I experienced COVID that lasted a good 10 days. At first, I believed I was fine but I began to lose more hair than normal. After doing some research, I've come to realize it’s from the stress my body had during that time and also due to the shampoo that I was using. My hair had started falling out like crazy. I mean, it was everywhere, all the time, and it filled the drain more than I had ever seen! For me, two things stopped my hair falling out. One, I stopped using Selsun Blue with selenium. Boom. Within about a week, hair stopped falling out. (I had read that the selenium could cause hair to fall out excessively, and in my case, it seems that was the problem. Funny, I was only using it because I did really like how it made my hair itself do, not because I had dandruff or dry scalp.) And second, I started 2000 mg fish oil daily, and I soon began to grow lots of new baby hair around my hairline. My hair does not seem thicker, but it has stopped getting thinner. However, by starting the two interventions at the same time, I have no way to determine if stopping the old shampoo, or starting the fish oil, or both together, is the reason my hair stopped falling out.

Funny I was so stressed out about my hair falling out, I decided to not think about it. As a result I haven't been taking care of it well and now it's worse than ever. Stress is a paradox.
The most hair loss and greying I've experienced in my life had been 1) during the time i was Working on my thesis 2) during the corona Lockdown. Both very stressful times...
I was assistant director of a 12 room surgery department…I did that for 5 years and left because of the stress and lack of work life balance. Now I’m a registered nurse in a clinic part time. Much better for stress levels and hopefully my hair appreciates it. Did any of you have your gray hair go back to making color again? I have naturally reddish blonde hair and noticed my first two grayish white looking hairs! I kinda freaked out but I had to remind myself: DONT STRESS IT! 😂🤪

@@roxane1237 I hope it gets better! I’m glad yours did! It used to be thicker and longer when I was younger. I wonder if the omeprazole I’ve taken for years has anything to do with it. Medically they say that’s not a common side effect but I’ve read forums with tons of people experiencing hair thinning and loss after starting omeprazole (reflux medication) I tried to manage my reflux naturally after learning that but I didn’t even last a week it was terrible.
@@stephanieg8545 the omeprazole can be a part of the issue but it’s a very very small percentage(less than 1%) . Good thing is hair loss from omeprazole is reversible. Give it up to 6 months. Hi doctor, how about drinking collagen in the morning, taking biotin and eating a lots of vegetables and salad? Please also make a video on what time is the right tome to take vitamins, like vitamin C, biotin, multi vitamins? Thank you. 😊
There isn’t a specific time to take them but it’d be easier to do in the morning get it out the way for the day. Do be mindful that some vitamins have to be taken with food. Most biotin vitamins I’ve come across need to be taken with food. If it’s a multi vitamin most likely not. Also, certain vitamins can’t be taken with certain drinks (acidic drinks not liquor lol) or there are some that work better with a certain drink.

I've got a question Dr Youn. Recently, I saw a video of a girl having alopecia and her journey on growing her hair back. One of the things she explained was applying rosemary oil with some kind of base oil but she didn't just apply the oil. She said that she would use a derma roller on her scalp and then going in with the oil. At first my reaction was "yikes 😱😱" because I could imagine the pain but I also wonder if there's any side effect to derma rolling your scalp. I have watched many videos of people doing it and they usually have great things to say about that method. What is your opinion on this???
Thank you😭 I’ve been incredibly stressed and my scalp hurt a lot too .. i’m trying to de stress and i’m going to try the rosemary oil and carrier oils with it along with fenugreek seeds😊 Lots of love to anyone in need of a hug🤗
I am a woman. I have tried rosemary oil religiously for six months. Also tried Nutrafol for Six months. Neither worked for me. Amazon’s Minixidil and Rogaine both worked amazingly. Just my experience. For women, you just use it once at night.
I use Nutrafol, bondiboost growth system which they also offer procapil for hair growth and my hair was thinning like crazy and now it’s thick as it was when I was a teen and finally growing again. My issues major stress, bleaching hair, I did a strict keto diet, and washed 2-3 times a week. I also have a family history of thinning hair. I cut back to bleaching only every 10 weeks washing my hair only once a week and adding the things above it took about 6 months to get where I am now. I do believe the vitamins helped a lot and using more natural shampoo’s.
@@alexaluma6104 I normally just use agadir oil it’s a little bit heavy and not everyone likes that but it seals my ends and leaves my hair soft. You could also try a co-wash it’s a mix of shampoo and conditioner and it’s easier on the hair. I personally don’t use Iron pills but I have read lots about iron deficiency and hair loss but my problems seems to be more stress related. Also update my hair is still getting thicker and growing but if I miss the Nutrafol for more than a week my hair loss will go from those random hairs to slowly increasing in loss. This may be due to probiotics in mine that are supposed to help with stress and gut health.

