That's actually a very nice design. We are currently building 16 similar structures for people to live in for free when they have someone in the hospital. Ours are a little smaller than yours, being 14x24. Ours even has the half wall as yours does. Very, very well done! The only thing I'd change about yours would be to add some type of awning to cover the front door, to keep you out of the weather as you enter the house. And I'd likely get rid of the steps in front so it was wheelchair accessible.
My plans was to have a full covered porch across the front with a porch swing and sitting area and ceiling fan,, for my MIL. A ramp for the front is a great idea, thanks for watching.
You are so correct, why so many people retire and move into a big home, I don’t understand for me I want to move to a smaller home to make it easier to maintain and clean. Thanks for watching!!!
Wow, R-19 in the walls and R-40 under the roof, you can't get any better than that to insulate a building! You did a BEAUTIFUL job on this cottage - very well planned and put together!!! Thanks for the very through tour, well done! So sorry your mother-in-law didn't get to enjoy the fruits of your labor, but I'm sure she felt the love of your efforts and the kindness and compassion that you obviously have an abundance of! 💓So nice that you so generously shared this lovely cottage with so many. One thought you might consider: you could rent this out as an Air B&B and save up some money for your retirement..... By using it as an Air B&B, that would allow you to have it available for special quests like family when you needed it for that purpose. Blessings to you as you continue your journey! ☺
Thank you for your kind words, good idea on the Air n& b, 2x6 walls allows for the extra insulation to achieve R19 and blown in fiberglass insulation in attic achieved R40 in attic space. Thanks for watching, i’m gonna be posting another video series starting in July 2023, of all the measurements and extra details of the build.
So I bought myself a lot - just exactly the little piece of land I have been dreaming of - like a miracle when I found it. But I have no idea how I'll ever be able to afford having a house built. This gives me a lot of hope - I will subscribe for part 2!
Check with you local building dept and see if you can put a trailer on the lot while you build the house. If you can, get a used travel trailer for a couple thousand and put it there. You'll need water and power temporary hookups and sewer or septic as needed. These can often be had through special programs through the county at reduced interest rates (around here it's about 1 percent loan for septic and water installation). Once you have the trailer on the place, live in it and build the house. Get a construction loan or do it out of pocket a little at a time (you will be saving the amount of rent so use that money). When you are all done and signed off , either sell the trailer and live there or move the trailer to a different lot and do it again or sell the trailer and live there while you build the next place. As you get better and faster at doing this you can replace your job and make more doing this than most jobs would pay. Plus the bonus, no boss to please, no alarms in the morning to get up and go to work. You can easily make $60K a year doing just 2 places per year.
@@williamrichards7081 it’s ironic you suggest that because that was my exact plan… thanks for taking the time and thanks for caring! I did not know I could do a loan for well and septic though!
@@FloatingThroughTheRealm Many smaller towns and rural areas have loans like this available.Check for these and others with your local building department as well as banks and other lenders. If you want to do several of these, check with city and county for properties they may own from back property tax . When people don't pay the property tax, the lots are auctioned off but not all lots sell at the auction and the city or county gets them. You can get fantastic deals on these, like just a few hundred dollars for a lot. Then build on them and make even more.
You did such a good job! The home is so nice, and I really enjoyed the way you did your video, by walking though it quickly many times while you talked - along with full coverage up and down - side to side. It was a super idea to show the home in the dark as well because there was nothing to detract from the build. The way you described the process - along with the side wall 2x6s, the R factor of the insulation, the pitch of the roof, and the base foundation details was excellent! Slow, but not to slow - and, methodical - just right! So informative, and extremely helpful for anyone wanting to build a pole barn type home. You did something that no one else has ever done that was so so smart - and, that was backing the washer/dryer unit up to the utility room and feeding the line through - genius! Also, for $18,000 - wow! So much joy for so many people who have needed a place to park for awhile! You are a super example of a soul that shares and thinks of others - ahhh...so refreshing!!
ABSOLUTELY Agree. I watch so many of these videos and this level of detail isn't given, the tour is one time through in each room and the talking is so fast! I really liked that each piece of info was separated by some superfluous and pleasant things. Great great video.
I am posting another video in July that’s going to give exclusive details of this build, so please subscribe and hit the notification bell and share with your friends for the upcoming video to help you and others. Thank you for watching.
I have a RUclips channel, and I looked at the outside one evening and said to myself that looks pretty good at night with the lights on the porch and did a video. Nothing particular just thought it looked cool at night. Thanks for watching.
That was adorable. You are so kind to do that for her. I am praying i will have the finances to get a similar tiny home built and a piece of land to put it on. God willing and the creek don't rise (as my mema would say) I pray the Lord will bless you for the kindness you showed your mother n law doing this. 🙏
Thank you for your kind words!!! I will pray that God will provide a way for your home and land!!! He will supply our needs!!!!! God Bless and thank you for watching, check out the other three videos of this build on my channel in my playlist. This may help you even more as I discuss many details and how to build it as cheap as possible.
Hey this is amazing and my mom and dad had a home like this when they 1st got married. I am sorry about your mother in law passing away and I bet she would of been just happy to live in here. May she RIP and may she be a guardian angel to you.
*This looks amazing! You did a great job! May God bless you for helping many families! I look forward to doing something similar for my two boys and myself because I refuse to get a mortgage (can't afford it anyway, lol) and so my search continues for reasonable land.* 😊
Most important never give up!!!! Our timing sometimes is not God’s timing… but he does want the best for us!!!! I pray you find what you’re looking for, God Bless and thanks for watching!!!!
I LOVE everything about this build -- including your willingness to do this for your mother in law (I'm sure she was grateful despite not getting to live in it after all.) and also you and your wife helping others who needed a place to stay. Very kind -- AND, you certainly are talented being able to do this! Did you also do the electrical wiring yourself? I don't know where you are located but I sure wish you lived local to me OR, had a business because these would sell like crazy!! My mom is in her early 80's and a cancer and heart attack survivor. Her marriage is ending and she has been trying to find a place closer to me. Rents are outrageous for her income and I am disabled and in a 1 bedroom subsidized unit. Mom thought of a tiny house but many are so tiny she says she'd feel claustrophobic AND, many have a loft you have to climb a ladder to. Not safe for her and I can't climb into a loft either. Anyway, excellent job, best I've ever seen!
Yes, I built everything on this cottage from the foundation to electrical to plumbing along with the structure the only thing that I did not do was finish the drywall so if you want to say 99.999% I completed myself thanks to God for giving me the skills and abilities to do so I wish you luck. I pray that God will give you wisdom on how to best take care of your mother and your situation. Thank you for watching and then the upcoming video in July 2023 I will explain a whole lot more of this bill so please subscribe and stay tuned for the upcoming video.

