Thank you so much for an easy-to-follow video! We are setting up this tank for our little grandson, and I haven't had a fish tank since I was a child, so I appreciate the instructions. Very clear and pleasant to watch
This was super helpful! I’m a first time fish owner so I was a little confused by the instructions the tank came with. My snakes’ enclosures were easier to build 😂 but this definitely helped out a lot. Thank you!
Thank you for the video! How has your pump held up? I’m downsizing from a 55 gal w/Fluval that was a work house. I was reluctant with this submersible pump version. Looking forward to your feedback.
Thanks for you useful video this was a huge help with our new life project😂 I have a question regarding your water heater. We have trouble finding a model that would fit our aquarium with the lid on. Could you tell us which model is it? Thanks!
I’m very happy to hear it helped you! The heater I’m using is the TopFin 20W Betta Aquarium Heater! It’s nice and compact and sits in the compartment perfectly. It’s actually marketed for 2.5 gallons and under, but I’ve used it in 5’s and 9’s and it’s worked great with no issues!
The water can be over or under the filter spout. I generally have it above so there’s a little bit less current for my fish, but it’s also louder that way as you can hear the water hitting the surface. Underneath is good to keep it quiet, but might make the current stronger for your fish. But there’s no minimum water line as long as it’s close to the spout.
I have a betta in this tank and this may be a question that should be obvious but is the water suppose to be filled high enough to flow into the open slits where the filter is?
Yes, it does have to be past that point! Some tanks like the Fluval Flex have an intake tube at the bottom as well, but the Spec only has the one at the top so it has to be filled that high to bring water in. If you’re having issues with the betta being pulled against it, I hear there are modifications for it - both to buy or instructions to make - on both Etsy and Reddit to cover up the openings a bit more!
@@BetterBetta Thank you. He is not doing well and just laying down and not eating. I have had him around a year and a half. I am trying everything. Do you recommend this tank for Bettas or is there a better choice?
Thanks for the video!. I just downsized to a 5 gal. tank and set this one up this morning,... it was super easy!. The only challenge was maneuvering the pump into it's section without having the parts come apart. All the best!. Peter 🐟 🐠 🐡
I believe so! If I remember correctly, it is the only thing that attaches the pump to outside the compartment, so without it I don’t believe the water would be directed properly- or it would rattle around!
In terms of function, I don't think it makes too much of a difference, but I'd recommend below the water line because it will be a lot quieter that way- less splashing :)
Diggin' the new tank! Just wondering though, is there enough room to hide the heater inside one of the filtration compartments? Maybe where the water pump sits?
The spout helps direct the water and hold the tube in place, but it doesn’t adjust the flow or not work without it. As long as the tube stays in place and water comes out, it will still function just fine without it! If you bought it new, you could always call the store you bought it from - or the manufacturer - and see if you can replace it/get a new spout!
I ended up doing that! You'd think after struggling with trying to find where the cord was supposed to go as there was no cutout in the lid, that this would have clicked before it was commented, but alas, no.
Wonderful how to set up video! TY! It really helped setting up my tank. May I ask you a question? Does the light turn off? Should it stay on at night? I'm super new at this!
The light turns off by tapping a sensor on the light strip. I think some people may turn it to the blue lights at night, but I turn the lights completely off at nighttime.
It has a blue light setting thats good for glo fish, I’m not sure if the tank is big enough for a tetra school though. It would definitely be good for a Glo betta if they are available where you are , though! I put glo ornaments in this tank under the blue light setting and they glowed really nicely.
I had one up until about a year ago when moving and decided not to keep it. Wish I did, because recently I found special outflow bars and custom prefilters for these tanks on etsy. Of course these were not available for sale when I had the 5G version, and have since hit the market. I highly recommend for your tank especially if you’re going to stock it with a betta! That was my one complaint is no matter how low I turned the pump down it was always too strong. I would then block it with a diy setup and got a film buildup on the water surface most times. Just so anyone looking at this tank knows!
@@BetterBetta Awesome, keep us updated! What I do like about these all in one tanks such as the Spec, Marineland portrait, and others is that there’s plenty of space for filter media. Much easier to keep a cycle that way! Eagerly awaiting the next video :)
Oh nice, I’ll have to check out ETSY to see what they have! And thank you, and I agree! This year will be my tenth year of Bombers season tickets! Definitely best team in the league 😏

I'm guessing you're a teacher or something with a Scape like that. Christ. 😂 Shiney/luminous substrates or gems need to be banned. It's just tack. You would never see that on a guys aqua channel. Theyd be shut down and exhiled 😂😂😂😂 The bottle of vodka may have something to do with that idea. Good clear presentation otherwise.
Not a teacher, but yes more common with us girls lol. I will publicly admit this scape is an improvement from my 2016-ish scapes. That was the era of "find every cute ornament I can and put them in my tank all at once". Now THAT was tacky haha. I now only live plant/naturally decorate my tanks, my fish probably like that a lot better as well!
While I'll be the first to admit I've done some absolutely hideous scapes before, I actually kinda liked this one lol. But I agree a completely natural setup looks way nicer, even before you consider the health benefits.

Thanks for the info. One question, how far should I fill the water in the tank? Does the water have to stay under the black nozzle?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out as well

Was wondering the same thing...my new betta seems to get sucked up against it. Wondering if I should drop the water level.
Yes, it does have to be past that point! Very clear and concise. Thank you!
You’re very welcome, I’m glad you liked it!
Do you need to add any other hang on filter or is the sump filter good enough?
The sump filter is all you need! It’s a powerful little filter.
@@BetterBetta How often do you replace the sump filter? Every time I do water changes?
Does the nozzle forbthe filter have to be on there?
I believe so! If I remember correctly, it is the only thing that attaches the pump to outside the compartment, so without it I don’t believe the water would be directed properly- or it would rattle around!
Super helpful; thanks! (One more question: should the filter spout ideally be above or below the water line for the tank?)
In terms of function, I don't think it makes too much of a difference, but I'd recommend below the water line because it will be a lot quieter that way- less splashing :)
@@BetterBetta Thanks!
I’m gonna get this tomorrow i can’t wait
I hope you're able to see this a year later, but what model heater are you using?
I use the Topfin betta aquarium heater! It’s my favourite heater, works better than some name brand ones I’ve used 😊
Diggin' the new tank! Just wondering though, is there enough room to hide the heater inside one of the filtration compartments? Maybe where the water pump sits?
Yep, in fact I moved it over there shortly after once I thought of it haha. It certainly looks nice all hidden and keeps the cord out of the way
Hey! Uh how important is the spout? Mine didn’t come with that and it just has the tube and pump and I’m just wondering if it’s really necessary

Nice job! Thanks!
Great video, thanks for sharing 👍🏾
You can put the heater in the back sump area to hide it!! Just a pointer
I ended up doing that! You'd think after struggling with trying to find where the cord was supposed to go as there was no cutout in the lid, that this would have clicked before it was commented, but alas, no.
