- Welcome to "In the Zone", the educational elk hunting video series from Elk101, presented by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation! In this series, 11-time World Elk Calling Champion, Corey Jacobsen, breaks down real elk calling scenarios, and details what tactics and strategies were used - as well as what could have been used - to maximize elk calling success.
In this Episode (Episode 5), Corey dives into the details that resulted in a filled elk tag for Donnie Drake on an opening day, OTC hunt in Idaho. Corey and Donnie have located a bugling bull on opening morning, but they're having some troubles getting the bull to come in to their setup. However, by taking advantage of the changing thermals, and less than desirable terrain, they are able to bring the bull right up the ridge for a perfect shot!
See how patience, and utilizing terrain and thermals, can make early season elk hunting exciting and successful!
If you've ever wanted a play-by-play breakdown of actual elk calling setups to help you become a more successful elk caller, "In the Zone" by Elk101.com is the series you've been waiting for!

The more I watch the more education I get
Love the map and details of the moves, their timing, and your calling strategy so well broken down.
WOW the Grizzly Adams look!
Really enjoying these "In the Zone" videos! Definitely going to practicing some of these tips this fall! Keep it up!
Donnie ( Stud Duck) Drake does it again. Great shot on a great bull Donnie. Great excitement. Great cow calling Corey, most people don’t realize how effective good cow calling is. Most people bugle too much and cow talk too little. Congratulations.👍👍👍
Great insight and knowledge that can be applied this season in a few weeks. Thanks for making the effort to show all sides of the hunt game.
Thanks for the detailed insight! Looking forward to applying this in the coming weeks.
Got my first bull last year using this and other tactics I learned through UEH. Pretty excited for this year! Thanks for these videos guys, you make a real difference to our success!

Holy beard there Cory! Almost didn’t recognize you there😂😂
Did 65yr old Cory Jacobsen time travel back to 2020?.? Rock on!
Funny thing but I was actually driving along today thinking of going back and watching this hunt again before the season...now I get the full break down :)
Even though we don't have elk in Australia your videos are really helpful and interesting
Always Love seeing Donnie's reaction/emotion when he shoots a Bull! Almost Love it as much as His "Dad Jokes"!🤣
Man, looks like the Rona got you and it grew moss on your face!!! HAHAHAHA
Although I've never been elk hunting I enjoying watching yalls videos a lot. Hopefully in the year of 2021 I'll get drawn to go give it a try.
Good stuff-
Me and me dad really like this video
Between you and Randy y'all made me want to pick bow hunting back up!!
Dude Cory looking very rustic my brother. I'm.feeling that too! Lol kids think the beard it awesome. Thanks for sharing this hard work u put in man. Stay safe and God bless u guys. And God bless America!
Sweet! Looked like it hit him in front of the shoulder as it seemed he was quartering to a bit!? Nice bull!
Sick beard !!!!!
Going for a Majestic look with the beard to match the majestic animals we love to chase? Love it beards are supposed to help you look younger longer mines not going anywhere if that's the case!
nice bull!.....sweet beard!
Love the info, map of set ups, etc. I have always hunted alone. I find it hard, if not impossible to draw one in the last 50+ yds. I’ve called in a lot of bulls. Just not within bow range. Over 30 years I have never filled my elk tag. Lots of deer...no elk. It’s nice to see others be successful though.
solo you need to use the slow play some and learn how and where to move after calling to make the set up
I have the same issue.. solo hunter.. finally have some buddy's coming out this year to drop back and call for me.. hopefully that is the game changer.
@Shawn Line it's hard to do solo calling in Corey's style give the Elk nut a look on RUclips his strategies have been gold for me when going solo !
Grizzly Adams. I like it.
Opening day can’t get here fast enough, and we have to wait until Sept 5 in MT this year.
nice bull
Good Job Gentlemen on a Great Bull
Santa sounds like CJ!
Did the fact that it was early season help Donnie’s bull come in? I once cow-called a younger bull away from several cows during the first week of September. I could see him start to get excited from my cow calls, which included some spirited estrous mews, and attempt to engage with the cows. But, that just resulted in them scooting off and leaving him standing there in a cloud of dust. Dejected, he came over on a string to my continued calling.
What is that hook on the side of your pack that you use to carry your bow?
Corey starting to morph into Gandalph the great
Nice Beard! 🤙✅
I want to see a video where you have a bull screaming, and you and someone else (probably Dirk), go on each side of the elk and see who calls it in 😂 provided you have a good wind
Give me some tips on the best mouth calls to use.
Keep that beard 👍🏻
На какое расстояние уходит зверь после попадания?
Is that beard camo 😁
