You guys underestimate Dana's wealth he don't have to collect personally of course, you know he employees a roster of killers for money already right, who would gladly go collect for 10% Do you get the point?
Folks always talk about how “violent” and “dangerous” mixed martial arts is compared to boxing… yet on average 13 boxers a year die due to ring related injuries (3 amateur and 10 professional) and the numbers have been fairly consistent in the modern era… since the inception of mixed martial arts (tracked since 1994) there have been 16 octagon related deaths… TOTAL. Amateur and pro… in over 20 years. Also… CTE cases are OVERWHELMINGLY higher in former boxers compared to MMA fighters. And the UFC, the largest MMA promotion in the world, since their implementation of weight classes and unified rules… have actually never had someone die due to Octagon related injuries.
Yep. It's a lot less disruptive for the brain to get KO'd by a couple of hard shots in a 15-25 minutes-long fight, than to get hit dozens of time per round with extra-padded gloves in fights that last 30-40 minutes. And in boxing you get a 10 count, which means the punishment gets unnecessarily extended. Add grappling and submissions, and no wonder MMA is far less likely to give you CTE than boxing. Hell, bicycling, basketball, baseball and American football are more likely to give you brain damage than MMA.
I also would like to remind boxing fans that bare knuckle boxing belongs to your sport, not MMA. There are no kicks, submissions or takedowns. It's 100% boxing. That crowd is likely the worst in all of sports. So keep that in mind when we talk about savagery.
The irony of the Darren Rovell situation is hilarious. Everything he said about Nunes (who I consider to the the female GOAT) has turned out to be true. Hell, even the UFC marketed Ronda at the expense of Nunes in their fight.
UFC 224 (Nunes vs. Pennington) and 215 (Nunes vs. Shevchenko 2) have the lowest Pay-Per-View buys for a championship main event since UFC 38 in 2002 so Rovell might have a point about Nunes' star power, especially compared to Rousey's (even after her defeat by Holm).
I have never in my life, and I am no spring chicken, ever heard someone say that "The people in the audience, wear tattoos." I found it hilarious, and this old guy's rant was like something from the 50s, when the world wasn't so tolerant of different issues haha. It was like going back in time :p From now on, when people ask how many tattoos do I have, no longer will I just give a number, I will be saying "I wear 44 tattoos." Loved it haha
The fact that Frank Shamrock and Fedor Emelianenko are not and likely never will be in the UFC hall of fame shows that it, much like the wwe hall of fame, is not a real indicator of who actually matters in the history of the sport but it's rather just a shelf for the petty, grudge holding, thin skinned, overly powerful boss to collect action figures of his favorite pets.