Very sorry that you’re mother-in-law wasn’t able to live in this awesome cottage, but what a good man you are to have helped other people with it! Hats off to you, Sir! Well done!👍👍👍
Hey man thanks for the kind words!!! There was definitely highs and lows in this build , but God already knew the outcome. It was a complete joy when we were able to help those that we knew help them in a tough time in their life and to make it better…. Thanks for watching and God Bless!!!
Just now finding your channel and I’m really enjoying it. So sorry your mother-in-law passed before she could enjoy her new home. Nice to know others have benefited from your excellent work and you have a big caring heart I can tell and that’s the most important.
This is exactly what my husband and I need in Dallas, WV. We have 13 acres and an old trailer that's not level nor very nice inside. We have overstayed our welcome on the trailer. Would be very blessed to move into this house ❤ beautiful job. Starting over with a payment at 68 is scary.
I totally understand, payments stink!!!! I wish you luck with your decision making on your future home. As I get older, I realize that simpler is better. Thank you for watching and God bless.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. That's really hard and I know it takes time to process such a dramatic change in life. I love your video and hope in the near future you can expand on the idea and build a similar yet larger structure. Maybe this could be a new business venture for you! Thanks for sharing both your time and talent.
Thank you for your kind words and for hearing our story around this build!!! My son told me we need to buy some property and build a few more, lol!!!! We might just do that one day…. It was a pleasure to share the four part series on my channel of this build. If anything, I love helping people that want to be helped and to grow their knowledge and abilities to possibly build their dream home. Have a great day and God Bless!!!!
Well thank you for watching. You should check out part two and part three of this video series part four will be uploaded by August 20. God bless and thanks for watching.
This is excellent! I hope these types of videos inspire this generation to pursue a revised 'American Dream' - build it yourself, no mortgage and simplicity. Thank you for the tour.
You’re welcome and check out part two part three and part four of the build series and I do believe people are catching on to live simpler in this day and age. Thanks for watching.
Mom loved you like a son. I know she would have cherished every moment in the cottage and treasured staying there. I will always be so thankful for your desire to build her a home to enjoy. Though she never got to spend time there, she knew you were working hard to complete it for her. I love you, Aaron.
God knew what you were building it for. His plans were already set while you just obeyed orders. I bet there will be many more you can bless with this beautiful tiny home.
This is nice. The half wall is not something that I would have thought of. But I wouldn’t bother to change it. I like the open concept behind the washer/dryer unit. It makes sense. More homes could benefit from that. I could be quite content in something like this. 👍😎
Awesome work! Looks like a very nice place for family and friends. So sorry for your family's loss. I wish your family the best. Love to see pictures of the different stages of the build.
Thank you for your kind words. I pray that God will provide you the land for your home. God bless and thanks for watching check out part two and three of his billed as well. Gonna be posting part for next week.
Great job. Reminds me of my husband and his knowledge to build our first 24'x40' ranch style. The current owners added the same measurement for a big house 48'x40' house.
I thank you for this share, the love and thought that went into it is beautiful. I used to help my mother in law shower when she got cancer. I am about to to build, as my house in Maine that burned down last month is a total loss and insurance is gonna give less than rebuild. I need small, affordable efficient homes for myself, my parents and a family member. This is sweet.
The insurmountable things a person will do when motivated by pure love is beautiful and the world needs more of it. I want to do this for my partner and I, and then my mother and her boyfriend to take care of each other as we age and to have a easier travel between houses for bonding and what not. Thank you so much for the information and the inspiration. I pray to God that I’m able to do this in time for all of us. 🏡
You are rich in a way that goes beyond how much money one could ever have. Not a bad layout either. Something about that size would fit my single lifestyle. A simplistic humble look, with necessity as it's theme.
You did an excellent job and I know it's brought plenty of joy to all who used it. I would love to have something like this on a lake property. Sending condolences to you and your family.
You are a wonderful son in law. I'm so sorry she didn't get to enjoy it. Glad she got to see it. Just lovely. All the space is so well used and well thought out. (Have you thought about using a tankless water heater?)
I did, but if I found a plumbing company going out of business and got this gas hot water heater a lot cheaper than what I could’ve bought a tankless for. Thanks for watching God bless.
You did an amazing job, I'm sure your mother in law was very proud... I'm sure all of the people who got the pleasure to enjoy your hard work really appreciated it...

