When there is so much polarizing opinion from the 100% pro-China and the 100% anti-China crowd, this is a breath of fresh air and really leading by example on "getting on with it." I really appreciate that... this is the info and opinions that we really need now, I live in one of the cities under quarantine and I as far as I know, this virus only transmit through mucous membrane, so always remember to keep your hands off your face and stay away from the crowd

WE owe China big time for trying to protect the REST OF HUMANITY.
Even if their quarantine fails we still owe them for the huge amount of effort they have gone to and the economic sacrifice they have made and the personal sacrifices the citizens have made .
They DID NOT have to effectively shut down their country for us but they have JUST IN CASE IT WAS SUPER BAD MORTALITY RATE.
With the information so far it appears we are just looking at a potentially new virus as deadly as flu but even then we will have 100s of thousands of deaths a year from it across the planet.

In the DRC there has been a bad measles outbreaks. its sad that people who have the access to vaccines dont use them when people are dying in poorer countries because they don't have access.
Especially when a big part of the reason they cant get access is because first world countries don't wanna listen to science and basically took out all preservatives that were allowing them to be fairly cheap in quantity for those poorer countries as well!

When I was in DRC, the shots would be flown there by the UN (free) and they give them to the churches to give out. The churches only then provide them to 'good god fearing' members of their particular church.
It's sad.
live attenuated vaccines must always be kept at refrigerator temperature. If these vaccines have not been kept at refrigerator temperature it can have reduce potency or giving no protection at all. Bringing an large quantity of live attenuated vaccines around in the "bush" in Africa, and/or other underdeveloped countries can be a logistical nightmare and a huge challenge due to the requirement of it to be at refrigerator temperature.
It's sad with all the truth out there people still don't know vaccines dont work and are dangerous. Get informed

Hey Scottie I work at a CVS minute clinic, most insurances comply with all vaccines, and without insurance, we can usually bring the price down to nothing with vouchers and coupons, price should not be a barrier to health in our eyes!

There's a shortage of face masks in our city, because people were panic buying and hoarding. And I'm genuinely considering going to school wearing an industrial paint respirator.

Full face masks are about the only thing that really offers protection.
The RZ M2 Masks help quite a bit too, and you can reuse it after a wash.
most paint respirators are n95 and higher

I would say small businesses should be fine for the most part. They will process performance-based payroll, as no one is working means no performance, the cost will be reduced. And the demand for manufacture will keep stable for a short time.
For sure, in the long run, the international company will reconsider picking another country based on the outcome of this coronavirus.

Some insight into the manufacturing situation around dealing with the CoronaVirus:
With all the workers on break, all the medical supply factories are either shut down or barely running. I work for a medical device company in the US, and every single one of our suppliers in China (both past and current) have contacted us. They all need supplies, particularly alcohol pads and face masks. One of our suppliers said they need 1 million masks for the government of Shenzhen. They are willing to pay US prices and ship them by air, but unfortunately no one seems to have them in the US, or at least those that do aren't very willing to sell their stock (since new stock won't be coming out of China anytime soon). We are selling whatever alcohol pads we can back to our alcohol pads supplier, but we were already low on stock before this started.
I've heard from pharmacies here in the US that they are running out of the masks as well, because people are buying them to ship to their families in China.
EDIT: They are now asking for thermometers as well, we are going to ship all the thermometers in our inventory as soon as we can secure a space on a flight for them.

This is 100% true. After online supply (dental medical) ran out, we have bought up masks from farming communities outside cities.
As a result of the medical mask supply shortage schools in HK are closed and many offices are asking their staff to work from home.
Jeez. Medical supply companies forced to buy back supplies for the local market? That sounds pretty grim... 😬
Ph transported 3.16 mil masks to china,and now we dont have much stocks for our own people lol

Just letting you know, your beard makes your N-95 worthless. No seal, no deal. "I'm really attached to my beard. Do I really have to shave to wear a respirator? Yes, if you are assigned to wear any tight fitting respirator, such as a disposable N95, half-mask or full-faced cartridge respirator. Even a day's stubble will compromise your protection by interfering with the mask to face seal."
I am having the HARDEST time getting people to understand that, and women give up that non side burn hair you're not going to GROW a beard!!🙄 (for the full face mask they usually fit further out on the sides of the face for women)
My husband works at a coal power plant and he has a small beard and he passes hit fit test every year!