About 70 percent of your body's iron is found in the red blood cells of your blood called hemoglobin and in muscle cells called myoglobin. Hemoglobin is essential for transferring oxygen in your blood from the lungs to the tissues. Myoglobin, in muscle cells, accepts, stores, transports and releases oxygen. 👏🏽
Dr. Youn, America has a population of about 330 million people, so what you are saying is that almost every American has problems with thinning hair (320 millions)???
"320 MILLION Americans have thinning hair". HAHAHAHAHA! there are 330 million inhabitants in the United States! That means almost everybody has thinning hair, including children. HAHAHAHAHAHA
I’m so sorry Sana, I am actually 65 and although we think my hair should probably be thinning now, I’ve had alopecia for a few years, so it’s been falling out gradually. Even though I’m grateful for it just falling out gradually, it still has made me feel numb with the thought that eventually I won’t have any hair. But I have always said there’s always someone worse off than me, so I’ve not shed a tear over my alopecia. I’m going to try vitamin D as I have occasionally been quite low on this after blood tests. Also I will try Rosemary oil, and then just hope for the best. I’m not under any illusion though, as I know this kind of alopecia has no cure, but I’ll never stop trying. xx
Try using walnut oil on your scalp when you sleep at night. I did this and saw new hair growth within about 10 days. Not only that, it was coming in my natural color and not grey anymore. I swear by it!!
Maybe part of the solution is acceptance and normalizing it. Society focuses on thick (long) hair so much that even people with thin hair feel less. I’d love to walk around with a shaved head but I know I’ll get too many looks so I’ll have to opt for a wig-even on the hottest most humid days
VERY IMPORTANT ABOUT ROSEMARY ESSENTIAL OIL: NEVER APPLY IT STRAIGHT TO YOUR SCALP! always use diluted in a carrier oil, between 1-2%. a good oil for hair is coconut or castor oil (this one also helps with hair growth). and massage the scalp.
Would you be able to explain how to apply the rosemary topical oil (men and woman)? I know you’ll need a carrier oil but the application and the right ratio and such ... would be helpful 🤞🏼

I had the same problem. I had iron deficiency. Rosemary and Peppermint oil in organic castor oil nightly grew my hair back. Also a TON of organic veggies.
@@creativegirl9710 truuuue! I use to be vegetarian for a while, even went vegan for a very short while. My hair was falling and grew back thin, my nails were brittle and my skin dry and itchy af. After introducing poultry, meat and butter back to my diet, also Omega3, everything got better. Even my hairdresser mentioned that my hair felt thicker. Suitable diet is a good solution, but it's not a fast one. Took 4-6 months to reverse the damage done on the plant based diet, didn't suit me at all! My body works better on a omnivore diet, been on it for the past 3 or so years, never going back.
Try and buy organic/free range meat products and eggs if you can. Factory farmed animals are choc-full of antibiotics, hormones, pesticides and stress hormones. You don't want to be putting that in your body.

Yamben, in case he doesnt have time to reply. He sells products on his website but I am not sure what he carries. I haven't bought anything yet. If you are a teen with combo skin, that can be tricky. Be sure to clean your face daily and then use a toner, especially important in the oily areas. There are lots of amazing exfoliation products. My son uses mild peels to keep the oil under control and for acne and pores. There is a good salicylic peel/mask by the Ordinary and it is affordable. They also sell a stronger one - their aha bha peel and it is quite incredible for addressing multiple skin issues. This is just my personal opinion on approaching these issues. Maybe others here will have some insight.
Stress really does cause hair thinning and falling. I was 13 when I started reading novels that are depressing and made me stressed for weeks and months and I'm always overthinking. And I noticed some of my hairs are falling out because of stressing myself out from reading novels.
Hello Dr. Youn! Could you do a video on the best procedures to treat acne scars? I've done some research on treatments, such as laser and dermabrasion, but I'm fearful of permanently damaging my face with the wrong choice :( Thank you for your great videos!
You can try scar creams like Cicatricure sold at Walgreens or other scar creams that are the generic store brand. I've looked into them and the active ingredient is onion, which now writing this perhaps even rubbing some onion could be beneficial, obviously there's the unpleasant smell but I've put onion juice in my hair because it's also really good for hair growth and it's not that bad. Definitely only do so when you are able to spend the day at home. Maybe you may just want to avoid the messiness and smell all together and just buy one of the ointments. I have used the generic store brand and have been happy with the results. Good luck to you and everyone else! :)

There are other factors which may also be genetic. 😕

Hi doctor, how about drinking collagen in the morning, taking biotin and eating a lots of vegetables and salad?
Please also make a video on what time is the right tome to take vitamins, like vitamin C, biotin, multi vitamins?
Thank you. 😊
When and what to take vitamins with is very important!

The derma roller is not painful; just can get tangled in the hair as it grows longer.
Thank you😭 I’ve been incredibly stressed and my scalp hurt a lot too .. i’m trying to de stress and i’m going to try the rosemary oil and carrier oils with it along with fenugreek seeds😊 Lots of love to anyone in need of a hug🤗
I have Amazon free products, refundable after review.
Did it work?
I do believe the vitamins helped a lot and using more natural shampoo’s.
did you use vitamin and iron supplies and like rosemary oils for your hair?
Linda M oh, thank you for replying. I see that you suffer more from stress that's making you lose your hair, I'm the opposite. I'm losing my hair due to iron and vitamin deficiency, but it's not working. I just asked to see if you suffer from the same thing but I guess not. Anyways, thanks for replying :)

Hello Dr.
Retinoids (prescription needed) and retinols (OTC) are clinically proven to help treat with acne scars
The best way is to talk to a proper dermatologist.