Wow. Blessings to you, man. This is absolutely wonderful. Wish there were more units like this being built as a starter home for the young or permanent housing for low-income couples or the elderly. This idea would certainly help with the housing crisis. Heck, I just might go out and try to buy a lot to do something like this. Fantastic idea. This is much, much better than the idea of a "tiny house" on wheels.
What a FANTASTIC design. Absolutely perfect for a Single person or a couple. As someone who has built and designed from scratch many living domiciles in-the-day, the clean, fresh, maintenance free and very attractive design grabs-the-eye. I was particularly taken with the service entrance for the back of the washer dryer. That's Intelligent Design ! The unit still looks Brand New even with multiple tenants over a several year period. The only very minor item that might be worth any consideration would be to re-position the Fridge door handles on the opposite side thus making more efficient access from the kitchen sink and counter area. Very well done. Sorry to hear of your Mother-in-Laws passing. She would have loved the unit and the effort you put in to its construction on her behalf. The attention to detail shows. Thank You for sharing. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.

Yes it is on septic, I tapped onto our homes septic feed line just before the septic tank, the cottage was built uphill from the septic tank so septic from cottage would drain too septic tank. Thank for watching and great question.

Part 2 coming in July 2023 subscribe to my channel and hit the notification bell so every time I post a video you can see it.
@@jeepmanking3577 You're welcome and thank you for your kind reply. I'll watch for your next video. Blessings! 😊
So I bought myself a lot - just exactly the little piece of land I have been dreaming of - like a miracle when I found it. But I have no idea how I'll ever be able to afford having a house built. This gives me a lot of hope - I will subscribe for part 2!
Thank you, and I hope that your plan comes together for your future. Just keep trying and find ways to make it happen. God bless.
Go get a construction loan.
That washer and dryer closet is an awesome idea.
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Well thank you for the compliment!!!!!! And thank you for taking the time to watch!!! God bless…
Why did you found this at night?
I have a RUclips channel, and I looked at the outside one evening and said to myself that looks pretty good at night with the lights on the porch and did a video. Nothing particular just thought it looked cool at night. Thanks for watching.
A Jack of all trades you are!!! Beautiful❤️ Your mother-in-law is so very proud of you❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!!! Thanks for watching!!!
Excellent job. Six yrs? It looks brand new.
I like your build and layout. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing that with us.

I could live perfectly happy in a home this. Beautifully done!
Speaking as a single man of senior years, I love it! It looks perfect for one such as myself!
@@maingate7672 One or two people could easily live in this small home with room to spare. Thanks for your input!! Thanks for watching!!!!

Wally, so well said!!! Thanks for watching!!!!! Family is so important, even though it can be challenging at times but so worth it. No regrets!!!!
Very sorry that you’re mother-in-law wasn’t able to live in this awesome cottage, but what a good man you are to have helped other people with it! Hats off to you, Sir! Well done!👍👍👍

What a blessing to have a son in law as you
Thank you!!!
I understand that. I'm pushing 60 and it's rough

What an awesome basic home!! I love it !! 🤘🏼

You are so right!!!! God knew everything even when I didn’t, so I can say his plan was bigger than my plan!!!!
This is nice.
The half wall is not something that I would have thought of. But I wouldn’t bother to change it.
I like the open concept behind the washer/dryer unit. It makes sense. More homes could benefit from that.
I could be quite content in something like this.

Great job. Reminds me of my husband and his knowledge to build our first 24'x40' ranch style.
The current owners added the same measurement for a big house 48'x40' house.
Thank you!!
Thank you
This really is an excellent layout and efficient cottage! You did an amazing job!!

This little 600 ft home is better than my 800 ft home I’m currently living in. Kudos to this awesome and brilliant build. I’m jelly.

Beautiful structure, amazing for your first living structure.
Well done! Can't wait for part 2, dimensions would be handy
You are rich in a way that goes beyond how much money one could ever have. Not a bad layout either. Something about that size would fit my single lifestyle. A simplistic humble look, with necessity as it's theme.
Thank you and thanks for watching!!! God Bless!!
I love this !! I could definitely live in this home.. No problem😀