When I first heard about the virus my first thought and this going to sound weird. My first thought was you and your channel. I wondered if you where ok and safe and I’m glad to hear you are. And I also hope your friends are ok as well. Me personally I work at an airport here in Brisbane Australia and until today we where still getting planes from China and I was worried to the point I purchased masks. I have yet to put one on. Thanks for posting this. Keep us updated about yourself and your friends. You have left me with some food for thought too. I will book a doctor’s appointment on Monday to check if I need any boosters etc thanks for the advice.

@@mikuhl Indeed. Microwaved water can explode if too hot (microwaved boiling water doesn't actually display activity) and any more intense shaking might make the whole cup "explode" potentially causing injuries.

it affects the smell of certain subtle flavors/scent.
if you want a stronger tea flavor, cold brewing tea overnight is strongest IMO.

Thank you so much Scotty for doing this. I was in Shenzhen for the lunar new year this year just before the corona virus broke out. When it happened, I had no idea what was going on. My wife is Chinese, her family, my in-laws are Chinese... and I can't hardly speak Mandarin at all... I had very little understanding of what was happening at the time. The only thing I really knew is that a new virus similar to SARS had broke out, and we should all wear a mask, stay home and wash our hands after touching anything. Luckily for me, I was on hiatus from my job and a planned 2 month stay turned into a 7 month stay without missing any work. I know it got really hard for a lot of people, but me not so much. I was lucky. And while I was there in Shenzhen, I saw it all. It was crazy times. It's 9 months later, I am back in the US, and we are still dealing with this virus. China is doing extremely well. The US, not so much. Super sad. But looking back at this video and seeing and hearing your message about what happened in retro-spec really makes me feel good. Hearing you talk about those events back in January and February 2020 and being so cool and rational and empathetic about the situation really feels good. So yeah, again, thanks for posting this.

Similar thing happen to me, but for my Hepatitis vaccine. Totally surprised also when my blood got tested since I am aware that I have completed my shots during my childhood & my field at college includes interacting with blood & needles 😨. It's a good thing that I was informed and got my booster shots after that & before I got exposed to the hospital during my internship.
This new decade starts off with a wild ride indeed.

Had the same thing, also for hepatitis. 100% sure I got the vaccine, but I lost the immunity. It happens in some cases apparently. (Also my autism magically disappeared 😉)
It is a common thing for vaccines to not for Hepatitis. That is the reason why doctors and nurses get tested for it after they get the vaccine
i got the hep shot twice and my blood tested and doc said i'm not showing im immune to it...so they didnt work

Just yesterday I got myself vaccinated for the first time in my life. My parents were antivax but I'm getting myself on track. I still have more to get and boosters in a few months but I got my first MMR round now.

Living in Munich, where at the moment 5 people have the virus, may call me strange but in my eyes quarantine a city might be a drastic action, but it makes sense, especially during holidays where everybody is on the go.
That gives a chance that the epidemic may not turn into a huge pandemic.

It turns into a pandemic when the virus crops up in other countries. The WHO declared it a full Pandemic on Tuesday night.
I think incinerating those infected for the greater good wouldn't be too unreasonable. Id prefer not to see 200 million people die to this virus.

I just had a long conversation with a friend about COVID and it made me think about this video. I remember reading about COVID in sparse news stories in November and December of 2019. I had learned a lot about ebola in biology class so obviously I was pretty concerned when I heard what was happening in wuhan. I remember seeing your video and thinking "finally someone else with a platform is talking about this". This video and the information greatly shaped my knowledge of COVID from the beginning of the pandemic onward. I may be alive because of you. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your experience and the information you gave in this video. It was definitely a step outside of your normal scope but I'm so grateful you did it.

Here in the US we have 120v for our primary electrical power. An electric kettle takes /forever/ to heat up.
