  • In this Episode of Elk101.com's "Vintage Hunts", travel back to 2006 with Corey Jacobsen and David Burdette as they chase bugling bulls in Corey's home state of Idaho.
    2006 was a tough year for elk hunting in Idaho due to forest fires. However, even with the limited areas to hunt due to forest and road restrictions, Corey and David were able to find a huge bull elk early in the season. The bull was bugling from his bedding area on a ridge that was enveloped in thick smoke.
    After some coaxing from Corey, the bull made his way down the hill and into the setup for an opportunity of a lifetime for David...

    This hunt resonates a lot with me, Corey. Growing up in North Idaho and bow hunting a lot of the similar areas it appears you were in, that country is unforgiving. It is not like Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana, or many of those states that have limited underbrush. These northern Idaho hunt have a lot of underbrush, steep, old mountain logging roads. Hunting, let alone packing, is an experience in an of itself. I think you could do an entire series just on Idaho hunting tactics, it is a world different than other states.

      I actually hunt Montana almost every year on a big game combo. I am however not hunting in the thick and rocky areas. If you have hunted N. Idaho where I grew up and now live, there is a huge difference regardless, unless you’re hunting NW MT.

      You will apsolutly hate it. It's really hot, dusty, dry . Elk herds population is really little to none . Most zones only give out 10 tags . So they are hard to draw. It gets really cold during the winter and Jobs are few and far between. Now Oregon on the other hand lots of elk huge zones for over the counter elk hunts where elk actually live .

    Idaho needs wolf hunters! Wolves have become so overpopulated in Idaho that they've started completely wiping out elk herds all across the state. Buy a couple wolf tags and help out because we need your help. We have a serious wolf issue.

    • @Ace-oz9uy
      @Ace-oz9uy 5 лет назад +4

      You're right! I live in Idaho and elk and deer hunting isn't 1/4 of what it was before they reintroduced wolves around 20 years ago. Wolves have become so overpopulated in the area that I live that they have chased huge elk herds into the city and they've cause serious damage to fences and telephone poles. We need more people to help us out and shoot the dang wolves.

    • @Ace-oz9uy
      @Ace-oz9uy 5 лет назад +4

      Brandon Pitchers wolf hunting 2018 video is what I wish everyone could do at least once in their lifetimes to try and reduce the wolf population in Idaho and help out the elk and deer populations.

    • @crewclark1482
      @crewclark1482 5 лет назад +2

      @@Ace-oz9uy Lots of people don't realize how many more elk and deer there used to be before they reintroduced wolves. I live in Idaho too and the number of cattle being killed by wolves is at an all time high. A wolf was shot ten minutes from my house a couple days ago. Ranchers are getting pretty fired up at the wolves around here, we just need help to try and get their crazy population down.

      Yes I hunted bulls pre wolf days an the number of bulls we messed with would blow your mind compared to now..with that said I feel that the elk now are better suited to survive wolves in a whole..just now they are genetically programmed for them..but I still hate them so s.s.s. every one
