Go to metal pipe clamps instead of the zip ties. Stronger and should look more heavy duty.

I am the same can’t stand to waste stuff. I have a good idea for you. Like me you like to work right outside your garage door. I was constantly interrupted by weather or it was too hot-needed some shade. I am sure one of your sponsors would give you a retractable awning you can install for a weather break right outside the garage. Mine works great.
