The thing is whoever won the third fight the narrative of their rivalry would be dominated by whoever won it. If Anderson won, the narrative would have been was that Anderson was always the better fighter and Chris just got two lucky fluke wins. Meanwhile if Chris won the narrative will be that he just had Anderson's number. The former especially since Anderson has a huge number of fans, many of whom are still to this day whinging and circle jerking about the Weidman fights saying Chris got lucky. While Weidman doesn't have very many fans at all, who won't be able to defend him or his legacy from the horde of Silva fans tearing it down.

Anderson’s was crazy because it was a rematch, and the consensus of the fluke ko because he was clowning around. I still remember the horror of seeing that replay. Fast forward how many years, and Weidman (a universally-liked good guy) has it happen on the first leg kick of his fight vs Uriah Hall. Equally nice, softer spoken fighter Hall, picks up his second brutal, possibly career ending finish, as in a TUF bout, he was responsible for the spinning head kick ko, which Dana dubbed, “the most viscous ko he’d ever seen.” That had to be difficult for Hall to deal with afterwards. Most fighters, savage as they can be during a fight, usually don’t want to see their opponents badly injured, as both incidents were for Hall. That’s gotta weigh on his conscience. Crazy sport.

Disagree, it would have been a very competitive fight. I'm not the biggest fan of Cejudo, but the fact he levelled up so much from 2016 to 2018 was beyond remarkable. He was a completely different fighter going into the rematch, and if they ran it back a third time we would have witnessed some of the highest technical mastery and fight IQ of any duo of fighters in the UFC. It was a missed opportunity.
