for 10mins or so, just to get home, where I normally charge.
@@squareeyz It sounds like it suits you for what you need. Do you have a wall box charger or use the mains? I’m wondering how most people charge there EVs as the infrastructure at the moment isn’t the best. If you had to use public chargers solely would this put you off buying an EV?
@@ISITWORTHITUK I have a Ohme intelligent wall box which integrates with my energy provider to take advantage of off peak tariffs, and it's a 7kw charger.
Ours arrived the other day, it’s hilarious. Better rubber will make a big difference. If you want it to handle properly a nice street set up could easily be had for a couple of k…but that’s missing the point of it which is price….and it’s the best part…. It was under 30k new. £300 a month on a pcp lol. Literally half of anything else with that pace. It’s a great little car.
Good review..! Does anyone know if dealers would paint the calipers black,or dark grey..? As if I do it, would it void the warranty..? as the orange ones just say "steal me please.." Also:- Does anyone know how to turn-off the keyless entry on the fob & car..? as I've heard it's the most popular way of stealing cars..😳
Thanks for watching. In relation to the calliper covers I’ve only heard about painting them yourself but as mentioned would void the warranty. I think the keyless is factory set but maybe a software setting will change this.
It's a nice size. Perfect for someone who doesn't want an SUV. I just wish they'd drop the silly orange calliper covers and fit rear LED lights instead!
You know the orange calipers are clip on so not that big as they look. The best way to sum it up is that it's a budget EV (£25k) with alot more power. Not a real hot hatch but great for traffic light grand prix. Its only worth it if you want the acceleration, otherwise it's the same car. The competitors are much nicer interiors and nicer places to be. I would much rather an RS3 if I wanted an inefficient hot hatch.
Apologies for the confusion It’s full right hand drive, I used the front camera which gives a mirror effect and haven’t edited the switch. Thanks for pointing this out 👍
The problem is though by buying an MG you are now part of their terrible after sales service, the dealerships struggle to get repairs approved as I have experienced, the situation in the uk is so bad that dealerships, including mine, are now moving away from selling mg.
It’s always going to happen. Chinese car manufacturers who import to the Uk get a sweetener as well so UK car manufacturers/ plants are already at a disadvantage.

Exactly, even the entry MG4 SE trim is Worth it! Not having to shell out thousands for (XXXtra POWER 😂) is unbelievable 👍
ID3 is over priced!
It makes no noise, which is boring. I'll stick to my petrol powered Cupra 300
@@alivekicking6247 The only noise you get is a Woop sound from inside the cabin from the dual motors. That’s about it I’m afraid 🤣

Wrap the caliper covers 1st to see if it voids the warranty if it doesn't then you can paint them later on.
