My wife and I are retired. She was a busy interior designer in the Chicagoland area. I've shown her many youtube videos of other designers and she usually scoffs at them as being impractical or too trendy with no long lasting viability or sometimes her "that's just a stupid idea" The other day I showed her your channel and she actually watched the entire video and said "I like her. She makes sense. She practical but classy". Keep up the good work!
I love your videos, Liz! I have a question: could you provide a floor plan with a completed lighting plan that we could study? You showed one really briefly in the video and I think that would be helpful with determining which lights should go where.
This was great... very informative! Thank you! I'd love to see a video on the different ways to light the insides of cabinets with glass door fronts and also the different ways to do undercabinet lighting... and what things we should be considering (pros and cons) for each. That would be SO helpful!
Fantastic video on recessed lighting layouts!! You are providing such valuable knowledge through each of your videos. We are building a home and I have applied your recommendations inside and out. Thank you for filling a niche here on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
Where can I find information on lighting for tall ceilings, renovating an old schoolhouse and dealing with large tall classrooms. Thanks enjoying your videos
Me either as I look at beam spread for lights and photo metrics it’s hard to visualize the light levels on a work surface or floor. at some distance from the fixture the light will fade-away. So if I have a 12’ ceiling that is 9’ to the countertop is that enough to think the footcandles are going to be sufficient for residential kitchen prep? I’m sure you don’t want to get too technical in a video…. But you seem to just touch on the beam spread in elevation and wall washing and lighting the corners maybe something that covers these lighting in a little more detail thanks again
@@SteveN-sy4bm with a quality light engine like an Elco Koto, you will have more than sufficient light. Use a tighter beam spread or the “architectural” version and you’ll have no issues. Their tech help is amazing as well! Good luck and keep me posted!
Great video. I think there should be a #11 - do you NEED a ceiling light there to start with? I find most modern homes have FAR more than they have any need of having.
I like your tip about not placing a light in front of a window! But what should we do in the case that the sink is in front of the window? I want to make sure I light up that area but don't want to cause the black mirror you mentioned
You can put a recessed light above the sink. Just pull it off the wall 18” ish and use a narrow beam spread, like 18-22 to concentrated where you want the light. Also deep bales are a must! Get that build up in there!💡👩🎨
I love your videos because they are so helpful in placing lighting! Do you use 4" recessed lights for the task lighting over the counters? Would 6" be too large?
Depends on what you’re trying to light. If it’s the wall wash you’re looking for, keep them tight. But for ambient light, maybe 18-30” depending on what’s below!
@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa I'm wary of the "no shadows in corners" rule. My ceilings are relatively low, so I'm trying to not create corner shadows that will make the space feel smaller.
This is probably the MOST helpful video about lighting I’ve seen in the whole of RUclips. Very informative. Thank you Liz.
I’m glad you found it helpful! Getting the hang of this 🎥🤣

Hi Liz, Lighting is so important on so many levels when doing any redesign or a new build. I'm glad I found your channel. Mark & Scott

Hmmm 🤔 guess I should make one🎥. I can’t think of a good place for info

Great video...what program do you use?
I upload screenshots of the plans to Canva. Then you can add a key and play! It’s simple to use, easy to share and clear!

It does seem excessive sometimes

Ideally, smaller is always my preference. Less hole for glare💡
What about beam angle for the task lights? Is there an ideal angle for task lighting?
@@CarlC-p8u depends on the surface you want to light. 35 degrees ish is the most common.
What is the issue with wafer lights and canned recessed lights?
Which one wafers or recessed cans? I got a video for that 🤣😇ruclips.net/video/NAk9JbUQLq4/видео.html
@@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa Why do you not like wafer lights?
@keekeemyfirstcat8410 I just prefer a better quality light. They tend to blow out a space with too much light.
"wafer shit" lol
Glad you’re listening 🤣
I'm using small 2 inch recessed lights. I don't like huge recessed cans. So how far from the wall in the corners should they be?

@@DG-im8vw 24” of each wall is a good start!
@@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa do you find that 18 inches off wall is acceptable or too close for some reason? My lights are small, 2 inches.
The hole’s small but the beam spread will fill with light, depending on how wide. 18” off the corner will work. Just provide for the middle 💡
As always we learn something new from your videos.
Is there an email we could reach you ? Thnx
