  • This is the first lesson in my brand new comprehensive series to teach absolute beginners how to crochet! These videos will be recorded as if I were teaching you how to crochet in person and will be 12 lessons in total.
This first video of my series is all about what tools you will be using as a crocheter. Since there are so many choices to choose from when it comes to crochet hooks and tools, I go through what tools I have used the most in my 30 yrs of crocheting and what I use them for.
Because different hook-making companies use different letters and numbers to indicate sizing, this can be very confusing, especially to a beginner. To alleviate this confusion, I have created a free printable bookmark for you to print off to keep on hand so you can know what letter or number goes with what hook in size in millimeters. I recommend printing it on cardstock and laminating it if possible. You can find the free bookmark here (dropbox): www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fpgbwu...
Here's a list of supplies I recommend. They are affiliate links, meaning I will make a very small commission if you choose to make a purchase at no additional cost to you.
If you are interested in the yarn I am going to be using for my tutorials in this series, I am using this Yarn for Beginners that I found on Amazon. Not only do you get 4 balls of yarn, they also send you stitch markers and several yarn needles. I think it is a perfect yarn for beginners and I highly recommend using it. You will want to get a light color (like a pastel) to practice with. You can check it out here: amzn.to/3QqYEzi
For a complete set of average-sized hooks, I recommend this aluminum set: amzn.to/3qr0chU
The bigger hook I will be using in the rest of the videos in this series is a size 8.0 mm hook I purchased from Hobby Lobby, but you can also find it here: amzn.to/459DFF2
If the 8.0 mm hook is sold out, here is another that I like (affiliate): amzn.to/45BBVEX
If you would like a complete aluminum hook set with handles, you can find one here (affiliate): amzn.to/3OIAEpS
    Gauge ruler/hook size tool: amzn.to/459Jm5S
    Mini tape measure: amzn.to/3OGe0yz
    Favorite scissors: amzn.to/47mnnus
