Great overview for the 6D. Thanks for posting! As for recording RAW with ML. The 6D isn't the best camera. It doesn't matter how fast your SD card is because the 6D (internally) only records at 40 mb/s. Even if you had a SD card that recorded at 10000 mb/s, you're still maxed out at 40 because of the camera's internal recording speed. The RAW feature with ML will only record about 4-5 seconds before frame skip on the 6D. If you're filming something that is full of tiny short clips, the RAW would be great and it would get you the best quality film. However, that is not ideal, so I recommend you use ML for all of its other features and utilize the camera's factory set recording features. I go with the "Prolost Flat" picture style, then just edit/enhance color in post production. Thanks again for the vid. I got a lot out of it! :)

Hi, Thanks for the video. I would ask if you know a way to listen to the audio you're recording with an external mic into your headphones. Because on the cam I only have the jack for ext mic but not the headphones one. Thanks in advance
If your camera doesn’t have a headphone jack you’ll need to run your audio through a different device if you want to monitor it. Or some things like the picomic let you send a signal into a camera input and also have a Jack for headphone monitoring too

Does Magic Lantern need to be installed on every card you use in the camera? In other words, if you care filling the card in the camera & insert card #2, does ML need to be on that card, as well?
Yes, you'll need ML to be on every card that you use. Although, if you're using a DSLR with two camera slots like the Canon 5Dmkiii you can just keep ML on the SD card and record your footage to the CF. Works like a charm with that camera. With the 6D you'll have to keep ML on the cards, which isn't that bad. Probably takes only 2 mins to set up each card. Good luck!

You'll have to repeat the process on all cards. If you have 1.1.3. it honestly should only take probably 2 mins per install to put the files on the SD and run the firmware change.
Nice job dude. Which version you use magic lantern ? (i have also 6D) I installed the latest version for 1.1.6 firmware my raw videos are yellow, it's even worse in low light you think this is normal even though my white balance is right? in addition to this problem , my magic lantern plant displays a blue screen ... Do you know if by doing what you explain I can get clear image without any extra layers on the computer screen? I know with the Mark 3 you can do that but, I can not afford it so I was thinking in the 6D
igmanvideos Hmm, not exactly clear on what you're saying but I'll try and help first by saying that a Canon 6D probably isn't the best camera for live broadcasts. You'd have to buy a device that converts the video stream to a web friendly size. Some thing like a live stream broadcaster might be your best option. I have done some live stream projects for clients and myself before and it's always more complicated than anticipated! Good luck!
Any insight as to why I can't drag the files onto my SD card? For whatever reason it's not even allowing me to drag and drop the files into my card - I've tried it with all of my formatted cards. First off yes, you're going to need a faster SD card if you want to be able to shoot a RAW clip that doesn't stop on you. I use a 95mb/s card and that works well. Also what resolution are you trying? The higher the resolution the more taxing it will be on the camera processor.
Do you have to keep the magic lantern files on the card you are using in the camera, or can you just install it, delete the magic lantern files from the card and still use magic lantern? In other words, could you install it from one card, and then throw in another empty card, and record from magic lantern on that card? :)

I have followed all of the steps up to the point of selecting the (current) firmware version 1.1.4 and pressing OK to upgrade.the body, etc. . . . following the steps, i see the screen flash quickly that the upgrade (actually downgrade) is happening but the camera goes completely black with only the red led by the SD card door flashing on and on. After 15 mites I figured something was wrong . . .On/Off switch didn't work so had to remove the battery to turn the camera off. The whole process was done with camera in :M: mode . . What do you think is the issue?

Magic Lantern is going to take as much processor speed as possible to make recording RAW happen so try turning off any unnecessary features like overlays. Experiment with different video recording resolutions and then push is it higher if it is working.
After install ML 1.1.6 in my 6D, the live view become grainy at all untill i press shutter button or AF button, the LV become clear again. What's wrong in this case?

Awesome! I'm a bit new to Magic Lantern, and my main use would be to try to get 50-60fps shooting for video in 1080p? Is that FPS override? Could you explain how that's possible? There's one guy on RUclips (Melvin Jose) who makes videos on a 6D RAW in 50fps slo-mo and then uses Twixtor for extra slo-mo. He says he shoots at "1824 x 466 upscaled to 1920 x 816", but how do you upscale resolution?? Is ML for 6D safe? I have used ML on my t2i for years and I love it. I bought a 6D few months back and have been sceptical of installing ML because the site says its a "nightly build" and I don't really know what the means. I really miss the zebras and focus assist of ML though.
A nightly build is just the latest compile coming straight out of the source code that night. This means it hasn't been tested, but if you're really worried, there are always at least a couple people out there who have already installed it.
Not sure, you just have to use a good clapboard and sync in post. This is only with RAW. With normal H.264 recording you can totally record audio fine.
King Teddy Productions Yeah, totally depends on what you're recording and the media that you're recording to. For me the clips were usually 10-30 seconds min/max.

