    I am riding two wheels since 1955 and applying everything written on the book of Motorcycle Roadcraft, published by RoSPA (Royal Society of Prevention of Accident, Rider’s Handbook) and following your videos on youtube with pleasure like assurance of everything I learned is true in practice. Thanks for that.
    I watched a lot of Trail braking videos but, most of them did not explained the throttle while we use that technic.
    I notice on this video that my practice (keeping the throttle on, not zero) is right. It actually the matter of weight and traction on rear wheel.
    Thanks again.
    Ps: I wish I met with you in person for a chat

    It really helps visually that you have the throttle marked. Rode on and off (mostly off) for 28 years. Never heard of trail braking. On a blind curve, I would always slow way down before entering a curve. It normally was slower than needed but it felt safe. After practicing this technique, I feel like I could safely approach unknown curves with a little more speed and still be safe. Thanks for doing what you do.

    I'm no expert, I only rode 600 km on my first bike last season after my course here in Quebec, Canada. They told us to never use brake while cornering, that we need to get the bike straight first because it could lead to lose of control. I think I'll check for some kind of Master course here near me with someone to teach me those things that you do. Videos are nice but being teach in person would be better. Thank you for all your videos, really appreciated.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 года назад +80

      The beginner course you took is 8th grade basic information, this is way above it. Much more to learn. The instructors should have said, “ in this class for all theses reasons, we won’t be braking in a curve, just know you can but that’s a higher level course.”

    • @marcpilon9189
      @marcpilon9189 3 года назад +7

      Salut @DGBTech! Indeed what is taught in Quebec is equivalent to the MSF's Slow, Look, Press and Roll method. This assumes you are riding well within the posted speed limit, including the reduced limit inside the curve, so that you don't have to continue braking once the turn is initiated. There are pros and cons to this method. You are expected to slow down so much that you only need maintenance throttle while inside the curve. I think it is because it's assumed that beginners don't have the dexterity and experience to apply trail breaking properly. I took my class 2 years ago and 30000km later, I'm just beginning to master this technique. Look at videos from Motojitsu, Canyon Chasers, and enroll at Yamaha's Champ U Core Rinding web class, this is a life changer: ridelikeachampion.com/courses-page/

      @@MotoJitsu I have been driving a Mustang 2018 on track days and the technique to get it to turn in is trail braking. This way I could keep up with the 3 times as expensive Porsche 911s. If you don’t the Mustang will understeer, same as when you don’t trail brake a bike. I sold the Mustang and is kind of new to motorcycling and the similarities with track driving a car is amazing, even if there are differences. Prends d'abord le temps d'être bien a l'aise avec les techniques de base, connait bien ta moto et ses réactions au freinage, accélérations, virages et après quelque milliers de km tu fera tu trail braking naturellement sans même y penser. Excellent video demo of trail braking. This clearly shows it without all the explanation. So, you slightly pull in the front brake lever before entering the corner and then release it as you corner. My problem is just learning how much front brake to apply before entering the corner so that I don't brake almost completely before it but also not brake too little so that I cross the center line. I guess it just take practice. I live in Miami where we don't even have curvy streets or roads; all of them are in a grid.

  • @worldsnomad
    @worldsnomad 2 года назад +3

    Not sure why yt recommended this to me but I would like to say, if you read the road correctly and know your limits then there is no need for that brake, riding in that manner means you haven't adopted to the road conditions

Now its cold up in the northern east coast and cant really go riding, however, I will be following MotoJitsu's instructions. Hi Greg! There is one thing that is not clear to me in relation to trail braking: what should I do with the throttle while braking, should I close it completely or should I keep it in neutral at the same time that I am braking? Thanks in advance! By the way, your videos are of great value for me who I consider myself a beginner.

    • @d3t3ktiv
      @d3t3ktiv Год назад +2

      There is no need to give the bike gas when you brake. In fact, the engine will help you brake if you close the throttle completely. But once you get into the corner and stop braking, then you should give the bike just a little bit of gas so the engine doesnt slow you down more than you need. Kind of a late response, I know, but I hope it helps anyway

    Hey Man awesome Trailbraking demonstration! I saw one of your trailbraking videos years ago and now I always do it. Also the video about our peripheral vision being hyper sensitive to motion also was very eye opening.Thanks!
    Just a quick thing I noticed regarding your cornering line in this clip. When you do your left corners keep right longer then go into the corner later, this will give you more distance to the center line of the road (for busses and trucks) and it will give you further sight and more reaction time. Your right corners are fine. Maybe here too a bit later and wider of an entry to exit a bit further right. again giving you more insight to the corner and a better judgment if it before committing to a line.
    Thanks for your work! You are saving lots of lives 👌
    Hope this helps to become an even greater rider. Greeting from Luxembourg, Europe

    Nice video. Very well done. Street riding and doing this can have many situational/skill caveats and complexities. That's why MSF and others tend to not recommend it. I used a lot in my earlier years street riding but now I am in the group that brakes before and then just opens the throttle for pos chassis control.

    So in past videos i’ve heard you say that with 0% angle you can go 100% throttle. With that said, can you actually go full throttle and still have some lean angle? 1:40 shows you at full throttle (i assume that last dot is full throttle) but with some lean angle coming out of the corner.

    This is good. My zrx1100 has a full throttle throw of only 80 degrees from the factory so you cant see much except the braking in a gopro. I did a video similar to this once and was shocked how little throttle movement there was. I think quarter turn throttles get people in trouble on liter bikes as much as anything else. If you have another bike with a quarter turn throttle on it, it would be interesting to see this same format on that bike.

      If i may, i think people are also "upgrading" their thtottles to something called a "quick turn" or something, on my particular bike (possibly others?) I cant imagine that for me. I think having a throttle that behaves like a light switch is a bad idea.
