@@RockerProfI don't see them on Kala's web site. Do you have a URL for them? And how do they sound? I've not yet seen any video reviews w/the flatwound strings.
The actual scale length (not just the total length of the instrument), the actual gauge of the strings, and the availability of strings for this would have been useful info on this rather unusual instrument.
Great questions. I did mention the scale length of 23.5 inches and you are welcome to contact Kala Brand Music for the specific string Gauges (I also shared their website). Make sure you tell them you saw this on Bass Musician Magazine. :) Thanks for watching and for your input! Please feel free to Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.
@BassMusicianMagazine Ah, my mistake on the scale length. Somehow I missed it. Many years ago I came across a really small no-name bass in a music store that was wreck, got it super cheap and did some work to restore it. Never figured out who made it but the scale on it was three or four inches shorter than the standard short scale of 30" . Pretty unusual as I bought in the '90s but it seemed like it was maybe late '70s or '80s from the look and the hardware. I thought that bass was really small but the U-bass beats that out by a bunch!
I would suggest that before you buy, go to your local music store and pick up basses with round wounds and flats to see what feels best to your fingers. That is how it will feel with your U-Bass and you want to feel good so you are inclined to play more. It is really a matter of taste. Thanks for watching and for your input! The balance seemed fine to me. As always, I recommend you get one in your hands to give it a test run. Thanks for watching and for your input! Please feel free to Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.
Good professional review without superlatives or smack talk about "rubber" strings (not rubber BTW), 20 basses in the background (Doubt more than two get played, rest are dust covered), glitzy demo to impress (Not really a demo of the instruments range of capabilities). Good place to watch for reviews. Thanks. 😊
Glad you liked this Hal. Not even close to 20 basses and the dust was from our recent move. You are welcome to try out one these basses to decide if it's capabilities fit your particular needs. Thanks for watching and for your input! Please feel free to Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.
Hello! Does the tuning hold well or does it cause problems? I bought this Ubass Kala Fretted Solid Body but the strings sound very “metallic” and the tuning is wrong, it is difficult to find the tuning with a clip tuner and it also sounds out of tune, no matter how many times I play a note it doesn't give the correct note? what will it be???
Hello. I did not have any issues with the tuning (I used a clip-on tuner). The sound sample included gives you an idea of how it sounded in my hands. If you are running into specific issues I would contact Kala Brand Music directly. The are great. Thanks for watching and for your input! Please feel free to Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.

Apparently, according to Kala, they will be coming out with a set of custom flatwounds for this model.

@@7171jay NIce. If you are looking to keep it compact, a U-Bass is the ticket! :)
I am looking at buying one of these. I do not play bass but want to. Did you try this Kala with flat wounds? Or would you recommend the stock strings?

How is the balance in sound output between the strings? It seems fine from watching the video.
