Paul is incomparable. I watched Aftersun after my wife’s notice and was blank when it ended. Cut to, 30 seconds later I am balling my eyes out with my face in my hands. No film has ever made me that emotional, ever. Then I watched Normal People, (my wife has watched it 3 times already) and I cannot stop thinking about. That show is a monument in film making and their acting was un matched. He’s the feckin best

Can we acknowledge how good Tom Power is in an interview? He asks the questions I'm curious about and he doesn't get in his interview subject's way of expressing what they have to say. Paul Mescal was a revelation in Normal People. I can't wait to see Aftersun.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest actors of our generation, if not the best. Not trying to put down other actors to praise one, but he’s severely underrated when compared to the likes of Timothee Chalamet and Tom Holland, who while extremely talented, do get a bit of overhype just for breathing and looking pretty. Paul’s a masterful actor at 26. You feel the depth of his sorrow but also the tremendous love he feels for his daughter. One of the most vulnerable and layered performances I’ve seen in the last ten years

My thoughts exactly 🥲Normal People meant the world to me and I can't wait to watch their new projects (Aftersun and Where the crawdads sing) and see their actor wings spread even further 💞 The fact they are very down to earth and deep human beings and everybody values them as such makes everything even more special and precious (which I can't say for some young too hyped actors like you said), so I'm actually glad they are on a league of their own, like protect them at all costs ✨

I love a lot of the new actors of this generation: Timothee, Florence, Anya, Kaluyya...just for example but I really genuinely find Paul to be the best. His performance in Normal People was just one of the most incredibly truthful and natural performances I had ever seen. It felt incredibly real and human that was unlike anything I had seen by an actor. It was acting without the "look at me, I'm acting". I do acting myself and I am 23 but at 21, it completely changed the way I view the craft and how to perform which really says something about his talent.
Highly recommend a short he is in, Drifting. He is brilliant in it.

I am not Canadian but I came across Tom Power doing interviews by accident. He is a superb interviewer. He really does his research into his guests. His questions are thoughtful and encourage guests to talk. Just as important he also listens carefully to their answers and is confident enough to insert follow up questions which are not on his clipboard. It's so rare among chat show hosts these days to find someone who understands that his listeners/viewers are tuning in to learn about the guest. You can see his guests are engaging with the questions and that they appreciate that Tom takes them and their work seriously. I hope Canadians appreciate how good Tom is at what he does.

I've noticed a lot of hype around Paul as an actor, and while he certainly has talent and deserves recognition for his success, it's important to avoid perpetuating toxic levels of hype. Making statements like "Greatest of his generation" or "None better" may seem well-intentioned, but they can ultimately lead to negative consequences.
It's important to remember that all actors' careers are unique and that we should approach them with perspective and respect. Paul's achievements are noteworthy, but making bold claims about his abilities is unfair and diminishes the talents of other actors. Additionally, excessive hype can spoil the viewing experience for audiences and place unnecessary pressure on actors.
It's also important to remember that there will always be new and emerging actors who will bring their own unique talents and perspectives to the industry. Hype culture can be especially detrimental to these actors, as it can crush their hopes and with it their potential before they even have a chance to shine.
Moreover, the immense pressure and unfair expectations that come with hype can weigh heavily on Paul and other actors who are already established in the industry. It's important to remember that they are human beings and not just characters on a screen and as such, we should be mindful of the impact that our words and actions have on them.
Instead, let's acknowledge and appreciate Paul's accomplishments while also giving breathing space and respect to other actors , established or yet to be, and their unique paths in the industry. Let's celebrate the diversity of talent in the industry and not focus on creating a culture of hype that harms everyone involved.

I agree in many respects but it'll all be subjective anyway really. There are always going to be the best in each generation but it's the best to certain people. While I think he's probably the best up and coming, others may think completely differently because they relate to others more and neither are wrong.
I do agree it's too much pressure though and he's just been plunged into it so we should just celebrate his successes but, saying he's one of the best or the best of his age group I think is fair with what he's done and portrayed so far from my point of view. I've never been so mentally anguished and felt so deeply moved by a show or film as those he's done which is what's formed my opinion. There are some who hate aftersun who likely disagree. It's all subjective in art really I suppose.