To install ML 1.1.3 you have to be running 1.1.3 canon firmware on your DSLR. I supply the file to do so in the description. Let me know if this helps or you need any other questions answered! Thanks.

Petrus Muara You'll have to downgrade. I have successfully done that with 1.1.4 firmware but I'm not sure about 1.1.6. It should be similar as far as I guess. Just install the 1.1.3 firmware included with this video in the description. Thanks and good luck!

Jacques Sender There is a link in the description. Click that link or paste it into your html address bar in your browser. This will bring you to Dropbox. Go into the folder for 1.1.3 firmware, download that firmware. Refer back to the video or good how to install firmware on your DSLR. Install the 1.1.3 firmware. Hope that helps.
+kaz FX You would need to enable the "mlv_rec" and the "mlv_snd" modules instead of the "raw_rec" in the Magic Lantern menu. After restarting the camera to enable the modules, you simply go into the Audio category of the Magic Lantern menu and switch "MLV Sound" to ON. Hope that helps!

Yes you can activate it in ML.

After install ML 1.1.6 in my 6D, the live view become grainy at all untill i press shutter button or AF button, the LV become clear again.
What's wrong in this case?
so it's running perfectly on my 6D ...and i used to run on my old 60D as well...and i got a simple question, when i shoot with ISO 2000 or higher...the ISO marker its shows on Orange color, and ISO1600 or lower, it White, as the other settings, like shutterspeed or kelvin
its like a warning about noise on high ISO or something ? everyone notice that?

Got a question for you, so if I install magic lantern on my 6D and as you know it only have 1 SD card slot and I have multiple SD cards. Do you need to have a SD card with ML in the camera all the time, like have ML on all my SD cards or will ML be installed forever with the first install? Hope this makes sense

Awesome! I'm a bit new to Magic Lantern, and my main use would be to try to get 50-60fps shooting for video in 1080p? Is that FPS override? Could you explain how that's possible? There's one guy on RUclips (Melvin Jose) who makes videos on a 6D RAW in 50fps slo-mo and then uses Twixtor for extra slo-mo. He says he shoots at "1824 x 466 upscaled to 1920 x 816", but how do you upscale resolution?? Is there like a Magic Lantern manual or something where it shows how to do all of the features? it's all so confusing

I'm currently running version 1.0.9 on my camera so I formatted the card, and when I tried to copy the firmware update file onto the card it wouldn't let me... do you have that file for mac?

Is ML for 6D safe?
I have used ML on my t2i for years and I love it. I bought a 6D few months back and have been sceptical of installing ML because the site says its a "nightly build" and I don't really know what the means. I really miss the zebras and focus assist of ML though.
Never had a problem with mine. I run it on my 6D, 5Dmkii and 5Dmkiii all of the time.
A nightly build is just the latest compile coming straight out of the source code that night. This means it hasn't been tested, but if you're really worried, there are always at least a couple people out there who have already installed it.

Not sure, you just have to use a good clapboard and sync in post. This is only with RAW. With normal H.264 recording you can totally record audio fine.

King Teddy Productions Yeah, totally depends on what you're recording and the media that you're recording to. For me the clips were usually 10-30 seconds min/max.

@@WeddingFilmSchool well, how come people are getting 2k out of the 5d mark 3, even tho it is older and has a slower processor, and they're also getting WAY higher resolution out of the 5d mk3, even tho it has the exact same processor as the 6d. I'm interested in magic lantern, but I wouldn't risk it unless it could push my resolution

To install ML 1.1.3 you have to be running 1.1.3 canon firmware on your DSLR. I supply the file to do so in the description. Let me know if this helps or you need any other questions answered! Thanks.

Petrus Muara You'll have to downgrade. I have successfully done that with 1.1.4 firmware but I'm not sure about 1.1.6. It should be similar as far as I guess. Just install the 1.1.3 firmware included with this video in the description. Thanks and good luck!

Jacques Sender There is a link in the description. Click that link or paste it into your html address bar in your browser. This will bring you to Dropbox. Go into the folder for 1.1.3 firmware, download that firmware. Refer back to the video or good how to install firmware on your DSLR. Install the 1.1.3 firmware. Hope that helps.

+kaz FX You would need to enable the "mlv_rec" and the "mlv_snd" modules instead of the "raw_rec" in the Magic Lantern menu. After restarting the camera to enable the modules, you simply go into the Audio category of the Magic Lantern menu and switch "MLV Sound" to ON.

Hi first thanks for putting up this tutorial. I have installed ML on firmware 1.1.6. Once I install it, do I delete the ML, autoexec.bin and ML-SETUP.FIR or do they have to remain on the card ?
